I just got a fundraising email from John Tester’s campaign. Senators Baucus and Testor inviting me to a $50/head barbecue near Helena on August 8. Now Tester does some things that make me crazy, but overall, I love the guy and will give him money (again!) How many people can we organize to show up and pay $50 to publicly and pointedly tell Max – at a fundraiser he is hosting, and we pay to get into, – that the overwhelming majority of Americans that want a public option do not believe that public policy that preserves the insurance industries monopoly is in the interests of the country?
I have heard some discussion of mass number rallies for health care, but this seems to me to be one of those situations where modest numbers would, in the news coverage of the day, be huge! If 1000 progressives showed up, and others donated in a recognizable way, it would be a spectacular way to send Jon love while simultaneously smacking Max upside the head…
Anyone up for this?
I have since learned the event is at Max’s ranch.
I think there are many among us feeling the urgency of the times, and angry enough with Baucus to spend the weekend on a charter bus in order to give $50 to Jon Tester, shake his hand and say "Pleased to meet you Senator Tester, but if you’ll excuse me, I need to have a word with our host…"
If Marcy, Jane, Mike Stark, or Eve or Slinkerwink, or others chose to attend and called for mass numbers to show, we get the news cycle proportionate to how many people show. One busload of activists makes a significant national story. 50 buses, 2500 pairs of boot on the ground would likely dominate the news that weekend. 1000 buses, 50,000 people and you have the most newsworthy public event of the season…
This is doable as a weekend charter bus trip from most of the West Coast and Mountain West. I ask that the FDL and Kos notables comment, or better yet, steal my idea.
This is a war, and the other side just invited us to conduct operations on their front lawn. I think this idea is worth the effort up to at least at the level where it gives us dominance in coverage over the weekend.
I’m in $50 for Tester and $100 to defray travel costs for whatever name blogger steps up.

Is there a “progressive montana” blog out there somewhere? You need to broadcast this idea in front of angry constituents – he is not up for reelection until 2014. Right now he could give a rat’s ass what you say about/to him. It’s the sad truth that makes me so angry I wanna spit.
I wish I could go and throw a pie in his face. I hope you get busloads.
I’m not hoping to influence Baucus’ vote, this is proposed as a tactical move to win the weekend news cycle.
Left in the West is a progressive Montana blog.

I am so up for this. I am hoping to organize a group to drive there.
Please go to the kos and flog this now!

Million man march on Max’s front lawn?
I’d say that might just get the job done.
How much you want to bet that Baucus finds some reason that the event has to move when he gets wind of this?
Well, he’ll prolly just have you arrested like he did those doctors, but I say, go for it!
Baucus and his cronies are trying to hood-wink all of us. Their “reform” will break this nation, restrict access to medical care, create two levels of care (the haves and have-nots), and cost this nation thousands of jobs.
We have already seen 20,000 medical sales jobs lost in anticipation of Obamacare. The medical device sales industry and pharmaceutical sales industry are hunkering down and laying-off scores of medical sales reps as they prepare for life after Obamacare.
There is no free ticket on Wall Street! The American people should wake-up to this fiasco of free health carebefore Obama ruins this nation!
