Sorry the peg for this is old news, but it concerns an ongoing phenomenon. Why do 80% of “Democrats and independents who lean Democratic” want Barack Obama re-nominated as the Democratic Party 2012 presidential candidate?

CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll. Jan. 21-23, 2011. N=441 Democrats and independents who lean Democratic nationwide. Margin of error ± 4.5.

“Do you think the Democratic Party should renominate Barack Obama as the party’s candidate for president in 2012, or do you think the Democratic Party should nominate a different candidate for president in 2012?”

Jan. 21-23, 2011
Renominate Obama 78%
Nominate a different candidate 20%
Unsure 1

(The results have been very consistent going back a year.)

Don’t very many Democrats and lean-Democratic independents consider themselves progressives, social democrats, and liberals? Is the best they think we can do a ‘market fundamentalist’ Wall Street Democrat who pushes the bipartisan center further right than even Ronald Reagan would be comfortable with? Is the best progressives and liberals can do a Democratic Party President who thinks fighting the deficit is a higher priority than creating jobs during a 9% Great Recession? We’re going to accept that without even the quietest of ‘no’s?

The above polling result represents, in small part (I’m sure the main thing is the pro-mainstream, pro-Wall-Street censorship in the mainstream media), a failure of the progressive blog-o-sphere. Or maybe it is a success, if you consider “progressive blogosphere” b.s. and in fact a Democratic Party plant.
