A while back, when the Edwards trial was grinding to its conclusion, I posted several articles around the web expressing my feeling that John Edwards was the only canidate in 2008 who even remotely represented the interests of the 99%. His theme of “Two Americas”, in my opinion, was the predecessor to the Occupy movement.
I also said I felt he had been intentionally destroyed, though I couldn’t quite put a finger on who or how.
The potential answer had been staring me in the face the entire time, but because the connection was NEVER EVER pointed out by the media or bloggers, (at least that I’m aware of) I never made the connection. That changed last night in one of my wee hours excursions through the backwaters of the blogosphere.

Sometimes I get bit by the conspiracy bug and my mind wanders into strange territory. Today, it occurred to me that Rielle Hunter’s meet-up with John Edwards was not entirely coincidence or an accident. Consider two names in their sordid (or romantic, if you prefer) history: Richard “Dicky” Mellon Scaife and Rachel “Bunny” Mellon. Those Mellons are related by marriage, though their politics are as far apart as the John Birch Society and the Daily Kos.
Here’s how it may have gone down. When he was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bunny Mellon took a liking to John “Johnny” Edwards. He reminded her of John Kennedy. Money flowed from Bunny to Johnny. Dicky Scaife, always alert to his cousin’s political activities, heard about Bunny’s largesse and realized that Bunny could tip the scales in Johnny’s favor. Though Dicky and Bunny shared a dislike of Hillary Clinton, Dicky was determined to bring down the Democrat most likely to beat a Republican, as it appeared Johnny could do at that time.” – D.M. Of course. Richard Mellon Scaife was Bunny Mellons Cousin. Scaifes right wing nuttery had been a source of conflict within the family for quite some time, when he got wind of Bunnys funding of John Edwards, he must have hit the roof. This was a canidate who represented a real threat to the interests of the 1%. No wonder he endorsed Hillary.
No big suprise no one in the press or blogosphere brought Scaifes name up. Doing so can perhaps be hazardous to ones health. Such as one Steve Kangas…

On Feb 8, 1999 at 11:30 PM Steve Kangas was found lying on the restroom floor of One Oxford Center, Pittsburgh in a semi conscious state by electrician, Don Adams. Adams reported blood on the floor around the spot and left to call for help. Upon returning they found Steve sitting on the toilet slumped over covered in blood, the victim of an apparent suicide. On Feb 12 the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette broke the news in a terse 46 word article that police had ruled the death a suicide. The theorys I am writing about are no more than that… but, if they are ever proven at some later date, we can once again thank this billionaire right wing whack job for using his money and influence to destroy the middle class and the hopes of the American people, making sure instead that the interests of the 1% are protected and that we end up with a corporate puppet for President instead of a champion of the people. Everything this man touches, unlike Midas, turns to shit.

Theories like this are hard to prove however that does not mean they should be ignored. If you are a Lefty Dem you cannot cheat, be corrupt etc only GOPers and fake Dems get a pass on ethics.

Steve Kangas was a liberal blogger when the internet was new, when it took overnight to download a photo. He led the way far ahead of his time for Blogs like Firedoglake. If you look at his mirror memorial sites, you will be blown away by his mind. When the web was a newborn, the right was justifiably terrified by the social networking possibilities of this new technology they couldn’t control. Steve lived in Arizona. He was found shot to death 60 feet from Schaifes office door in Pittsburgh.
Interesting. Thanks for your research. Cannot be proved at this point, of course, but I have pondered the connection bet Bunny Mellon & her cousin Dicky Scaife vis John Edwards.
I like to read Vanity Fair, which tends to be lightweight, but still can give some insights into the backgrounds and connections amongst the 1%ers.
I have also wondered who set up Rielle Hunter to be “available” to John Edwards. I assume the Hunter must’ve been Edwards’ “type” (as in: someone he would likely be attracted to), plus everyone knew Edwards was under pressure and possibly feeling frustrated bc of his wife’s cancer, etc. It was an easy honey trap to set.
We all know that Lucinne Goldberg set up Monica Lewinsky to entrap Horn Dog Clinton. That was an easy honey trap. I can imagine that Edwards presented a bigger challenge.
Well, keep us posted. I didn’t know anything much about Steve Kangas, but that’s, uh, also quite interesting. Certainly the 1% will stop at nothing to stay in power and keep raking in money. So murder is definitely not off the table for them, and they know that they can get away with it.

I think Spitzer chose to visit prostitutes of his own volition – in other words, he wasn’t “tricked” (ha!) into it. But I think his “secret” was discovered, and then the PTB conspired to have him busted. JMHO, of course. Now Spitzer, like HornDog Willie, has been rehabbed and put back into a good-paying job. What did he have to “promise” to keep the Benjamen’s flowing??
And did Edwards *refuse* to “capitulate” like Spitzer & Clinton… and refuse to play on the “dark side”?? And is that why Edwards was busted and had a trial?? I often wonder.
Edwards’s ‘Two Americas’ was the main feature of his 2004 campaign. Apparently it didn’t threaten anyone enough to prevent his being the VP on the Dem ticket. The Kerry-Edwards ticket got more popular votes than any other ticket in US history, except for Bush-Cheney in 2004. Maybe more than Bush-Cheney got, but who’s counting? Diebold? Ohio’s Secretary of State?
In 2008 Edwards changed his stump speeches, no longer arguing in the abstract about the Two Americas. Instead he focussed on Congress and the inextricable influence of lobbyists for the big corporations. And he named names, as if he were presenting evidence at a trial.
At that point in his campaign he was desperate for funds and needed to win or place second in the South Carolina primary, where he was a Favorite Son. He showed third, unable to penetrate enough of the voter consciousness that had been distracted by the Obama campaign’s charging Bill Clinton of playing the race card there. Sic transit gloria stonewashed jeans.
Speaking of South Carolina and who gets a pass for unsafe sex, Strom Thurmond’s ‘mixed-race’ daughter never got found out until he was worm food.
They probably would have brought down FDR, JFK, and LBJ if they had DNA testing.
It has occurred to me that Obama too may have been compromised, and the PTB may be blackmailing him with information that, if revealed, would induce Michelle to perform the Bobbit procedure on him. She is certainly someone that I’d not want angry at me.
Not sure about a conspiracy; I feel that Edwards, who is no political dummy, should have been able to keep his pants on, considering what was at stake, but early in the campaign, I sat in a small union hall in Georgetown, S.C. and heard him say that his first week in office he would begin closing the prison at Gitmo.
He also pointed out that Hillary Clinton wanted to keep the giant hmo’s IN the health-care equation, while he wanted them completely out of it.
Both of those statements were music to my ears, and his bad judgement in getting into an extra-marital affair was a real blow to the progressive cause.
Considering how risk-averse is Obama, and how limpid and feeble his committment to any real reform, Edwards’ innate combativeness on behalf of poor and working-class americans shines like a beacon of what might have been.
thanks for posting. Hunter was possibly the inspiration for the “Dharma and Greg” t.v. show. She did have big Hollywood connections. A “free spirit” would probably have tremendous appeal to a man like Edwards, till the mask came off and it turned into a nightmare.

Maybe it ain’t over yet. So many blue dog “democrats” took the opportunity to howl over Edwards sins. What they were really scared of, imo, is Edwards surviving as a political threat in 2016. Could you see Edwards running as an independant progressive with labor and the Occupy movement getting behind him, as a rebuttal to the democrats abandoning their principles? Couldn’t happen? Wonder how pissed labor is at the DNC slapping them in the face by holding the convention in a scab city and state. It could be a king hell breakthrough for progressives, if they could pull it off without having it monkeywrenched by Scaife and his ilk,
