I know it’s early, and the votes for all the districts on the East coast are not even in, but I feel fairly confident in making this prediction. As a matter of fact, I probably could have predicted the outcome when Obama entered the White House and immediately severed ties with his supporters.
You see, a leader doesn’t sever ties with his base, and not expect there to be consequences. Unfortunately, our President has seemed oblivious to this fact. Apparantly he is oblivious to any obligation he has to initiate, much less maintain contact with, the people he needs to have input from while in office. Perhaps he has felt that he could run the country unaided, and now unappreciated by those around him?
It is said about our President that he is a solitary man, someone who doesn’t send a thank you note or acknowledge when something nice has been done for him. He is described as cold, aloof, withdrawn and without confidants. Could have fooled all of us when he was running in 2007. What happened to that man?
One thing, is that he takes offense at being questioned, and now he has a record about which most of us want answers. It obviously differs greatly from the promises on which he ran. Rather than address those issues, our leader has retreated into solitude. He has refused any unscripted interviews, including White House press briefings. His speeches are platitudes that don’t answer the pressing issues that exist today, nor do they address the disappointments of some of his own initiatives.
He continues to make controversial and unpopular decisions in the months leading up to this election, almost as if he is hoping not to be re-elected. Why else would he sign the increasingly restrictive Patriot’s Act? Why is he stubbornly pursuing the War on Drugs when our economy so obviously needs money spent elsewhere? Why hasn’t he pursued prosecuting Wall Street; probably the most popular acttion he could take today without congressional approval? What paranoia has him cracking down on whistle blowers in his own administration?
There have been other Presidential candidates who have shot themselves in the foot before an election, John Edwards and Gary Hart as Democrats immediately come to mind. I’m sure there have been at least that many, if not more Republicans. Why they don’t step aside before going up in flames is always an interesting question. Why Obama didn’t step aside when the party still had time to select a candidate who actually wanted to hold office is now a question for history. I doubt we will ever get an answer from him.
My prediction? Oh, I thought you would have figured it out, by now. Obama is going down. Unfortunately Citizens United will cement the deal; the lies will be flagrant, and the undecided, uninformed middle class will doom Obama. As he put it in 2010, he will be “spanked”.
