Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope?
Any hope of subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering.
No-one is fierce enough to rouse him. Who then is able to stand against me?
Who dares open the doors of his mouth, ringed about with his fearsome teeth?
His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn.
Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.
Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from his mouth.
When he rises up, the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing.
The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.
Iron he treats like straw and bronze like rotten wood.
Arrows do not make him flee, sling stones are like chaff to him.
A club seems to him but a piece of straw, he laughs at the rattling of the lance.
He makes the depths churn like a boiling cauldron…
Nothing on earth is his equal — a creature without fear.
- from Job 41 (Hebrew Bible)
The leviathan, indomitable gatekeeper of Hell, is no longer a mythical creature. It was spawned, nurtured and unleashed upon the world by that most pious and “exceptional” people known as Americans.
The unvarnished history of America is one of supreme cruelty and violence; but never more so than in the current era. After smiting our last leader who thought to constrain it, John Kennedy, the leviathan has slithered from one concocted war to another — leaving millions of dead in its wake.
A monster such as this knows no allegiance, so the American people themselves have felt its wrath many times — most poignantly from the inside job of 9/11. Yet they still bow to the creature and defend its non-existent honor.
How does something so impossibly vile as this American leviathan get conjured into being? The answer requires an understanding of leverage as employed by the ruling elite, who by themselves are nothing special at all.
In writing this post I’m leveraging many things — the internet, the electrical grid, the personal computer, this host site, etcetera. But in politics, we find the powerful get that way by leveraging the weaknesses and worst traits of the population.
Greed, hypocrisy, fear, ignorance and most of all religiosity have all been leveraged to produce the American leviathan. This monster, which controls unprecedented weapons of mass destruction, cannot be defeated. It would sooner annihilate the entire world including itself.
Our only chance, an extremely remote one, is for Americans to eschew all those traits which are the levers of sinister power — greed, hypocrisy, fear, ignorance and most of all religiosity.
