The definition of espionage is
Espionage or spying involves a government or individual obtaining information that is considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information
From what I now understand it could be argued that FISA, intended to stop espoinage, actually enables the Government to commit it against its own people, as the Government can now secretly monitor private communications without a probable cause warrant.
Even the most cursory look at America’s Bill of Rights shows it primarily exists to protect the citizens from the government and not the “evil doers”, yet the citizens appear to remain powerless to prevent their government from destroying their rights one by one. This seems remarkable.
We are not allowed to know interpretations of various parts if this act, because it is secret. We are also not allowed to know who and how many people (including US citizens) are affected by this act, because that is also secret. The sad irony is that its the ONLY people’s privacy and secrets that are compromised.
It was pushed through (with incredibly little attention from the media) at the last minute, while the mainstream media and people’s heads were turned, looking at the well marketed issue of the Fiscal Cliff. This limited the ability for review and in doing so, well watch this video…
President Obama’s statement when signing this act includes the following:
Even though I support the vast majority of the provisions contained in this Act, which is comprised of hundreds of sections spanning more than 680 pages of text, I do not agree with them all.
Surely, if the President disagreed with a SINGLE WORD of this act he should have refused to sign it as he is supposed to represent the people first?

What, and ruin his flawless record at being a disingenuous hypocrite?
He broke his word over FISA after securing the nomination and never looked back.
Why do we have FISA?
The short version – because it is all One Big Money Party, and there is a lot of money in companies that were devised and incorporated totally in order to perform “security services” such as wire taps, et al. And soon to come – spy drones over all of us! A lot of money in those, so they won’t be stopped.
The long version: It happened because an event that was carefully orchestrated, and that 67% of all NYC residents now feel was totally either MIHOP or LIHOP, occurred.
It happened because after that event, known as Nine Eleven, the members of Congress wanted to be seen as brave and patriotic, so they voted in the Iraq War Resolution, predicated on the fact that Iraqis, who actually had noting to do with any of this, might have once allowed for some terrorist or another to be trained on their soil. (To my way of thinking, this would be like the military bombing the NY town where Tim McVeigh grew up, bombing it into total obliteration, because after all, the town had supported him while he was growing up.)
These same Congress people voted for the Patriot Act. Overwhelmingly, Congress has also approved any and all sections of various pieces of legislation, including updates to the Patriot Act, that come up for a vote.
And now almost no one in the Democratic Party, which is always perceived as being weak on defense, can come out and object to the Corollaries of the New Terrorist Doctrine, although some Republican Congress people are opposed to the practices that are descending upon us. (I know of at least one Republican Congress woman who is trying to bring TSA down into line with various principles of behavior, for instance, that TSA stop hiring people who have prior arrests for thievery, pedophilia, et al.)
Some corollaries of the New Anti Terrorist Doctrine:
One) Any activity proposed by any individual in a High Place of office that has to do with the “Safety of the American People” will be receive Congressional Approval. Therefore we have all of the money we need to rebuild our society going instead to items like the TSA, to the various Surveillance programs, and of course to the continual spying necessary to give meaning to the NDAA and its infamous Section 1021, which was approved last fall.
Obama was selected due to his being either outright CIA, or totally willing on every step of his path to power, to acquiesce to those who are CIA. I recently reviewed many his statements that were made between Dec 2007, and May 2008. (Those statements are often found on YOUTube.) He often says, “I don’t really know about all the particular ramifications concerning that particular element of a society, but I will be meeting with exerts I trust who will inform me of the best way to proceed.” (Substitute such things as Medical Marijuana and education reform for the words in the above sentence” that particular element of our society.)

Your reply is an article in itself leaving me wanting to read and understand more. I do believe that a further tragedy of 9/11 is its clumsy response, in that the what has happened since is so many deaths and the destruction if the US constitution, I.e. no output of this event is good, or an improvement, more a sickness and a sad commentary spelled out by a governments foreign policy. So, if from your this is a Cato/Koch point of view, what do you perceive as the purpose behind the video? It is interesting but I am a bit confused as to the goal behind it.
I am getting hints of the producers desiring to limit legislative power and reducing the scope of government and slamming Obama for signing a law that one would think the producers are actually in favor of.
