Establishing a Progressive Caucus in theUnited StatesSenate
In David Dayen’s thread, dated Tuesday, July 17th and titled, “Republicans Block DISCLOSE Act, Dems Pull All Nighter, I had this to say,
I am from the Sonoran Desert, and virtually all “progressives” can be segmented as “racial and ethnics” and consequently, all most all “white” Democrats are “conservative” Democrats since virtually all these “white” Democrats supported SB 1070 and HB 2281.
Thus, we, the “racial and ethnics” recognize that “bitching” in politics falls into two distince categories, the Professional “bitching” and the Amateur “bitching” and the obvious underlying premise is that the Amateurs can’t bring themselves forward for challenging their Democratic-affiliated Senators for establishing a Progressive Caucus in the Senate.
And since I am from ARizona, and the two Senators are Republicans, my fellow Progressives, have intellectually imploded due to this Amateur-standing, and therefore, I have to rely on the Professionals, if in fact, they have called the offices of their Democratic-affiliated Senators and advocated that their respective Senators “establish” a Progressive Caucus in the Senate.
In closing, when I come to this political blog, my ‘reading/listening’ to what is being said and written, my yardstick jumps up and measures the ‘bitching’ as being appropriately categorized. As such, if you haven’t advocated for the establishment of a Progessives Caucus, in any manner, shape or form, the “viability” for what is being said or listened to, remains at in the numerical arena for a Fat Zero, nonetheless, since there is nothing “there.”
_________
Now, let’s get this “debate” underway and where your “ideas” gain a predominance and ultimately, addressed in Congress and at the White House.

Jaango–
Hate to put a damper on your suggestion that the Senate establish a progressive caucus; but it’s not likely to happen, any time soon.
I was hopeful that Elizabeth Warren might make a difference (if elected), until I saw this piece in National Journal:

I’m under no illusion, now, that if she were to get elected, she would be given the “Al Franken treatment”–silenced before she even got sworn into office.
Idealism is admirable, when tempered with a dose of realism. Good luck.
Mad As Hell
Who the heck would join it?
Besides the good Sen. Sanders, and hopefully Sen. Warren.
Does anybody remember Senator Patrick Leahy’s Truth Commission? He started a commission to look into the wrongdoings of the Bush Administration in Feb. 2009, and it was dead by April, 2009.
President Obama wished it away, although “candidate” Obama had stated that appointing a special prosecutor was at the top of his list when he took office. His supporters are “looking forward, not backward”, just as he prefers, along with the CIA, the neocons, and everyone else who has something to hide.
Is this sufficient enough reply?

Sadly, as pointed out above in comments, it only takes ONE plane ride on AF1 with a president to flop one’s moral and political standing and allegiance.
Kuch, Sanders, and more including Grijalva (of the so called House Proggy Caucus) have all caved on issue after issue since Obama was erected.
The Senate does not HAVE these problems, they are all well schooled and disciplined as to whom their allegiance belongs to.
N it ain’t we the people.
Can’t fix this system, it’s bought and paid for, and WILL collapse as all empires do.
Till then, eat, drink and be merry. Help those less fortunate than oneself, and try and effect change for the better in every encounter with every person thruout your day, family or friends or strangers.
It’s insidious, that kind of rebellion. ;-)
Maybe if he took me on that plane ride I would be able to sleep at night. But somehow I doubt it, these people are rotten beyond belief; every time I think about them, I wake up.
First, let me thank of all you for having expressed yourself.
Second, I was called out of town and have since returned late this evening.
And thirdly, generally speaking, I have to agree with what each has said. And yes, even members of the Progressive Caucus in the House, has capitulated to the obvious political pressure brought about by the Oval Office. And that’s understandable.
However, the Progressive Caucus does provide a political vehicle that is available to address “ideas” that may or may not have the requisite gravitas. In contrast, with no Progressive Caucus in the Senate, Progressives have no access to a “platform” that can be utilized to “weigh” the gravitas of the many issues that we have a particular concern for. Without this “platform” the “conservative” Democrats will continue to rule the day, when left unchallenged. As such, “walking away” from crafting this presumptive “challenge” that is facing the “conservative” Democrats, is not in me.
