The Young Turks do a fine job of analyzing the right’s assault on PP. That this is not satire is almost scary. That it is an acceptable policy position to many republicans is indicative of why they are seeing a huge ” membership ” drop- headed for the teens and rightly so.

Oh my.
… and the problem with sex is that it leads to dancing.
This has been going on for years. My rightwing sister totally *blamed* PP for her daughter getting pregnant in her teens.
It’s a very long & sad story as to why my niece had unprotected sex when she was 17 years old. It mainly had to do with the bitter, vitriolic & horrible divorce of her parents, plus my sister’s subsequent behavior (which I will not describe, but believe me, it was very very bad for her kids).
My sister didn’t and doesn’t wish to accept responsibility for many of her actions and her anger management issues. Far easier to blame faceless PP, when her rightwing preachers tell her it’s “ok” to do that.
According to my siser, it’s bc PP had sex education classes that my niece felt “empowered” to have sex. What a load of hooie.
I would imagine that this kind of displacement of responsibility goes on in a lot of households. Far easier to blame some outside entity that your church says is “evil,” than to look at yourself and how you are behaving and raising your kids.
That’s been my take for a long time bc I know of other similar stories from friends of mine. It’s pretty pathetic, as this kind of attitude does nothing to really address internal family issues and problems.
