Sarah Palin’s book bus tour started yesterday and the spin around it is furious. John McCain was obligated to respond to charges Palin levels in the book:
McCain, in a telephone interview with Reuters, singled out campaign manager Steve Schmidt and senior adviser Nicolle Wallace for praise after Palin blasted the pair in her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."
"There’s been a lot of dust flying around in the last few days and I just wanted to mention that I have the highest regard for Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace and the rest of the team … and I appreciated all the hard work and everything they did to help the campaign," he said.
"I think it’s just time to move on," he said.
Fox News (sic) was true to form, and attacked AP for daring to run a fact check on the book, using the headline "AP Turns Heads for Devoting 11 Reporters to Palin Book ‘Fact Check’":
When the former Republican vice presidential candidate and former Alaska governor wrote her autobiography, the AP found a copy before its release date and assigned 11 people to fact check all 432 pages.
The act of coining a headline and three opening paragraphs was so tiring that Fox then had to turn the writing over to Palin’s Facebook ghostwriter:
Palin quickly hit back on a Facebook post titled "Really? Still Making Things Up?"
"Imagine that," the post read. "11 AP reporters dedicating time and resources to tearing up the book, instead of using the time and resources to ‘fact check’ what’s going on with Sheik Mohammed’s trial, Pelosi’s health care takeover costs, Hasan’s associations, etc. Amazing."
So, just one day into the tour, we have McCain defending his campaign staff, AP checking the facts and Fox attacking AP for daring to check ghostwritten material by quoting more ghostwriting for Palin.
Last week, folks on Twitter had some fun coming up with names for the Palin tour bus. The hashtag used was #namesofpalinsbus for those who want to go back and have a few giggles. By far, the most popular entry came from Shoq, who offered "Driving Miss Crazy". Fortunately, we don’t have to speculate about the conditions inside the bus. Here is exclusive undercover footage:

“Driving Miss Crazy” So perfect.
POP “every time Sarah speaks we all feel smarter” I can’t remember whether it was a fellow over at Crooks and Liars or FDL that said “hello guys Sarah is not going to have sex with you”
This is some of the worst sexism I have seen in quite a while. Let’s be honest if the words that come out of Sarah’s mouth came out of less attractive woman they would have been yanked from the national stage immediately after they opened their mouths.
Probably. Palin’s a pop star who made her way in politics for awhile. She happened to be in AK at the right time; of course her ambition and energy helped propel her.
Sexism has probably kept her down to a certain extent. Looks are important for all stars, even Boyle. Yet Palin was a state governor, so she was able to work her way up. Compared with other fields there are many women in politics – not enough, but the number is growing.
She’s easy to pick on because she continues to show absolutely no substance in any of her work. She’s a non-stop talking point (Stewart).
Thanks, Jim! I missed the naming contest at Twitter, but I can easily believe that Shoq came up with “Driving Miss Crazy.”
Some how, I never saw this particular movie, but you’ve chosen a hilarious, and very appropriate clip.
Maybe some FDLers will do their own fact check. I just hope they read Palin’s book in the book store and do not spend any money on it.
The whole brouhaha about the book “almost” makes me feel sorry for McCain, but not quite.

Let’s hope the Republican Presidential 2012 ticket has Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck running. They can call their bus tour “Driving Mrs. and Mr. Crazy”
I can’t believe the depth and breadth of coverage (check the number of Paln articles at memeorandom, for exampe) of something that has neither depth, nor breadth (Palin).
I will agree to this extent with FOX–it is amazing to me how much ink gets spilled about Palin.

YA! Think mister Beck would want second billing?
We probably have at least 20 million more qualified woman in the country, why has this one came to so much flap?
It’s cuz the male members of the legacy media, as well as a few reps in the GOP, think she’s a babe. That’s it. Wrong brain engaged.
Alright, I’ll do it myself and point out the significance of the hair on fire aspect of the clip I chose…
Although I didn’t mention it, Jim, I really did love the hair on fire bit of the clip. Reminded me of George Tenet. No, wait! Do I mean Richard Clark? One of those two described himself as running around DC with his hair on fire.
I’d forgotten that one:
Thanks for clarifying that one, Jim. They were both in involved in that quote.
