Stanley McChrystal: Pimp Connection Between Cheney and Blackwater
Jeremy Scahill blows the lid off "Blackwater’s Secret War in Pakistan" in an article just published in The Nation. This story brings together an amazing array of bad actors: Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Stanley McChrystal and Blackwater. It should come as no surprise, then, that the outcome of this team working together is a jaw-dropping tale of war crimes that continue to be carried out.
The entire story should be read, but since I have written a number of diaries on Stanley McChrystal and why he should be facing a war crimes tribunal rather than commanding US forces in Afghanistan, I will excerpt two paragraphs where he plays a central role:
While JSOC has long played a central role in US counterterrorism and covert operations, military and civilian officials who worked at the Defense and State Departments during the Bush administration described in interviews with The Nation an extremely cozy relationship that developed between the executive branch (primarily through Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld) and JSOC. During the Bush era, Special Forces turned into a virtual stand-alone operation that acted outside the military chain of command and in direct coordination with the White House. Throughout the Bush years, it was largely General McChrystal who ran JSOC. "What I was seeing was the development of what I would later see in Iraq and Afghanistan, where Special Operations forces would operate in both theaters without the conventional commander even knowing what they were doing," said Colonel Wilkerson. "That’s dangerous, that’s very dangerous. You have all kinds of mess when you don’t tell the theater commander what you’re doing."
Wilkerson said that almost immediately after assuming his role at the State Department under Colin Powell, he saw JSOC being politicized and developing a close relationship with the executive branch. He saw this begin, he said, after his first Delta Force briefing at Fort Bragg. "I think Cheney and Rumsfeld went directly into JSOC. I think they went into JSOC at times, perhaps most frequently, without the SOCOM [Special Operations] commander at the time even knowing it. The receptivity in JSOC was quite good," says Wilkerson. "I think Cheney was actually giving McChrystal instructions, and McChrystal was asking him for instructions." He said the relationship between JSOC and Cheney and Rumsfeld "built up initially because Rumsfeld didn’t get the responsiveness. He didn’t get the can-do kind of attitude out of the SOCOM commander, and so as Rumsfeld was wont to do, he cut him out and went straight to the horse’s mouth. At that point you had JSOC operating as an extension of the [administration] doing things the executive branch–read: Cheney and Rumsfeld–wanted it to do. This would be more or less carte blanche. You need to do it, do it. It was very alarming for me as a conventional soldier."
Tomorrow, I will be calling the office of the Senate Armed Services Committee to request that Senator Carl Levin, as chair, convene hearings immediately to look into the evidence Scahill has presented.

thanks jim. according to dn!’s tweet, scahill is supposed to be on democracy now! tomorrow morning to discuss this.
Thanks for the heads up. This needs lots of attention as Obama is finishing his Afghanistan policy.
amen. might be a good youtube from dn! tomorrow you can use for a follow up post (should you desire to do so).
The title is kind of sensationalistic. Blackwater has been there for a while. We are building a superbase there too.
From Seymour Hersh, July 7, 2008:

Civilian women, children, and old people in those targeted houses – not so much.
Read the whole article. Scahill shows hows the Blackwater program is not the CIA program that was previously known. This was set up to circumvent Congressional oversight.
OT..take a look at the date in the first sentence.
that Stanley McChrystal sure has what it takes to be promoted to run the whole Af/Pak theater!
thank goodness Obama is so competent, a President McCain might have sent Bernie Kerik over there, if he was available.
ah yes, we sure love the sweet smell of competence in the morning!
to the families of those incinerated in their homes, it probably smells much as it did under the ignoble Bush/Cheney regime.
He won’t be available for quite awhile. He can’t even walk his kids to school. Maybe his good buddy Giuliani will do that for him.

“Bernard Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner and one-time candidate for Homeland Security chief, was freed from jail Tuesday for the holidays to await sentencing on federal crimes.
Kerik, who pleaded guilty last week to eight felonies, was released on $1.5 million bond by federal Judge Stephen Robinson after the former top cop spent three weeks in jail.
He is expected to receive a prison term of about 2 1/2 years at his sentencing in February for crimes including lying to the White House when he was being considered for the federal security post. ”

McClatchy is telling us this morning that Obama has settled on sending 34,000 additional troops to Afghanistan and that McChrystal could be back in the states as soon as Sunday for the “roll out” of the plan. We need to hit the Congressional offices very hard with phone calls today to insist that McChrystal be fully investigated for his war crimes of intentionally killing civilians and for the breach of military rules in bypassing the normal chain of command in dealing with Cheney. In fact, he needs to be asked point blank if he still is in contact with Cheney…
Very concise, Jim.
I’m going to have to send new emails to Specter, Casey and Sestak.
Wonder how they’ll respond this time.

This reads like a season of 24. It is sick.
I will join your call. I hope this gets front paged. It would be interesting to see what EW has to make of this article.
Thank you for this post Jim White.
Glenn Greenwald mentions the article in the update to his post this morning. Like you, I look forward to seeing what Marcy has to say.
Sick sick sick. And they tell us we need to stay in Afghanistan otherwise it would destabilize Pakistan.
Recommended. Thanks, Jim. For me this Scahill article scraped the topsoil off the many-tunneled rabbit hole, affording a bird’s eye view of the whole stinking mess and exposing each “compartment” with its own chamber of horrors.
IMO, it is Gates that needs to go; he directs nothing. He is a willing tool and according to Mel Goodman and Ray McGovern who knew and worked with him from his beginning days at CIA, that’s what he has always been. Read their several op-eds at http://www.consortiumnews.com and Ray’s clips on YouTube.
Here is a whole page of articles on Robert Gates at ConsortiumNews.
Here is the specific article by Mel Goodman, On Bended Knee To Bob Gates.
Isn’t the JSOC under the Intel unit set up by Rummy, therefore now under Gates’ non-control? JSOC contracts to Blackwater [whatever their name is today (/s)].
We (taxpayers) give $$$Billions each year to Pakistan, Pak contracts to their “Blackwater” named Kestral Logistics who subcontracts to Blackwater – so the price for these Dirty Deeds is brought right back home.
Did you note the paragraph about Blackwater now helping round up Muslims in Uzbekistan? Former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Craig Murray, has testified in Britain re that dictator’s torture of Muslims, i.e., boiled them alive after other grisly torture. Do we want to be a party to that?
Oh, forgot, it’s o.k. as long as we have plausible deniability…
They are trying to shut his website down, again.

Ever hear of Richard Horn? Goggle his name and see how censored by the State Security Privilege crapo your media is.
Yes, blue. Here is a link to just one story of Richard Horn’s battle with CIA (after 15 years he won). There is a back story of the outcome of the CIA’s peddling the info gleaned from the illegal wiretap to the drug lords in Burma, resulting in many deaths of those providing Horn with info, the addiction of Burma, and Horn’s having to leave Burma (now Mynamar), and the druglords ruling thereafter without hindrance.
Since Laos/Cambodia in the 1960s CIA has been linked to drug trafficking and their employees have enriched themselves. [so, what's Blackwater/CIA flying back out of Afghanistan on those supply runs to our troops?]
Seems the real goal of the CIA is to destroy, not further better conditions in countries all over the world.
Amazing isn’t it? One whole story after a 15 year battle to prove that the CIA didn’t like his attempt to stop their money flow and it’s none of the American people’s business. Just 15 years of court costs and a 3 million dollar settlement that you have been and will pay for. Guns out and drugs in is my guess. Same as Columbia and Mexico; gives a whole new meaning to Free Trade. Needless to say, Sibel is on the SPP story. This is scary stuff. It means that anything the government does not want told could result in a SSP order. Ha..you think MSM is bad now. Here’s another interesting subject that has been world wide on blogs during the past week and not on MSM. So far, no denial from the alleged writers of the e-mails.

blue, I read all I could handle at your last link here for an entirely different reason; the pic looks like an identical twin of one of my nephews by marriage, and shares last name. As for global warming, there’s sure something melting the ice caps and glaciers. I think it’s the directed energy farms shooting holes in the stratosphere. All the hullabaloo about spray cans may have been to divert our attention from that big mastodon in the room.
HAARP/chemtrails..
Yep, sometimes big names desert me, but descriptions seldom do.
Another new book just came: The Conspirators; Secrets of An Iran-Contra Insider, by Al Martin, @ 2001. Excerpt from cover: “Al Martin, a retired US Navy Lt. Commander and former officer in the Office of Naval Intelligence, is America’s foremost whistle-blower on government fraud and corruption. He lives at an undisclosed location, since the criminals named in “The Conspirators” have been returned to national power and prominence.”
This Bill Moyers program from the 80′s about Iran/Contra and the Secret Government is pretty interesting, and on topic:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3505348655137118430&ei=ec4MS-WbLZXdlQf_o82jDg&q=moyers+secret+government#
Yes, Bill, I recommended that video a few days ago on an earlier thread. I think it is probably Bill Moyers’ best.
I forgot to mention that only some glaciers have shrunk. Those that are regaining their ice have a thinner ice, but it is more durable because it is more exposed to the cold. Alarmist cons like Gore leave the impression they are all disappearing forever; not true. We just went through a period of almost no sun spots. That has an unknown effect on the weather..ie..it never happened before. In Gore’s film he used a computer animation from a movie to show glacier collapse. He did not tell anyone that it was fake. The UK court ruled that 10 things in his video were incorrect. Scientists with morals around the world are screaming that global warming is a scam. Remember hearing that the end of 2008 would be the lowest sea ice in history? It didn’t happen, but that fact didn’t make the news.
I’ve never believed in global warming. ‘Tis a con; one more tax on the world. Here’s an example. Now that the scam was revealed via those e-mails, the fear factor gets ratcheted up. This Hawaii testing center is sounding the alarm..the co2 is rising..the co2 is rising. Ha..what they do not mention is that the testing site is sitting on top of a volcano that has been in active eruption for 20 years. Kinda says the data is null and void.
We have much more to fear from flu designed in a lab than we do from co2. Trees and plants will likely thrive on any increase. Carbon credits etc is a money making scheme by governments. Note when the measurement site was made..the volcano was not active.
***********
“This U.S. government observatory, 11,141 feet up Mauna Loa’s northern flank, also measures methane and other significant greenhouse gases. It was here on Hawaii’s Big Island that climatologist Charles David Keeling pioneered the measurement of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, installing his experimental manometer on the gently sloping volcano in 1958.”

In “Between Two Ages” (1970) our pal Zbigniew Brzezinski talked about weather as a weapon of war. HAARP can control the weather now. Droughts are not stopped with the technology, but hurricanes have been unusually destructive especially recently where blacks were displaced. China is quite open about the fact that they can control the weather. A week or so ago, they caused too much snow to fall. It is acknowledged by the US military the next war will be a water/resource war. A forty year war plan has been drawn up. Can’t think of the name right now, but I read the document a few months ago. Thirty minutes before the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, the red-blue-yellow was in the sky and was captured by a couple of citizens. This was HAARP..they somehow use magnetic impulse combined with whatever chemicals and/or magnetic field that create the color combo. This colored sky appears frquently where I live. It is created by chemical sprays from white or silver planes in such a way that the sun camouflages it because people don’t look directly at the sun. People world wide know what is happening, but the only government so far to admit to the chemtrail spraying is Germany. Polish your tinfoil hat while you consider that in the Artic the ice is disappearing where there is oil underneath..a coincidence, for sure. Here is the video from China.

“The “Space Preservation Act of 2001″ originally introduced in the House by Rep. Dennis Kucinich as HR 2977 has been re-written.
The new, revised bill, HR 3616, “Space Preservation Act of 2002″ was introduced January 23, 2002.
Re-writing bills is a common enough practice as a bill goes through the legislative process. However, the differences between HR 2977 and HR 3616 are more than just a few tweaks here or there.
By its conspicuous appearance in 2977, the term ‘chemtrails’ received a form of credibility within the official government process never seen before…producing the hope that one courageous Representative had finally had the fortitude to take the issue of chemtrails to a level of Congressional scrutiny long overdue.
Even though chemtrails are sprayed/deployed in the 2-6 mile high range, and not the 60 mile altitude stated in 2977, the simple fact of their inclusion in Kucinich’s 2977 list of weapons systems was deemed a major breakthrough by tens of thousands of citizens and researchers across the country who have been monitoring and investigating the spraying going on in the skies of America for the past three years.
In Rep. Kucinich’s revised new (some would say ‘emasculated’) Bill, HR 3616, there is no longer any mention whatever of:
* chemtrails, * particle beams * electromagnetic radiation * plasmas * extremely low frequency (ELF) or ultra low frequency (ULF) energy radiation * or mind-control technologies as weapons systems covered in the measure. ”

“From 3AM on Wednesday November 25, 2009, until 3AM the following day (US east coast time), WikiLeaks is releasing over half a million US national text pager intercepts. The intercepts cover a 24 hour period surrounding the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.
The messages are being broadcast to the global community “live”, sychronized to the time of day they were sent. The first message is from 3AM September 11, 2001, five hours before the first attack, and the last, 24 hours later.
Text pagers are usualy carried by persons operating in an official capacity. Messages in the archive range from Pentagon and New York Police Department exchanges, to computers reporting faults to their operators as the World Trade Center collapsed.
The archive is a completely objective record of the defining moment of our time. We hope that its revelation will lead to a more nuanced understanding of the event and its tragic consequences.
An index of messages released so far is available here.

Thanks, blue. Studied the text msge log for a while; would take a lot of time to sift thru all that will be presented. As a researcher, afraid I’d fail the course.
Not to bother reading them yourself. Others will point out any interesting e-mails, so let them have the stress..’g’.
Interesting conversation going on here. What you think?
I am so tired of long comments getting disappeared around here. Frustrating to say the least. I was commenting on the wiki information and poof..gone into cyberspace. So, before it happens again, I will tell you that I’ll try to find something on the Chinese contract for you.
Thanks, blue. Sorry for the disappearing act. It has hap’d to me, too. Don’t know what’s going on; when the ox went into the ditch…
Thanks for searching on the Chinese Dragon. There’s something smelly there, otherwise it would not be so secret. As you know, NY City (and state) have a history of corruption – and I can’t shake the idea that this contract is not somehow linked to OB’s China visit.
Have a happy Thanksgiving (and tell your helpful tech son “thanks” for me again.)
I will tell him. He enjoyed helping you. I still wonder if that is Libby’s problem..she might not know that she needs a program to make videos work. No Thanksgiving for me. Ours is always the second Monday in October. Enjoy yours! Bush 1 was in deep with the Chinese..always. Why when spies for China have been caught in the US would they give a contract to them in such a high security area?
“The contract was given to China Construction American Co, a subsidiary, the Wall Street Journal quoted a source as saying.
“The new project, along with the $410-million Hamilton Bridge project and a $1.7-billion entertainment project it won earlier this year, signals China State Construction’s ambition to tap the American construction market,” said Li Zhirui, an industry analyst at First Capital Securities.”

Bank of America will benefit from any contract. (Nov /08) Don’t credit me with any information you might use from my searching. Some long timers do not like me, so sshhhh. Nice of you taxpayers to finance this kind of investment with the bailout money..’g’.

“Following the purchase, Bank of America would own 44.7 billion of the Class “H” shares of China Construction Bank, worth roughly $24 billion, Reuters reported. The initial investment has been a major financial success for BofA. Shares of China Construction Bank have risen 75% since the bank’s October 2005 initial public offering (IPO) – despite having fallen by more than half from their October 2007 peak, Reuters said.
Bank of America, which last month raised $10 billion to help fund the purchase of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. (MER), is lifting its stake in China Construction Bank from 10.8% to 19.1% percent, Bloomberg News reported. Once the deal is finalized, BofA will hold 44.7 billion shares of the Beijing-based lender. In fact, to actually purchase the shares, BofA will exercise an existing option with China SAFE Investments Ltd. (Central Huijin Investment Co.), a state investment arm that is the Beijing bank’s biggest stakeholder.
“China Construction Bank is tightly tied to the government and they are a preferred bank,” Richard Wottrich, managing director of Dresner Partners, a Chicago-based investment-banking firm, told Bloomberg. “China will probably return the favor someday by doing something for Bank of America if [it needs] help.’””

“American International Group said late Wednesday that it resolved all disputes with the insurer’s former Chief Executive Maurice “Hank” Greenberg and ex-Chief Financial Officer Howard Smith.
The parties agreed to release each other from all claims, including any claims by Greenberg and Smith against AIG for indemnification of future legal fees and expenses or settlement costs.
They also agreed to submit to an independent third party Greenberg’s and Smith’s claims for past legal fees and expenses, up to $150 million, to decide how much of that money AIG /quotes/comstock/13*!aig/quotes/nls/aig (AIG 34.68, -0.32, -0.91%) is required to pay.
The legal scuffles began after Greenberg was ousted by AIG’s board in the wake of a 2005 accounting scandal in which the insurer falsely inflated its reserves, making it look financially stronger than it actually was. ”

Again I am made aware that the Dragon is in the living room and I didn’t even see him approach. Back some time (80s ?/ 90s ?) I became concerned because the Brits were buying up US corps (what the Japanese hadn’t already gained control of).
Last time I called about power outage in my small town, a responder with a heavy foreign accent told me I no longer had an account with the only company I’ve had since 1977. He was not going to listen to me. Later learned he was in India. I demanded to speak to his super, then he asked me my name again and I told him “wing like you fly with and field like you work in”. Then he simply said ‘your power outage is estimated to be repaired in (x) hours’. Is it like that where you live?
Back in 2002 I made a trip to GA and another to VA doing genealogical research. Every motel and its restaurant was controlled by dusky foreigners…
Jobs in America? They ain’t coming back.

Just found this by accident. Back in 1997, the FBI fought against encryption in cells etc. Wiretapping made easy in other words. Interesting that FISA only gave immunity post 911; not pre 911. No protection for Clinton if he authorized US wide illegal tapping. I think that it has been a long time since Americans had any of that privacy guaranteed in the Constitution. Shame on your Congress; they allowed this to happen. This is how they become complicit. They did it, so a threat from Bush to expose their criminality got him his FISA immunity bill. They know are silenced forever because they do not have immunity..arrgghhh!
*****************
“This comes at quite an embarrassing time for the administration, given their policy on encryption. Strong encryption is the one technology that could have protected Pres. Clinton’s private pager messages, but the administration has been fighting against strong encryption. Top FBI officials have been giving many classified briefings to House members, asking them to ban all strong encryption in the US. These proposals are expected to reach the House floor soon, attached to the (originally pro-encryption) SAFE bill.
An anonymous White House staffer was quoted as saying that it would be
“an expensive and complicated proposition” to put encryption into pagers
and cellphones. This quote is interesting, because it’s the White House’s
crypto policies that have made it so complicated and expensive to add
strong encryption — the cellphone and pager industries have wanted to
add strong encryption for privacy and security, but the administration
has forcefully dissuaded them from doing so. ”

If you can be specific, I might be able to figure out what diary you want in regards to Libby. What information do you want to give her?
No problem, blue. I was just letting Libby know I had responded to her comment and I got diarrhea of the keyboard. Probably best that nobody read what-all I ranted on about.
I would have put it here for you to link to rather than there. Many are the times we go on when out of sight of others. Much would not be good to be out in the open. Grumpy said yesterday that he is an ITT tech. How easy then for him then to give different IP addresses under which to use assumed names. I know how to do it and I don’t know much of anything in regards to computers. Easy to set up to get a notification when certain posters comment, also.
.
Slow as I am, I’m beginning to figure some things out in respect to that quote. blehhhhhhh, spit. [picking daisy petals: "stay in/get out"]
Here’s a great new article by Sibel Edmonds outlining the way the executive branches crimes are being covered-up by ham-fisted application of the State Secrets Privilege.
Horn’s case, which involved the CIA being caught red-handed lying in court, isn’t the only one threatening to become common knowledge, there’s also the case of whistle-blower Richard Barlow who worked for the office of then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney under Assistant Secretary Stephen Hadley.
Barlow’s whistle-blowing was an attempt to block the sale of F16 fighter planes to Pakistan because the sale violated the law against the sale of technologies that could be used to deliver nuclear weapons.
Barlow discovered that highly placed U.S. officials were enabling Pakistan to build nuclear weapons, and that A.Q. Khan, the leader of the Pakistani nuclear network developed Pakistans bomb in part by violating U.S. laws. Barlow also discovered that top officials were hiding these activities from Congress.
Then of course there is the case of Sibel Edmonds herself, who stumbled onto the illegal activities of the black-market in nuclear secrets and has been the focus of our government efforts to invoke silence via the State Secrets Privilege.
Edmonds points out in her latest article that the only discussion of the SSP that you’ll ever hear in the MSM inevitibly relate to cases involving folks with Arabic names and thus represent efforts to obfuscate rather than inform.
I’m hoping against hope that somewhere along the line the pot boils over and this stuff gets the kind of attention it deserves which of course would require our president to face his constitutional responsibilities more than he has so far.
Time to ask some questions of the puppets in both parties. The pot will boil over when citizens turn up the heat.
**************
” Why is the first and most egregious invocation of SSP, Edmonds V DOJ, missing in every single case analysis and article you’ve written?
Why is Richard Barlow’s SSP case, involving AQ Khan and the CIA-Pentagon’s misleading of Congress, absent from every single piece, article, and speech?
Why in the world is this recent explosive revelation in the Richard Horn case, where the CIA abused the SSP but was caught doing it, not showing up in your work?
Come on people, do me a favor and go after these phony puppets and grill them. This is very important because the damage caused by these lowlifes impacts all of us, all our civil liberties, greatly. Not only that, these puppets are fueling racism and hatred by singling out Arab & Muslim based names in their citation of State Secrets Privilege cases, and singling them out as the only recipients of the SSP, and as cases related to our perpetual ‘war on terror’ excuse. ”

I’ve emailed all three of them, but, once again, I get an automated message from Sestak’s office that I’m not “verifiably” in his district… even though I included my zip plus four code, as well as the fact that I’m in PA’s CD 7.
I’m beginning to think I’m on some kind of blackballed list in his office.
Here is link to House Armed Services Committee Members.
From Scahill:
Just awful.
Thank you, Jim.
I’m having flashbacks to the secret wars in Laos and Cambodia as I read these revelations.
Me too.
Here is link to the Senate Armed Services Committee Members.
Alaska Sen. Mark Begich is on the Senate Armed Services Committee. What should we be asking these Senators? – investigate an illegal war in Uzbekistan? Investigate the illegal way Blackwater is being used to shop out the worst aspects of what is happening?
There needs to be a sharp focus on protests or legislative queries, and I’m not sure what that is. But I’ll help mobilize some Alaska bloggers if there IS a focus.
To me, the key questions are the black budget for Blackwater and how it appears to be operating through a route that bypasses the military chain of command and away from Congressional oversight. I would also throw in that McChrystal’s shady history in other activity very similar to this makes him totally inappropriate for command in Afghanistan given Scahill’s revelations.
Yeah. And Marcy observes this morning that Blackwater is in a position to get data from both strains of illegal covert activity (JSOC & CIA), as was the OVP. Does Blackwater only contract with the US Government, or does it also have contracts with other nations?
Scahill shows that there might be a contract between a Blackwater operation and the Pakistan government:
Jeremy Scahill is a brave man.
As 24ish as all this is, I have another concern: Heroin Smuggling from Afghan to US.
BW/Xe has it’s own air fields in the US. Private air fields are free from FAA inspections I think. Is it a stretch to imagine XE flying heroin out of Afghan, to South America, and then into the US?
BW has purchased many air services which it provides to the military (Read pgs 322-330: Scahill’s book, Blackwater…)
In 2005, we enlarged an air field in South America, near the 100,000 acres Bush purchased which is also near Rev. Moons ranch. Here is a description of this area:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article11409.htm
Rumsfeld was involved in this, need I say more. The military has received total immunity from Paraguay:
“On May 26, 2005 the Paraguayan Senate granted the U.S. troops total immunity from national and International Criminal Court jurisdiction until December 2006. The legislation is automatically extendable. Since December 2004, the U.S. has been pressuring Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Paraguay into signing a deal which would grant immunity to U.S. military. The Bush administration threatened to deny the countries up to $24.5 million in economic and military aid if they refused to sign the immunity deal.” Dangl wrote.

As we know from Vietnam, drug money is great for financing covert actions using Air America planes. Now we have outsourced covert actions to private entity Xe according to this report and others which also has many planes for hire.
Afghan opium is now on the streets of America, so pure it is killing our youth. An overview here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/10/30/798615/-$10-A-Bag,-Heroin-Deaths-Spike-in-US-BurbsAfghanistan
Is it a stretch to have suspicions of how and who is behind this? Perhaps. However, if history is prologue, the huge spike in Afghan opium since we showed up there makes the question reasonable to raise.
In my wild imagination, I can see how the militant, heartfelt, even religious ideology of all involved in our “war on terror” can justify “the end justifies the means” strategies. However, when so much money and power is funneled into/through private corporations operating without any oversight and even immunity, it is too easy to also imagine how horribly wrong this could turn out.
Do read Scahill’s book if you haven’t already. It is riveting.
If we’re not careful we’ll discover that Cheney and Rumsfeld are still running the war.
What are we gonna do then?
I read the buzzflash thing earlier today. It’s interesting but a bit jumbled. It deoesn’t credit the big quote from the Moonie Times that is from just after Rumsfeld left office, not now.
Yes, I noticed that the description of Rumsfeld’s Pentagon office was displaced in time, but I think the money quote in your post says enough to get me scratching my head again;
My take away is that McChrystal is clearly compromised, if not worse.
Once a dog gets used to running free, it’s hard to get him to stay in the yard, and that is saying nothing about the question of being loyal to a new master.
One might also ask just how voluntary joining Xe/Blackwater is once things reach a scale like this.
Special Operations troops are reportedly in short supply and their units tend to absorb disproportionate losses. Xe can pay well, of course. But giving up honorable service, possibly a commission, and a military pension in order to take up even more dangerous and probably illegal work is asking alot. So how does Blackwater get the former US special operations people it needs?
One way is how they did it back in the Vietnam years–sheepdipping. A superior strongly suggests to an active-duty soldier that resigning and joining the privateers is what the nation wants and tht not doing what the US wants might be unwise.
In Scahill’s article I picked up on the statement that Blackwater/Xe has sometimes made things difficult for the Dept. of State due to their black op activities. This made me think that maybe we should contact the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. At link is list of members; some good strong Dems. Wonder if they are looking into this JSOC/Blackwater mess? If not, they should be. I think they need to execute the Power of the Purse, cut off funding for all programs that do not reveal their activities to the Senate and House Intel committees.
It is my understanding that Blackwater is also active in Africa and contracts with other foreign govs. I tried for a list; more work to do on it.
Look at this wiki under Iran and see what Bush’s secret finding allows JSOC/BW to do there, including “assassination of targeted individuals”.
I found this map of Blackwater locations in foreign countries. Shorter list would be countries where they are not. This map shows none in the ‘stans’, and now per Scahill, they are in Uzbekistan, so map needs updating.
Did you figure out the answer you needed from another diary? If not, it was scroll down. Also, there is an + at the bottom left, click on it to increase or decrease type size.
blue, I can’t quite dee-cipher what you mean; another diary? Found the map by googling some keywords.
I meant the scribd question you asked me at another diary two days ago. Sorry to have confused you..’g’. (The map is only where some of their airline is based).
Big Light Bulb!! Just keep on scrolling, huh? (good thing I have the book). Thanks, blue, sometimes I need the simplest kind of help…as you know. *g*
Jordan. Pg. 413 Scahill’s book.
We give Jordan money, who then uses it to hire Blackwater to train their forces. Also building a huge training complex similar to Blackwater’s Moyock training compound.
Sound policy? Many of Blackwater’s personnel are from around the world.
Thanks, WarOnError, I’m barricaded in by books but don’t have Scahill’s. (yet).
Until all mercenary contracted work and companies are lawfully made accountable to Congress, IMO they are gestapo of the Executive Branch. I’m really past fed-up with this take-over of our country.
You are welcome. Perhaps this can make research a bit easier for you.
To connect the dots of how the world dominance plan has and does work, the following five (5) books do a great job answering questions of how we got to where we are today and how these five areas may have worked in concert to do so:
History – Zinns A Peoples History of the United States (for the index at the very least)
Religion – The Family by Scarlett
Economy – The Shock Doctrine by Klein
Science/Weaponry – The Rise of the Fourth Reich by Jim Marrs
Military – Blackwater by Scahill
I have found having these together, that we can pick a country like Argentina, go to the indexes of these 5 books, and get a pretty complete picture of our role in the country, and an insight in how the US interacts with the world in general.
I call it CONNECTING THE DOTS.
Don’t be put off by the title to Marrs book, btw. It is well cited with credible sources. If you enjoy techie stuff, it will fascinate you although the gist of the book is the continuation of National Socialism before, during, and after WWII as the choice to defeat communism (the lesser of two evils) via economic collusion world-wide. I have enjoyed this book as much as the others. It is eye opening!!!
Thanks for the list, WarOnError. I just ordered Scahill’s updated/revised version published 2008 from Alibris @ $.1.99 + 3.99 shpg. Other sites (Amazon & Abebooks) prices were sky high (up to $70.00).
WOE, I’m older’n dirt, don’t poke into religion any more. Went through that phase back a ways. Concluded that I’ll take my chances with the Being who created my soul and leave the man-made theories alone. Seems they would all shrink my perspective down to seeing all things through that window; no thanks. I agree that religion and cultural beliefs are very important in understanding the different peoples of the world; it’s the zealots (fanatics) that we must be wary of, whatever the brand. (and those with no soul at all.)
The Family is more about how religion has/is being used to sway power world wide. It is an important element to include in the process of Connecting the Dots. It is a key Dot actually.
I’m no spring chicken either. I, too, strive to maintain my personal relationship with what my heart tells me is my Creator. I listen to my heart and strive to do the right thing each day. I wish all of mankind would leave each other alone and do the same. It seems that human nature’s need to “be right, by making others wrong” causes so many problems. It is what undermines peace. What a strange conundrum.
Yes, things are opposites now-a-days. When I hear politicians I think, “now what is the opposite of that?” Turns out to be true too often.
Ah, remember 1969, this Joe South song?
I found a copy at a Kroger’s grocery store.
Well, Bob, I ask myself: “What has dramatically changed this year at DoD?”
Does it matter what the names are of those in charge anymore?
We have a decision to make; do we accept that government of the few, by the few, for the few, shall not perish from the earth … no matter how we vote, or do we quit making believe everything is alright the way it has become and demand the change we thought we voted for?
If we decide we want those changes, I think we’re going to have to go to Washington and be counted.
There’s an interesting discussion of Jeremy’s article over at the opiniojuris.org blog here.
Some excerpts, from the post…:
…and a comment:
http://opiniojuris.org/2009/11/23/blackwater-assassins-posing-as-aid-workers/
I provided the definitions and tried to spell out the import of the distinction between “international” and “non-international” armed conflicts in a comment here yesterday, which adds some background to the (“unlawful combatant”…?) role Blackwater seems to be playing in Congress’s AUMF-authorized Armed Conflict against (purportedly) 9/11 perpetrators/supporters.
Wow. Thanks for highlighting that. I had totally missed that bit in the article. It’s a huge accusation of war crimes.
For those without quick access to the Scahill article, here’s the passage in question:
Posing as aid workers to carry out targeted assassinations. Just how low will these guys go?
The Jewish Zionists (AIPAC, Neocons, and the big money types across the world that stand behind them) and the Christian Zionists (Blackwater, the would-be-Blackwater neonazis in and out of our military, and the millions of Ted Hagee/Left Behind followers) make up a coalition that could be unstoppable.
This coalition together has the brains, the money, the brawn, and the single minded fanaticism to dominate the world.
Please don’t confuse cunning and cleverness with brains.
Cunning is all the brains that’s needed with a populace as easily duped into things like Bush, Iraq, warrantless wiretapping, torture, and possibly Iran in the minute it would take to broadcast footage of the smallest false flag terrorist attack blamed on Iranians.
But they have more than just cunning. I’m not talking about the Christian Zionists of course.
We didn’t get to this point in history because our cabal-like masterclass is stupid. Never underestimate your enemy, as they say.
Think about how brilliantly executed the sale of the Iraq war was. If you have the courage and honesty, think about how brilliant the 9/11 operation was.
Well, none of the groups you listed in your initial comment are actually swimming in brains, not just the “Christian zionists”.
I do not argue that they can’t go far in life with cunning. I just argue that the groups you list are not full of brains.
And I definitely would argue that they make up a “cabal-like masterclass.”
I’m not underestimating them by any means. As you note, they went quite far with BushCo in charge. But it doesn’t make them brainy. They just knew their audience.
The Jewish Zionists (AIPAC, Neocons, and THE BIG MONEY TYPES ACROSS THE WORLD THAT STAND BEHIND THEM)
I would argue that Bloomberg is brainy, as is the Rothschild banking empire which controls our Fed and the Bank of England, among other central banks. The Rothschilds’ American front company, Kuhn Loeb financed the rise of the Rockefeller oil monopoly, the Harriman railroad empire, and many others.
Morty Zuckerman is brainy, as are many of the other 200-300 other Jewish American tycoons that are worth over $500 million and use their collective wealth and power to intimidate and silence all critics of Israel, and who account for 50% of all Democratic campaign contributions.
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/24/goucher_college_bans_speakers_it_deems_anti-israel/
I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this. While I abhor the actions of AIPAC and sundry other groups, I find the idea that there is some great banking conspiracy headed by the Rothschilds (or Rockefellers or Masons or Illuminati) that rules the world to be relatively inane and bordering on the same level of scapegoating that led to the pogroms and eventually to the holocaust.
As always, YMMV
Well, you could start by doing some research on the Rothschilds and Kuhn Loeb. I don’t mean to distract with the four letter word “Rothschild,” but the pervasive and complete success of AIPAC should tell you something about the ability of passionate Zionists to get what they want by way of bribery, intimidation, harassment, espionage, and media manipulation.
Are any of AIPACs biggest donors in the banking industry? Is there such thing as powerful Jewish bankers? Maybe we better check with Abe Foxman.
thanks, we have to keep being reminded of this deadly coalition
Here is Scahill’s 08/26/2009 article in The Nation on this same subject, calling for action by Congress, DOJ, Dept State, etc.. Last paragraph:
[emphasis mine]
Obama is not only employing Blackwater, but he’s doing nothing to put measures back in place and create new measures to ensure a future Bush/Cheney-like administration is incapable of declaring “emergency” martial law.
We are one more stolen election away from Glenn Beck being able to recruit over a million heavily armed “patriots” to join up with Blackwater or whatever other public/private police state apparatus can be dreamed up.
Would Obama and Rahm sell us out to such a fate? I can’t quite put it past them.
On a related tangent…
I added a two-part video to my post today that shows the interconnectedness of out-sourcing jobs and risking our national security.
It puts the lie to any BS about prioritizing national security (i.e., “wars” in Iraq and Afghanistan) over a jobs bill.
Sometimes it feels like it’s all lies. Now we the people are going to be asked to pay the bill for Big Oil and Big Coal, because implementing a tax on the people is so much easier than regulating key campaign contributors.
Al Gore developed his little scheme with Ken Lay and Goldman Sachs. What a shocker. Gore’s already made over $100 million with the Goldman boys.

I just got a call back from the staff in Senator Levin’s press office. I asked that staff take a careful look at the information in Scahill’s article with an eye toward questions that should be asked of McChrystal in the upcoming Senate Armed Services Committee hearings on the Afghanistan escalation plan (or perhaps in a separate hearing, if warranted). I pointed out the working around the chain of command to work directly with Cheney and the use of Blackwater personnel posing as aid workers to carry out assassinations. She said that she would ask staff to read the article but could not guarantee what questions would be asked.
ot – my apologies if this has already been covered: Detainee policy appointee quits Pentagon post
Thanks, Selise. The article at your link left me puzzled. I noted that the last field trip Philip Carter took was to Thomson, IL. I googled and came up with this Chicago Tribune article. There is a huge newly built prison there described as a ‘white elephant’. Mr. Carter was apparently one of the Defense Dept. employees who met with Dems & Repubs there in closed-door meetings. One Repub 2010 candidate said, “Guantanamo is not being closed, they’re moving it here.” The picture of what is ahead there for detainees is pretty grim, when mentioned at all the attitude seemed to be they were ‘the worst of the worst’. Mr. Carter probably knows that the majority of them left in GITMO were swept up and sold for bounty to the Americans and are innocent of wrongdoing.
So Mr. Carter returns to DC and disconnects. Your article said he is a blogger; I’ll see what more I can learn.
Jeff Kaye just put up a post about him. Jeff has an interesting angle on the situation, but the word today that we might actually get a confirmation vote on Dawn Johnsen after the health care bill argues a bit against Jeff’s theory. I’m thinking Carter was just too depressed about where things are headed. At any rate, Jeff has links (which I haven’t had time to check out yet) to some of Carter’s blogging.
Thanks, Jim. I’ll check it out.
Thanks, Jim. Here’s the link to the Jeff Kaye article which discusses the resignation of Philip Carter. It added support to my thinking about this sad loss for the detainees.
Philip Carter headed up Obama’s campaign for getting the Vets on board. Many of us feel disappointed and let-down by Obama’s not living up to his promises; Philip must feel that many times over. Born in 1975 he is now only 34, there is a sadness in his eyes for such a young man. I hope he chooses to go the route of ACLU or Center For Constitutional Rights; there’s too much of the right stuff in him to go the corporate greed way.
Selise, I found this clip of a debate 04/2008 between Philip Carter and Eli Lake. Long and sometimes a drag, but good for studying Philip and hearing some of his deep beliefs regarding the Iraqi people. At one point near the end he told of asking his Iraqi interpreter, a history professor, what did he think was the most important document. The Iraqi answered: Eleanor Roosevelt’s 1948 Declaration of Human Rights. Carter added that there is much in that Declaration that ties in with the basic Islamic beliefs.
I doubt seriously that Philip Carter left his post quietly; more like Matthew Hoh did, I suspect. [I've been wrong now and then in my life. heh, heh] I’m really glad you posted this link, selise. Thank you.
Forgot the link. Here ’tis.
Oct /05. More American investors in China. When the big run on banks happened last year, perhaps it was China wanting some money. Sad to say, it is appearing to be that American companies are investing in China and to heck with America. Send the jobs there and then invest in the companies who profit from those jobs; crooks and traitors to the working people of the US they are. Should be some big tax laws against that. Easy enough to do, tax big time any company who sends jobs off shore. Invest in Chinese construction companies and then make sure somehow they get the construction jobs in America..tar and feathers time. Will keep looking; can’t find out yet how this happened..ie..who picked the Chinese for the subway contract.

“China’s biggest state-owned bank formally launched a joint stock company on Friday in preparation for selling its shares overseas following an initial public offering by smaller lender China Construction Bank.
Like China Construction Bank, whose shares began trading Thursday on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, ICBC has sought outside investment and expertise as it revamps in preparation for the full opening of China’s banking industry to foreign competition in 2006.
The bank said earlier that investors including Goldman Sachs Group Inc., American Express Co. and Germany’s Allianz AG planned to buy a combined 10 percent stake for more than $3 billion, with the deal to be finalized after bank was restructured. ”

blue, I’ve been searching under Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and I’m dropping this mess. It’s BIG dirty politics from Nadler to NY statehouse to NY City, to Teamsters Union…It appears that the main economic factor in NYC is the transit system. First excerpt is 11/25/09:
In Nov/2009 MTA unveiled their final 2010 budget proposal and its Nov. financial plan for 2010-2013. The approximately $11 Billion 2010 budget proposal...(this was far enuf for me).
also: NY Times city room blogs: 11/04/2009 President of NY City Transit resigns. “Howard K. Roberts, Jr. …became president in 2007…resigned Wed after a 2 1/2 year tenure… He began his career at NY City Transit in 1981 as a vice president for finance and administration. He graduated from West Point and holds 2 masters degrees from Princeton U.” [article mentions something about Roberts being a scapegoat.]
This mess stinks to high heaven and probably means kick-backs worth maybe half of the contract amount, IMHO. This is no game for me to mess around in, blue, I don’t relish the idea of having my throat cut.
The day those shots rang out in Dallas JFK wasn’t the only one assassinated, so was the USA.

Yes, it was, but never give up on hopes of reincarnation. It can be brought back if certain things happen..auditing the FED is step one.
I really have no idea of the ramifications of this, but I wonder if AIG had anything to do with the contract being given to China as part of the deal here? Everything I read is showing a pattern of American companies profiting from investment in Chinese ones. Selling out American workers seems to be one of their favorite pass times.(PDF)

“The ICC’s chief prosecutor, though, has no intention of waiting for Washington to submit to the court’s authority. Luis Moreno Ocampo says he already has jurisdiction—at least with respect to Afghanistan.
Because Kabul in 2003 ratified the Rome Statute—the ICC’s founding treaty—all soldiers on Afghan territory, even those from nontreaty countries, fall under the ICC’s oversight, Mr. Ocampo told me. And the chief prosecutor says he is already conducting a “preliminary examination” into whether NATO troops, including American soldiers, fighting the Taliban may have to be put in the dock.
“We have to check if crimes against humanity, war crimes or genocide have been committed in Afghanistan,” Mr. Ocampo told me. “There are serious allegations against the Taliban and al Qaeda and serious allegations about warlords, even against some who are connected with members of the government.” Taking up his inquiry of Allied soldiers, he added, “there are different reports about problems with bombings and there are also allegations about torture.” ”

Bush Cheney Condi..they are the witches.

“The Three Witches represent darkness, chaos, and conflict “
They definitely got that down good. Maybe the witches were at work way back when the Elder and B’s questionable parents were born. That Crowley, now…
Migraine is becoming unbearable..have to lie down and use an ice pack for a bit. See you a bit later unless we get shut down, or you’ve gone to sleep.
Sorry for the migraine. Wish I had a remedy. We’ve about worn out this day. ~~~tomorrow~~~
Definitely Crowley..it was fun..20 years of chronic migraines..bah. Good dreams to you.

“The choice, in my view, is between courage and cowardice cloaked as politics of the possible. Let me guess what you’re thinking—“But that’s asking too much of the young President; “cowardice” is too strong a word; Obama cannot possibly face down the entire military establishment.”
John Kennedy did. So the question is whether Barack Obama is “no Jack Kennedy,” or whether he will summon the courage to stand up to the misguided military brass of today. We are talking, after all, about thousands more being killed—and for what?
I would suggest to the President that he give another close read to Goldstein’s “Lessons in Disaster” and then ponder the lessons that leap out of Barbara Tuchman’s The March to Folly: From Troy to Vietnam.
Obama may also wish to ponder the words of W.E.B. Dubois:
“Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year. It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow”.” ”

Ray’s article has haunted me for days. Thought about doing a diary on it – so few seem to really appreciate him. OB may be remembering JFK and what happened to him when he defied his generals, CIA, J. Edgar Hoover, the Mossad, and unleashed RFK on the crime syndicate. No, OB is no JFK, and he’s definitely not going to stand up to Rahm. Did I give the link to Rahm’s involvement in B Clinton’s campaign?
No, you didn’t give a link. I know he pushed his way around the White House under Clinton and he wasn’t much liked. Mr. tough guy threatening death on perceived enemies etc. He had an agenda..MEGA. Ray scares people..they cannot handle the truth.
blue, the link to the Rahm ref is at my #113, click on “here”, then see #2 at the article you get. Here is what I wanted you to see but the whole series is very good.
My IQ goes down as the pain level goes up..’g’. Sorry; I had read it and thought you were referring to something else. Perhaps this generation of offspring of these corrupt people will choose another path. We can hope that they will be content to live off of the ill gotten gains of their parents and grandparents and great grandparents. These same families over and over for a hundred years. Way past time for this insanity to stop. They got away with everything in large part because of the secrecy within their groups. In the age of the internet it will not be so easy for these families to continue. Soon, as those in Bush 1′s age group start to die off, I’m hoping for positive change. If Israel falls within the next 20 years, or less, a lot will instantly improve. The CIA says it will and we know they are capable of arranging it. Germany did end up giving Israel those two subs for free..idiots.
“Australia is leading the revolt against Al Gore’s great big AGW conspiracy – just as the Aussie geologist and AGW sceptic Professor Ian Plimer predicted it would.
ABC news reports that five frontbenchers from Australia’s opposition Liberal party have resigned their portfolios rather than follow their leader Malcolm Turnbull in voting with Kevin Rudd’s Government on a new Emissions Trading Scheme.
Tony Abbott, Sophie Mirabella, Tony Smith and Senators Nick Minchin and Eric Abetz have all quit their portfolios because they cannot vote for the legislation.
Senate whip Stephen Parry has also relinquished his position.”
