Obama’s plan = The Galula Doctrine

Carlin was more honest in his comedy sketch than Obama was in his speech.
Thanks, John. Recommended.
Ah! George it’s nice to hear someone who has this Country in perspective.

“For several hours on Wednesday (Dec. 2), Pacifica Radio will provide live national coverage of the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Afghanistan policy with testimony from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff chair, Michael Mullen. There are a number of anti-war Democrats on the committee and we expect it to be lively.
Those who aren’t within range of a signal from a Pacifica station can listen to the broadcast online, streaming live at http://www.kpfa.org (just click on the “Listen Live” button near the headphones icon).”

“And so it must be, for — sadly — Barack Obama is no Martin Luther King.
This is the test for us: Do we have the courage that Obama lacks to confront hidebound generals corrupted by their medals and covetous of still more power — including the presidency?
Do we have the guts to confront those profiteering from war? We speak not only of the Halliburtons and Blackwaters. We speak also of corporations that covet the huge — we mean HUGE — amounts of gas and oil in countries just north of Afghanistan.
Those corporations are happy to have our young people kill and be killed so they can build a pipeline through Afghanistan to the Indian Ocean, bypassing both the Persian Gulf and Russia.
Can we stop the second resource war of the 21st Century — and prevent a third one against Iran?
It really seems as though we need a new chant:
“OBAMA WON‘T, BUT YES WE CAN!”
Can we force Congress to deny funds for further escalation? Can we do that?
YES WE CAN. ”

Claiming that the US fought World War II, because the Germans were moving into our turf is sick. Let’s not sink to the low parts of the Vietnam antiwar movement of screaming “baby killer” at President Johnson.
There were good reasons to fight World War II, even though the war was started on a lie, Pearl Harbor. There are good reasons to fight in Afghanistan but far more reasons not to. If we would let their morality be, and not stop them from executing someone for reading the Bible, we might root out al Qaeda.
Perhaps the UN should have a police force to stop any sick excesses by any country. But unless US forces are part of and under UN command we have no business meddling in their morality.
Obama who knew better, playing into that mind-set is to me the saddest part of his speech.
Anyway I am organizing “Back Obama not the war” google it, paraphernalia to take to the next pro-health care rally.

There was no good reason for WW2 and there is no good reason for fighting in Afghanistan.
Johnson’s war policy did in fact kill babies. How is that a “low point”.
Agree. Anyone who’s ever in Saigon should go to the War Museum and see the large color photos of My Lai.
Johnson didn’t personally kill all those babies, but the blame for My Lai ultimately rests with him.
We’ve seen how this movie ends so many times now.
To paraphrase the Butthole Surfers: Can’t we try to put another ending on the dream, so we come out a winner?
Carlin almost always got it right. Thanks for this. Hadn’t seen it for awhile.
