Now that FDL founder Jane Hamsher has forged a Faustian bargain with Grover Norquist, I will no longer be visiting FDL, blogging here, or even commenting.
I find her alliance with a Jack Abrahamoff stooge revolting and I can no longer in good conscience support FDL. The reality is I really only visit FDL to read Marcy Wheeler. I will miss reading Marcy’s excellent columns, but that is sacrifice I can live with.
Am I upset about the turn of events regarding HCR? Yes. Did I want single payer or at least a public option? Yes. Does Stupak-Pitts turn my stomach? Yes. Is the bill watered down? Big time. Despite all my reservations, failure to pass any kind of HCR before the 2010 midterms will probably result in a single term for President Obama and either a split Congress or complete Republican takeover.
IMO it seems like Jane and her supporters (on the left) would like to metaphorically cut off their noses to spite their faces and I can’t support that. The fact that Jane is a paid shill for the public option not only should have been openly disclosed but also made her opposition to the various turns in HCR seem self serving.
Compounding the problem is her pact with Norquist. So I guess Jane, who was so upset at the restrictions of Stupak-Pitts and Nelson that she hopped into the proverbial bed with someone who supported forced abortions.
Good luck with that.
Snip.

Obama will be a single term president because of this bill. He needs progressives in order to be re-elected and he’s losing us by the truckload.
The argument you’re posing is a non-sequitur.
“failure to pass any kind of HCR before the 2010 midterms will probably result in a single term for President Obama and either a split Congress or complete Republican takeover.”
And you’re okay with shafting the entire country in a futile attempt to avoid that?
Remember Bush’s Amnesty? How badly he wanted it, how much support it had, how inevitable it looked? It didn’t happen because there was a monstrous public outcry, and the lesson from that is it’s not too late to stop this disaster and try again.
Flood Washington with calls, letters, emails demanding that Obama veto this Bill and send them back to the drawing board to start over. It’s his only hope. It’s the Dems only hope. It’s everybody’s only hope.
Huh? What evidence is there for this claim?
Grover Norquist is an expendable clown. Rahm Emanuel is a cancer at the heart of this administration.
goodriddance then…if you can’t see the bigger picture, and really insist that Jane is getting in bed with such scum…well, like I said.
I wouldn’t stay here either if I was willing to sell out the vast majority of American’s in order to claim some sort of “victory” that would allow me to remain in power. Which is more cynical: finding common cause with a scumbag on this one issue in order to accomplish something useful, or making common cause with thousands of scumbags in order to accomplish something worthless? Good luck.
That’s kinda poetry.
People should bitch about others selling out, when almost all of us have sold our Country and People out by supporting one of the two parties.
It didn’t just become apparent yesterday that neither party had the peoples and yes even the Countries interests at heart.
It wasn’t yesterday that they started being bought by the special interests.
It wasn’t yesterday that they started telling us we sent them their to decide for us, not represent us.
Yes we have been selling ourselves out by supporting the two parties and the people they give us to vote for.
Notice no one is willing to admit they are part of the problem, because they voted for all these people to be in office.
So at least give Jane credit for trying to have some influence on what happens, and not casigate her for reaching out to others.
