    It’s still powerful…

What have we learned? I don’t know. Hopefully something like what Scarecrow is talking about.

I hope we’ve learned how to react and how not to overreact. I hope we’ve learned that our morals and our freedom are perhaps more important than our safety. I hope we’ve learned that every cause has an effect, and every effect a cause.

Honestly, I’m not sure we’ve learned that stuff. We invaded two countries, we tortured, we were told to keep shopping. Eight years later, we’re beginning to realize some of those reactions weren’t right. Maybe that’s the larger lesson.

Jason I just sent this comment to the Diane Rehm Show. We will see if they read it

“Deepest sympathies to all families who lost beloved family members on 9/11. Two dear friends Bev and John Titus lost their treasured daughter Alicia that day she was an airline stewardess on one of the flights used as a deadly weapon and rammed into the twin towers.

Bev and John along with other 9/11 family members and hundreds of Vets led the anti invasion March in New York City in Feb of 2003. These people had the intellect and reason to know from experts such as former Weapons inspector Scott Ritter and the head of the Iaea Mr. El Baradei that the cherry picked pre-war intelligence validity was seriously questionable.
They knew that the attacks on 9/11 were in no way tied to Iraq

8 years after 9/11 many many innocent people in the U.S., Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere are injured and dead…..Dead

How can we all extend and cultivate the reasoned thinking of those brave people who led the anti invasion March that wintery day in New York to future situations?”

This is the site that John and Bev put together for their beloved daughter.

Let’s hope our leaders our Reps do not make the same or similar mistake with Iran. The individuals who participated in a very big way in lying our nation into an unnecessary and immoral war in Iraq started beating the on the war drums with Iran immediately after the invasion of Iraq.

Micheal Ledeen, Frank Gaffney, Cheney, BOlton, Bill Kristol, and many others started repeating the unsubstantiated claims that Iran “has, wants, dreams of, is after, desires,” a nuclear weapons program.

Former head of the Iaea Mr. El Baradei and the present head of the Iaea have stated that there is no “hard evidence” to back up these endlessly repeated claims.

Aipac, Jinsa and other supporters of a pre-emptive strike on Iran continue to beat the war drums.

Did we learn anything? Sure does not look like it

Thanks for that story, Leen. I agree on Iran, anything like a pre-emptive strike by us or our allies would be another huge mistake.

    Oops

“These people had the intellect and reason to know from experts such as former Weapons inspector Scott Ritter and the head of the Iaea Mr. El Baradei that the “validity” of the cherry picked pre-war intelligence was seriously questionable”

Bev and John Titus continue to focus on and work for Peace. They were very involved in issues of Peace before their daughter Alicia was killed

The city of Dallas emptied out, fearing tall buildings there would be attacked. Interestingly, news from Muslim nations since has reminded U.S. citizens that many of those not practicing radical versions of their religion rejected the idea that one of their own had created such a horror. The conspiracy theory remains, there and in some circles here, containing those who still believe that the CIA, the Israeli forces, or some other force actually bombed the twin towers.

I think you’re probably looking for something deeper than this, but the first and foremost thing we should learn from the hijacking is that it’s a bad idea to continue manufacturing planes in which the cockpit is accessible from the cabin.

For me, the biggest lesson was the danger of emotional group responses. On an individual basis, most people are basically moral and are able to respond to hurtful situations with rationality, restraint and even forgiveness. As a nation, we are just the opposite. We act rashly out of our collective fear and are easily manipulated by those with sinister agendas. We respond not only with “eye for eye” justice, but with the level of vengeance that causes millions of deaths in response to 3000
