Today, longtime CNN anchor Lou Dobbs announced that he is leaving the network effective immediately. During his final broadcast, Dobbs explained his decision and hinted at his future plans:
At this point, I’m considering a number of options and directions, and I assure you, I will let you know when I set my course. I truly believe that the major issues of our time include the growth of our middle class, the creation of more jobs, health care, immigration policy, the environment, climate change, and our military involvement, of course, in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But each of those issues is, in my opinion, informed by our capacity to demonstrate strong resilience of our now weakened capitalist economy and demonstrate the political will to overcome the lack of true representation in Washington, D.C.
Some believe that Dobbs will "immigrate" to FOX News, but to me it seems that he is pointing towards a run at public office. What do you think?

“…it seems that he is pointing towards a run at public office..”
That’s a scary thought. I’m assuming he could easily pick up some good wingnut financial backing for a run at office, however.
Running for office?
Cripes, it does sound like it. But where would he run from? He probably lives in an area with well-to-do educated folks who are not his obvious supporters.
I think he’s from Texas originally.
Maybe. But he claims to have grown up a poor potato picker in Idaho. Be interesting to see where he lands next.
He lives in New Jersey…but he can always move! He’s got national name recognition.
That said, while his announcement hinted at that as a possibility, it’s still just speculation. Personally, I have trouble finding it likely, though that’s largely just a gut reaction.
Mmmm, Kieth just quoted a little more – something about Dobbs saying he has recently been “encouraged” to move on “more constructive” action, or something. Yeeeeecccch.
Maybe he’s going to pick up a teaching certificate and get a job at a public school in New Jersey.
Did he jump or was he pushed?
And will he land the inevitable gig on Fox News or will MSNBC finally see the light and give him Keith Olbermann’s slot?
Too close to call?
Just so they leave Rachel Maddow alone, right?
Where’s the ritual statement about spending more time with his family? The inspirational lecture field has openings – and no doubt has several locales with anti-immigrant constituencies on tap.
