There’s really no commentary needed for this, a list of curriculum changes being carried out by the Texas Board of Education:
– To avoid exposing students to “transvestites, transsexuals and who knows what else,” the Board struck the curriculum’s reference to “sex and gender as social constructs.”
– The Board removed Thomas Jefferson from the Texas curriculum, “replacing him with religious right icon John Calvin.”
– The Board refused to require that “students learn that the Constitution prevents the U.S. government from promoting one religion over all others.”
– The Board struck the word “democratic” from the description of the U.S. government, instead terming it a “constitutional republic.”
It truly boggles the mind. What’s on your mind tonight?

When the Rocky Horror Picture Show is outlawed only outlaws will see the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
Well, we won’t have very far to look for the reasons our kids keep getting dumbed down.
The constitutional republic is the one thing about which the school board is correct. If we actually had a democracy, Al Gore would have been President because he received the greater number of the popular vote. In stead, we had the fiasco of the electoral college negate that victory because the Founding Fathers couldn’t bring themselves to allow the population at large (composed only of white males, mostly with property) to control the elections. They had to be overseen by the elite males in the states.
Let’s sell/trade TX to China. They can give us Taiwan in exchange.
OH! I LIKE that solution, a LOT! That’ll take care of the ugly problem with textbooks, won’t it?
And then I would have a better crack at persuading my kids to learn some Mandarin on top of the Chinglish they are already learning.
What are they going to tell kids when they ask who wrote the Declaration of Independence and served as third President of the United States?
