Hi, y’all.
I won’t have much time to Occupy this week until Memorial Day is passed. I’m rushing about getting ready for a nice 6 day vacation out in a pecan grove somewhere in Texas with a couple thousand of my closest friends. Six days away, so much to plan and prepare. Now that I’m in the midst of it, I can’t believe I thought I might sneak away to Chicago for a weekend and not be in a total panic today.
But I am awfully proud of the thousands in the streets of Chicago over the last few days. I’m also proud of my allies at Occupy Austin who performed three separate banner drops in solidarity with the protesters in Chicago (Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3). After getting so heavily involved, it was nice to just see an action from the outside.
Unfortunately, it turns out two of our occupiers, Carl and Alex, have been arrested in the aftermath of today’s action. This story is still developing as of this writing.
If you’re going to be in Texas for Memorial Day and you aren’t going camping, you should check out Harvey Milk Day 2012. Last week, we had two separate posts about how inspiring Harvey Milk Day can be, by Michael Diviesti and John Dean Domingue. If I hadn’t been attending the same festival for the last 12 years, I’d be there for sure; with all those classes and a fun march and roller disco, I’m conflicted about my choice!

Had mostly forgotten the coming weekend is Memorial Day … I’ll be packing for my move but having that extra time to do that sensibly will feel really good.
Just catching up on actions here in Chicago and it sounds like the CPD actually hassled some of the buses leaving from the Convergence space. They really can’t let go eh?
It was so inspiring to have so many amazing people in town this week and to have our streets filled with chants and energy. Come back soon!
Kit, could you or someone more appropriate check on what happened to my comment #262504 to masoninblue’s post “Why is Travon Martin Dead?” It’s listed in my comment history but never appeared in the thread. Posted it yesterday (Monday, 5/21) morning. Per the website FAQ, I emailed “Bill” about it, but I’m not sure the Bill I’m thinking of still works for FDL. Thanks.

I think for those of us paying attention, NATO shows the continued potential and vitality of the Occupy movement. No wonder they’re scared & on the attack!

So I’m just saying “Hi, I’m Broke and Unemployed”.
You may have seen me on that orange website. But I took a break from there, I really feel that place has shifted to the right of where I am politically. From looking at blog posts and comments here, I think FDL may be a better fit for me. I’ll probably post a diary here and there after I get a feel for the way this community operates.
