Hi, y’all.

This weekend I’m attending Art Outside near Rockdale, Texas. It’s a fascinating event, combining a commercial music festival with the fiery creativity inspired by the Burning Man counterculture. There is live music on five stage areas, along with workshops, spoken word and even stand-up comedy. There’s also large scale installation artwork, fire dancers, aerial artists, and other performances, even an outdoor art gallery with docents sharing wine.  Last year I attended for the first time, and recounted the experience on my blog Approximately 8,000 Words (part 1 and part 2).

This year I’m attending as a member of the press. I’ll be sharing the event with you here on myFDL, including some of its more thought provoking visual artists in Saturday Art posts. I’ll also be livetweeting at @KitOConnell.

I am settled and enjoying some spoken word and stand up comedy under the pavilion. So far, I have learned that bananas don’t need QR codes or a marketing slogan (‘nature’s energy bar’).

If there’s anything that looks especially interesting let me know and I’ll try to follow up on it Saturday or Sunday.

This is also the latest watercooler open post. What’s on your mind?
