Much like Tim Minchin I enjoy the togetherness & family aspects of this holiday despite not being religious. I’ve spent the last couple days with a good friend who also didn’t have family to visit this year, and I’m going to a potluck tonight at an occupier/hippie co-op. We’ve indulged in a lot of the Christmas classics I grew up with like How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Year Without a Santa Claus. And some definitely not-classics like this: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, a terrible old film raked over the coals in that special Mystery Science Theatre 3000 style. It’s really an awful flick, but there’s something comforting about Joel & the bots after all these years. Hope it gives you a chuckle.
Winter is finally here, and it is finally time to tear all the tomato plants out of the garden even in Texas. Hope you’re staying warm and smiling tonight however (or if) you celebrate.
This is our latest open thread. What’s on your mind?

Maybe not. But it is a cult film.
It is a cult classic. with Pia Zadora, which isnt worth much these days. But I don’t think I could stand it without the MST3K crew lampooning it.
Thanks for the link, I always love the commentary of the MST3K crew!
How was your end of the world party last week? I had to work all night during a blizzard and we all started laughing when the power went out at midnight!
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for Better World!
Thanks for asking! My party was fun. Tons of good food. So much booze my fridge is still full of beer. Some delicious handmade chocolates. Really a good time and about as full as the house should get. Too cold though for any human sacrifices on the altar outside though… winter is finally here in Texas. ;)
Happy holidays to you too!
I have a question
Why do so many people with smartphones think you can only access the internet at wifi hotspots?
Hard to understand people. These same people seem to think there are only certain areas within coffee places, or restaurants, or libraries where you can get wifi. They don’t seem to understand that wifi is radio waves and that the waves aren’t exclusive to one or two tables
Maybe I’m a magnet for the people who don’t take the time to think things through
The only people I know like this are people who have smart phones but no data plans, so they’re right of course. Sounds annoying.
Technologically inept people can be frustrating though!
