It’s Monday so maybe you need a song about pirates to cheer you up. Here’s a folk song by Canadian folk-rock band Great Big Sea in a video from 2011.
I’m dropping in on a Idle No More solidarity rally today and I’ll try to have some photos or coverage from it soon, along with coverage of the small counterprotest last weekend to Texas’ giant, homophobic pro-choice “Rally For Life.”
What’s on your mind today? This is the latest MyFDL open thread.
Update:
A small Idle No More solidarity rally today at the Texas State Capitol.
A small but friendly gathering took place tonight at the Texas State Capitol to support the #IdleNoMore movement. It’s the second of what will hopefully be many Austin actions, as this movement is just beginning to organize seriously in the state. My fellow Lonestar FDL readers might want to Like the new Idle No More Texas page on Facebook.

Evening, Kit. Came across this story about cooperatives ion Austin today and thought of you …
Wish I’d heard about this before it happened so I could have helped publicize it. Those are great groups — and Cooperation Texas does a lot to build new coops.
Yeah, looked cool to me, made me wish I was there.
Re the “wish I’d known sooner”,I too often find that is the case with a lot of stuff. I woulda been out for Idle No More, but hadn’t heard (and thanks for that, better late than etc). I don’t twitter at all and am facebooking only rarely these days. Seems like putting the noose around my own neck, you know. But OTOH, seems like that is how people are connecting these days. Hard decision for me.
If you can make knowing use of the tools then they are great for organizing in plain site. You have to use them with open eyes to what they are and who had access to them. In the end it’s up to you what you share.
Captain Kidd is fun, but GBS’s rendition of Lukey is even better for a drinking song.
Thanks, I’ll check it out! Pandora just recently introduced Great Big Sea to me.
