Now Goldman Sachs head, Lloyd Blankfein, who recently said he was, "Doing God’s work…" is stating, “It was a joke!”
BS. Just plain BS.
But the Guardian thinks Matt Taibbi got it right.
“The world’s most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money,” wrote Matt Taibbi.
Remember the bully at school? The one who would verbally bully and then when his intentional actions were caught by kids and school authorities, would reduce his bullying to, “It was suppose to be a joke.”
Bullies are whimps. They have an excuse for everything and only make apologies that suit their own cause.

‘A Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) member said there’s “growing consensus” among liberals that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner should step down.
DeFazio said that lawmakers have not yet drafted a plan to remove Geithner. The lawmaker also took aim at top Obama economic adviser Larry Summers for furthering many of the same policies favored by Geithner.
“We may have to sacrifice just two more jobs to get millions back for Americans,” the congressman added. ”

He shouldn’t just step down, he should be indicted along with Paulson and Bernanke.
thanks Klynn.

Sure not much making the MSM about those McClatchy reports. There was a letter from Blankfein up at McClatchy in response to the reports but no longer there. He said it was all lies

That entire story distilled down into its essence: the vampire squid metaphor.
Thanks! Anyone who has not yet read that story might do so now.
No thanks. Images like that and I may have trouble sleeping tonight.
Thanks for the links bluebutterfly and Leen.
KarenM I think I have read the Taibbi story three times. It should win an award.
I wonder how much more GS spin we will be hit with?
I this push to audit the Fed works. The Billions of taxpayers money that these institutions received may receive the investigation they deserve. The peasants are at the golden gates
What amazes Me is that for the years before the banking crisis the American people looked up to WAll Street and these Banks as the most wonderful things America had.
Even now the people think the country is recovering because these Banks are making money, and the stock market is up.
The Guy realy thinks He is doing Gods work, because we have treated them like God.
Our Government still considers them Gods. Even the Vice President went on John stewert and reiterated, that we had to save them or there would have been a world wide depression. A depression could be considered much better than still having them. BUT NO!!!! They have been saved so they can do it again.
Saving the Country and the people is sow far less important.
Hey folks, do not forget to read Jane’s post which is up on the front page regarding the FDL Fed audit letter regarding the “slight of hand” being played by the Watt amendment.
Naomi Klein makes reference to the banks as vampire squid in her MSNBC appearance today!
Thanks, klynn. Vampire squids rule! Waitaminute…
Dean Baker has a great post on the Watt amendment.
Actually, the usual bully’s statement is a little more belligerent…”What’s the matter, can’t you take a joke?” That puts the onus back on the bullied. Granted, the vampire squid can’t put the blame back on 95% of America, so his response had to shrivel back to the cowardly “it was a joke.” I guess Goldman’s bonuses were part of the joke too.
You are correct. I agree with the “more beligerent” response, “Can’t you take a joke?”
The latin translation for Vampire Squid is actually, “The squid from Hell!”
A bit more descriptive and correct. Pure evil.
It is the cowardly response in the shadow of their financial power plays which make regulatory measures and audits needed.
Amen!!
(and Happy B-day!)
Oh, sure it was a joke. We been splitting our sides with laughter ever since, right?
Good one, klynn. Thnx.
readerOfTeaLeaves,
Thanks for the bracket greetings!
fatster, his combining an apology for “some” of the financial mess with the the “joke” explanation was “arrogance par excellence.”
Bullies are whimps, but they never back down till You kick their asses.
he’s right. it was a joke.. on us, and it just wasn’t funny.
I thought about it and I decided the joke he and his friends have played on us is not funny.
It is time to investigate them for their criminal conspiracy to commit treason and fraud.
Bullies don’t back down when you stand up to them. That is a myth. They bluster and keep doing what they do unless you figure out a way to stop them. And then they fight back with lawyers or worse.
I want some of these people in jail and I want my money back.
Or you document their actions, call the papers, stand as a group, and nail their asses. Have done it and damn does it feel good. Strong message for young people who get the message early that you can not take a bully out.
One such instance was taking out an athletic director of a high school who was verbally abusing young women and men. This guy had been doing it for years. Thank goodness he had not been doing it with my three daughters because I would have taken him out.
When I found out just what he was saying to these kids, how often and how long it had been going on I was in shock. As I interviewed at least 30 young people as far back as my 32 year old daughter. The response that I heard over and over again was “there is nothing that can stop him. Everybody just accepts this is the way it is”. These young people accepted that the adults in their worlds would not do anything to chance this situation. Went to the superintendent of the school system and found that this athletic directors dad the superintendent of the school district next door had been protecting this guy. Taking a history of complaints and disposing of those complaints, You know the good old boys club.
When I read all of their policies and demanded that a private investigation take place from the outside they basically shit their pants. Knowing that if a private investigation took place that their asses would be on the line for protecting this sexual abuser. It is a long story. But this guy was taken out, by group pressure.
Bullies can be taken out…locally
But taking Bush, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Addington, Feith, the big abusers out and holding them accountable is another thing. These guys are murderers on a scale that has been matched in history but these guys are serious contenders for a spot on the top five biggest killer list.
