Oh, Daily Show archive! Is there no example of political perfidy you haven’t chronicled over the last decade?
By relying so heavily on deception, propagandists have made of truth, our invincible ally, and their own worst enemy. Once enough of us catch on to their public opinion-jacking magic, they’re doomed.
Not too long ago, former British Prim Minister Tony Blair made headlines when he said, even without WMD, he would’ve come up with "other arguments" for jacking the world to war in Iraq. Compare a The Daily Show with Jon Stewart segment, showing Blair taking questions in the House of Commons, and ask yourself: where’s our American Iraq inquiry?
*** The (British) Iraq Inquiry
We now know more about when the fates began to be sealed on Iraq. Tony Blair took a decision in April 2002 at President George Bush’s Texas ranch that Britain would work with the US in its efforts to topple Saddam Hussein from power. That, at least, was the clear implication of the testimony of Sir Christopher Meyer, the UK ambassador to Washington and Mr Blair’s senior foreign policy adviser, Sir David Manning. Mr Blair looks in an increasingly uncomfortable position over the biggest blunder of his time in office.
*** The (American) Iraq Inquiry (hey, I ask with feigned incredulity, where’s the effing link? Obama? Holder? Anybody going to stand up for "truth, justice, and the American way?" Or is that all now just a sick joke?)
Caution: Ari "Scarry" Fleischer makes a cameo near the end of the video.

And here’s Lewis Black (July 7, 2003), making a similar comparison of British and American responses to having been jacked to war by carefully scripted myths.
Now that the myths themselves have turned out to be the real WMD, now that the Shock & Awe spell has worn off, why isn’t the vaunted American system of justice leading the way?

Deception works, it has taken over our Country.
We still believe we are a Country of the people, by the people, and for the people. We believe voting makes us control our Government and the people in it. We believe our Government works. We believe in the two party system. We actually believe our Military defends us.
We couldn’t believe these things unless we bought the deception hook line and sinker.
Don’t blame the deception, but the ignorance that allows it to work.
True its how to tell the true Left from the other side they lie and never admit a mistake. We try our best not to lie and admit when we our wrong.
Tony would have still gone to war without any WMD why? No WMD that leaves humanitarian reasons and oil. I don’t see British troops stopping genocide in Africa. I recall something about about the Bushies saying that the war was not fought for humanitarian reasons.
That leaves oil. I’m guessing Tony is being froze out of the London Cocktail Wennie parties. What is power without respect or a social life?
I’m detecting a theme here: no matter what I say, it’s the other thing, right? Can I just bow down to your omniscience now, and get it over with? How’s this: yes, ir54, you’re right, ir54, what ever was I thinking by writing without asking you first, ir54.
Don’t blame the deception? So getting mugged has nothing to do with the mugger, it’s all your fault if you get mugged?
Can you back that up? Can you make an argument and state your case? Or do you come to the Lake just to tell people, ‘No, you’re wrong, it’s the other way around?’
Are you saying, no matter what we find out our dear leaders did to us, in violation of umpteen laws and our basic human dignity, it’s not their fault, it’s our fault for getting jacked?
You really want us to internalize blame for the crimes of our elected assailants? No thanks. I was among millions around the planet who saw through the ruse all the while. We tried to stop it. Now I’m supposed to blame myself for it? What kind of Sith mind trick is that?
Not only do I reject the idea of absolving the perps, and accepting blame for their crimes, I also demand accountability from our assailants.
Finally, here’s a sentence I want you to consider, you contrarian without a clue. “This sentence is false.” Am I right, is it false? If so, then it’s true, making it false again, and so on.
IOW, stringing words in a line doesn’t necessarily an argument make. Is pointless contrarianism all you got?
Merry Christmas, thanks for commenting.

Yes, I see your point. All these grand schemes and rationalizations have to pass through the hearts & minds of individuals, with all their personal histories, passions, aspirations, and weaknesses–esp. the weaknesses. What we might think would be a solemn moment has often turned out to be anything but. People we tend to pedastalize often turn out to be shockingly profane.
How we respond to shocks, especially the shock of finding out we’re not so perfect ourselves, now there’s the true test, you’re right.
Merry Christmas, thanks for stopping by.

Jon looks so young. These years have really aged us.
