I sent the following letter to President Obama, via the White House’s contact page, to Senate Majority Leader Reid, via his website contact page, to Speaker Pelosi, via her website contact page, as well as to Senator Schumer, to Senator Rockefeller and to Senator Harkin, and also to Representative Weiner and to Representative Grayson, via their website contact pages, after reading marcos’ recent post, “Lincoln Threatens to Join GOP Filibuster.”

Please consider calling their offices and/or emailing them too!

Dear President/Majority Leader/Senator/Speaker/Representative

This morning, I am seeing reports like this one in an article by Laura Litvan and Catherine Dodge at Bloomberg:

“Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln, who voted against a public option on the finance panel, said she still has concerns and wouldn’t vote to allow floor debate on something she doesn’t support. ‘It would be very difficult to move forward,’ the Democrat said yesterday.”

Can Democrats in the House or Senate stand idly by as a Senator who caucuses with the Democrats so blatantly threatens the Democratic Senate Majority Leader by joining with Republicans on a procedural vote?

Can Democrats in the House or Senate stand idly by as a Senator who caucuses with the Democrats so blatantly threatens the vast majority of Democratic Senators, indeed a majority of Senators in the United States Senate, by threatening to vote against the Democrats on a procedural vote?

Senator Blanche Lincoln must be called out forcefully, or the Democratic Senate leadership will be held hostage by so-called Democrats like Lincoln, who are in fact demanding to have the power to reduce one bill after another to worthless garbage as they force the Democratic Party time and time again to betray its core principles.

Please do not let this happen. A public health insurance option at least as strong as the one that appears in the Kennedy-Dodd HELP Committee bill deserves a chance to go to the Senate floor for debate and an up-or-down vote.

Otherwise, you are dooming us to a Republican takeover of Congress in November 2010.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Brc
