Good morning firedogs and happy Thursday!
I received an email from Ruth a few days back letting me know that she would be away for a bit. Being the absentminded doofus that I am, I forgot to reach out to the blogosphere and ask who would cover her post this morning.
So, for the first time in the history of Over Easy, there is no post. ZOMG! Ermahgerd! Ack!
You’ll have to allow this dribbling apology to stand in.
Sorry firedogs. I’ve let you down. Talk amongst yourselves, and bemoan my lapse, for it is an affront to us all.
See you in the comments.

Well darn. Good morning everyone.
Did you go looking for Over Easy before you remembered?
Good morning!
Yes. Yes I did. And I panic-emailed msmolly.
“Did we get someone else to write this morning’s Over Easy?!” or something like that.
Okay, looks like pot luck. Everybody contribute a link or two!
Just moving the spent fuel rods could cause an incursion.
Incursion is a polite way of saying “uncontrolled, uncontained, fission reaction”.
Well, it might do him some good.
Closest thing to squid news I could find quickly.
Boxturtle (Let he has never bobbled an email throw the first stone)
. . . human sacrifice, dogs and cat living together, mass hysteria !!!
Good Morning
Here’s something pretty cool to start the day.
Bwahaha. I came up with a funny title. I’m still laughing.
Good morning everyone.
Kris, what a great recovery. No need to worry, we can play without supervision for one day.
Or how about this one?
Good morning Middle Of My Universe.
Fukushima = bleak. It’s going to get worse before it gets better, innit?
Tancredo smoking pot = lulz. I hope he does. He could stand to lighten the heck up.
Zinc whatzit = cool. The uses in construction alone would seem to be a huge leap forward. No more cracked foundations.
Thanks BT. You lift me up. You’re the wind beneath my wings.
We have a pretty popular restaurant in our area called the “Broken Yolk.”
As JC says, this is a great way to start the day.
Mornin’ Baby
a little chilly on your ride this morning ?
Did you see this on facebook?
A good pun is its own reword.
Nice catch from the Ukrainian kid. What a cool clip! Alexia likes it.
scrambled, did ya ?
Omelette ya get away with it this time. :)
Not at all. 62 when I left Hutto and 63 in Georgetown. A very nice ride.
I did see that one a couple of days ago :) I think George Takei shared it. He shares the best stuff.
Oh! Here come the egg puns. I see.
I will NOT start an egg-based pun cascade. I just won’t.
Boxturtle (Tancredo is getting fried! hehe!)
Lulz. That’s a good one.
WAY cool. Dolphins in the wild are dangerous. Male dolphins have actually drowned female divers trying to rape them.
All of the dolphin encounters I’m aware of use female dolphins to avoid that risk.
Boxturtle (Got to ride a dolphin in Grand Bahamas. Best $100 I’ve spent!)
Egg Jokes.
I don’t know that it’s going to get worse, but they’re going to slowly tell us how bad it is.
I think the next “revelation” will be that they MIGHT have SOME corium in ISOLATED locations outside of containment.
Oh, and the Cs and St contamination levels are staying about the same in the Pacific. Which is NOT good, as if we weren’t leaking anymore it would be going down.
Boxturtle (Other than Tancredo, what politician would benefit most from a joint?)
Boehner, then Geithner.
Is this too irreverent?
My first reaction was Feinstein. She seems to have something against fun.
Boxturtle (And I would buy Boehner a joint just to watch him smoke it)
So has anyone seen the clip of Eden Hazard from Chelsea FC kicking a ball boy during yesterday’s match?
BawHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
*snort* *snigger*
Boxturtle (That’s the way a fundraiser SHOULD be run!)
I posted a response that lists on my screen as #30, but for some reason I’m awaiting moderation. What’d I do?
Boxturtle (Wonder how long it will sit. Does anybody see comment #30?)
I can totally see your #30
I see a #30, but it’s the one with the question. Hmmmm, I wonder what you said?
Also too, this.
Owen Groesser, a 7th-grader with Down Syndrome, got to play in the final basketball game of the season. Coach drew up two design three point shots for Owen. Here’s the result of the first one.
He made the second one as well.
I’m going to guess it’s this line (paraphrased)
*sniXXer* where the XX is actually GG.
Boxturtle (I found that photoshop QUITE humorous)
Yeah, I see what happened. Ve must be veddy careful viss the vords here.
Glad to make you smile.
I guess we should stick with *snort*.
All the inflammatory posts I’ve written, all the noise I’ve generated, and I get moderated for stifling a giggle.
Boxturtle (*grump*)
Good morning firepups.
Kids are coming in for social studies with me today(Yay)
Ill check back in for the comments.
You? Inflammatory? Not to my remembrance.
But, it’s totally understandable to me that certain words are on a list and get filtered.
I’ll tell ya, I wouldn’t like the job of moderating at FDL. A tough job.
It’s a good thing you’re not teaching English today.
Agreed. Eating and living indoors are important, but before I’d be mod I’d rather live under a bridge and eat fish heads.
Boxturtle (the cheek is supposed to be the best part of the fish)
I’m feeling a little under the weather this morning, so I’m going back to bed.
See yaz.
Thanks for the quick Save, Kris.
I am a terrible typist as well.(I’m on my sons laptop and am all fingers. :)
Here’s one of our neighbors!!!
Hee Hee. S’okay. What’s one missing apostrophe between friends?
Get well sonn ms demi.
shit . speaking of poor typing!
Get. Well. SOON! should say soon.
From WI Public Radio live:
Amy Binder, associate professor of sociology at the University of California- San Diego. She’s the co-author of, “Becoming Right: How Campuses Shape Young Conservatives.”
If you get the podcast later the first half hour is just the author, interesting points about campus organizations to indoctrinate/support students to a conservative viewpoint by. First caller is a conservative complaining about liberal professors.
WPR (WI Promoting Republicans)
Kris, just home, I don’t consider you jumping into the breech as a let down of anything. Thank you.
Thanks. It just feels like the beginning of a cold. And, it’s raining and will continue to rain for the next several days.
A little extra zinc and maybe some chickie soup later.
Went to bed with a headache last night. Might have been from the change in barometric pressure. Yes. I’m fragile.
PS I was hoping for a photo of your neighbor.
That’s too cool!
There are some pictures if you punch her up in the gazoogle.
I’m full of ‘em this morning.
Just did. Fascinating. It’s interesting to learn that they buried her so carefully and lovingly. Very civilized of them. And, 11,000 years ago!
Okay, really leaving now.
Thanks for everything everyone.
I’ve learned something new today, never heard of that.
Boxturtle (Wonder if I’ll remember it tomorrow…)
For those of you following the recent clothing developments here’s one that caught my eye. I’m hoping this one doesn’t become a necessity any time soon.
What you can learn tomorrow is how easily you forget things. So bonus!
Here she is
interestingly enough, researchers have recently translated the mysterious glyphs found in the grave:
“more ranch”
It’s automated, I think. Good morning from Indianapolis!
any chance there is bubble pack and peanuts lying about the shop today ??
I’m thinking I’d buy stock in that company. There are millions of people in Pakistan alone…
Boxturtle (Never mind Idaho)
Halibut cheeks are my favorite fish treat. Very mild and tender, look a bit like scallops. I always buy them when my Farmer’s Market fish vendor has them. They are YUM!
Post Office guy will do it for you.
Wow. Sorry to disappear like that firedogs.
Work is crazy right now. Booking flights for a global leadership summit coming up in Las Vegas. I’ve got 160-some people to book for.
HA! I see what you did there.
Try telling an Executive Vice President at a multinational corporation that he can’t spend more than $500 round trip on a domestic flight. Then try telling his 100-some colleagues the same thing. This is not fun.
S’ok Kris. You saved us this morning, so go do your paying job.
Good Morning
this morning’s bake: lemonade cupcakes – using the recipe I sent you – look how tall they are
why yes, I will do anything to avoid household chores, why do you ask ? :D
fyi – post office guy will charge me a small fortune the second he hears “perishable”
I like the phone pocket, though right now, I would want to know how it functions in conjunction with cold weather thermal clothing. ;^)
I’m trying to remember where I saw this and hope I am not repeating a prior post from you. Fish cheeks preheated.
Our travel office had a simple procedure. If you tried to violate travel policy, you got a canned email with a direct link to the policy in question and a direct link to the email of the executive who signed off on it. And a polite, helpful explanation of the process for getting an exemption.
Boxturtle (thinks they really enjoyed using the “Policy violation” function)
Japan will sell us pre-heated fish. We’ll sell them automatically igniting shrimp from the Gulf.
Boxturtle (And both governments will pretend they’re delicious)
Coldest town on earth.
Tough start for the day, KrisAinTX. What a way to startle the day!
I read they are fencing in teh ocean around the plant to prevent contaminated fish from leaving and being eaten by other fish up the food chain. I’m so reassured. Thanks Tepco.
The problem is I’m dealing with the executives who sign off on the policy. All of these guys and gals are VP level and above. From the President and CEO down to the VP level, the company is requiring that all bookings go through me this year.
Our company has an internal feedback process online that is tied to our performance ratings, which are then tied to our pay consideration at raise time in April
I asked them to turn off my feedback portal for the duration of this task.
That’ll work really well. Even see the size of a fish embryo?
What they’re trying to do is prevent catchable fish from leaving so they don’t get into a “good” catch and possibly force the catch to be dumped.
Boxturtle (Or force the government to relax exposure standards again)
Tell ‘em to write their own exemptions! When the budget gets busted, package ‘em up and give ‘em to the CEO.
Boxturtle (Just following policy, sir)
Those glowing shrimp light the sea from the floor below!!
The Japanese can use them to guide ships into shore. Heehee.
The comment threads at enenews are always scary and hard to read.
Ooooh. I will pass that along!
Perspective is appreciated Starbuck. Our 4°F is nearly gardening weather. Just put my thermal underwear away until it actually gets cold and I really need it. ;-)
We’re going to hit 80 today :)
IMO some of the posters at ene news are alarmists. It took me awhile to figure out who was who.
sickputer is a good source.
Boxturtle (It and simplyinfo are the best Fukushima sources out there)
The coldest recorded temp in Oregon was -50 in Seneca OR many years ago.
Not today.
Without actually being there, I would wonder about any outside news sources about such an enormous disaster. Sometimes the best isn’t good enough. So I withhold judgement and look to what I can do with what I can deal with locally.
Thanks Kris, nice to know what we have to look forward to. :)
And thanks again for hopping in to open the shop this morning.
Continuing a discussion from a week or so ago, I remember you saying you do omlettes in an iron pan. Is that a cast iron or sheet iron fry pan? Julia Child recommended a French sheet iron, properly seasoned which I purchased (a #24 omelet pan). It worked fine until someone grabbed it and fried a hamburger in it. She was right. It never did an omelet again!
I don’t see how a properly seasoned cast iron can be employed. Way too heavy for flipping and the seasoning encourages producing a fond, which requires food to stick.
Morning (just barely)firepups!Kris, I wouldn’t call that “not a post.” You did a fine job under pressure. Lotsa cool links here to follow.
Slime eels!
Leanderthal Lady! I wonder where she wound up? Suppose her location is now beneath a highway, since it was TXDOT that found her, no doubt while digging for a road.
How come, in all my years of reading recipes, I don’t recall ever hearing of “fond” until just recently, and now here it is again? Did it use to be called something else?
Rainy and damp here;cool inside, probably not very outside. Kittehs accepted petting after breakfast, then went to sleep, instead of playing or asking to go out. I stayed off ‘puter yesterday, and actually got some tasks accomplished. More to do today, so I will try to get off very soon.
Hope demi is getting some good sleep and feels better.
Hey, Kris – forgot to say, love your subtitle!
(and my sympathies on your work task for today. What fun for you!)
Cast iron is what I have. Maybe what I am calling an omelet is different than what you are doing. I flip the egg with a thin flexible spatula to cover the filling. I can jerk the pan back and forth with a short, quick motion, once or twice, keeping the omelet from sticking. I clean the pan with minimal water and coarse pickling salt as an abrasive, or a fine weave stainless scourer if need be. Dry with paper towel and wipe a fresh thin film of cooking oil and warm it in, between uses. The pan is seasoned but there is a almost no build up on the cast surface. Hope that helps.
You’re a doll. Took a sudafed and went out shopping to get Stuff to go with what I already had to make a Jumbo.
Already had chicken, celery, carrots. Bought a sausage and some shrimp. Stewed tomatoes, okra. Bottle of Merlot. I called it Okra Winfrey. Cooking and baking the rainy day away. After a nap, after stuff being chopped and like that.
We all sleep differently, that’s for sure. Just like everything else we do.
Thanks, Tejanarusa.
Bowl will be later for you.
Oh, and home made corn bread.
What a wonderful life you have!
Don’t be a stranger.
Gumbo!
I still haven’t sorted out who’s who, but reading the comments makes me want to drink arsenic.
Gumbo, not jumbo. Funny.
You’re sick, and doing all that work? Mmmm, cornbread, too. Yum.
Now, go on, take that nap and heal!
Today is killing little pieces of my soul.
Blech.
What do you do, anyway? Are you a travel agent or some such?
(((((Kris)))))
See?
No. It takes a fucking tornado, not that we have them here in Southern California to put me down.
Chopping and boiling and will lay down in a few.
Sonny makes the corn bread and he just got up a little bit ago. Still, he helped me varnish the rest of the LR floor yesterday and plant some stuff yesterday. I remembered CHS’s adding vegetable to the flowering plants in the ground. And, so I have flowers growing in between the lettuce and brocolli and cawliflower plants and The Mother is watering them.
Little bit more stirring and chopping and I’ll take a meandBrindle nap.
Love you guys and gals.
I manage travel for a multinational consulting firm.
Wow, Kris, our comments were almost the same.
Except for the okra. Ha.
I’ll prolly have a lot of leftovers. Wish
I lived closer.
Don’t you love it when you’re typing away and, bam, get taken to some other FDL page? Not complaining, not complaining. Squirrels.
