Momentum in the Texas Senate race has picked back up. A day after a new poll shows Noriega closing to within 7 points of Cornyn (even after 2 weeks of statewide Cornyn TV), news that Hillary Clinton will indeed be coming to McAllen for a fundraiser for the Noriega campaign.
Trail Blazers: Noriega’s camp just announced that Clinton will endorse Noriega, a five-term state representative, at an airport press conference in McAllen late this afternoon. The fundraiser will be tonight at the home of local builder Alonzo Cantu. Clinton ran strongly in South Texas in the March presidential primary.
Clinton won 72% of the vote in Hidalgo County where McAllen is located during the primary, one of her bases that piled up the popular vote for her. Noriega won just under 70% of the vote there as well, helping him to win the primary outright. Tonight’s fundraiser won’t appear in the latest quarter fundraising results so monies raised will be in addition to whatever is reported in the next week or so.
