Those disgusted with the gutter-standards of the health care debate face a bleak horizon, fought with the same misinformation tainted with racism. This taste of the nonsense-to-come comes compliments of our U.S. public wilderness liasons:

The U.S. Forest Service has apologized for suggesting that campers who eat tortillas, drink Tecate beer and play Spanish music may be armed marijuana growers, calling it "regrettable" and "insensitive."

A prominent Latino organization was ready to forgive, albeit with an equally absurd demonstration of logic:

Polly Baca, co-chair of the Colorado Latino Forum, said the meeting was productive and a good start on mending relations after the Forest Service has promised to conduct sensitivity training for its agents. "It was obvious the staff did not have the cultural awareness they need. Federal employees don’t often have the opportunity to be engaged in activities outside the home," she said.

Don’t get out much, do those federal employees? Nothing like refuting an unfair generalization with a similarly unfair generalization.

I look forward to that apocryphal day when our real news stories don’t read as if they were written for The Onion.
