For days now, we’ve heard McChrystalline champion requests for MORE TROOPS! MORE TROOPS!!!!
And we’ve read all the articles and analyses of these requests, and their rebuttals.
My personal opinion, we have no business BEING there, it’s costing us a fortunes daily, and we could save healthcare, create jobs in the homeland if we BROUGHT them all home NOW.
But hey, I’m preaching to the choir in here, I know. *G*
We’ve also heard of all the usual Pentagon Platitudes of not cutting and run, paving the way for democracy, killing them there so we don’t have to fight them here, and more.

Can we just call shit for what it is? A LOSING BUNCHA SHIT!
And NOW MacCrystalShip wants to DRAW BACK TROOPS from the bush (per se), into population centers?
What the fuck’s our policy, strategy, and GOAL over there?
We can all agree it’s NOT to save the Afghan Women from the Oppressive Muslim Taliban. Right, we CAN agree about that? Yes?
So, aside from the HUGE drug growing, distribution, and profiteering we’d like to control to deal weapons to others, MinderBender, Inc. like, what ELSE do we want?
Can we GET control over oil and gas development and distribution, any more than we can control the drug flow?
I don’t THINK so.
CERTAINLY not by drawing back into population centers.
The damned routes are in the OUTLANDS, the routes for proposed oil/gas pipelines go thru areas that CAN’T BE DEFENDED from insurgency. As go the routes for the DRUGS!
As was suggested elsewhere today (sorry, no linky) has the PRODUCTION and refinement of the drugs gotten to where WE don’t have to move the raw product anymore? Only move the refined herion? Eliminate the drug routes thru hostile turf?
I don’t know.
So, if drug flows are out (I still think we control the drug flow, at least to the west, to the east, as someone points out, it flows from/to Russian controls), and we can’t guard and protect and defend the proposed oil and gas pipelines and such, WHAT ARE WE DOING THERE!
And of course, why all of a sudden, are we advancing to the rear and leaving the hinterlands to the Taliban to rush into?
Just get us OUT of there, for cryin out loud, and MIC and Pentagon be damned for killing our soldiers in a losing case and wasting our tax dollars testing weapons and stragety.
Cuz it’s a FAIL! And we need the money here at home!
Your thoughts? Is this article correct? Can we think it’s a precursor to leaving?
Cuz it’s SURE a turnabout from troop requests and holding the hills on Taliban Turf.

Actually, McChrystal’s strategy makes sense. Pulling back to major population centers should make it easier to defend them. Right now, the Taliban can hit them almost at will. It’s also clear that all the stumbling around in the bush hasn’t solved the Taliban problem.
At least, it would have if we’d done it five years ago. I’m not sure anything will help now.
Cujo, my point is, this is an ABOUTFACE of McCrystalships previe policy, and recent request for more troops!
And if I was too subtle, MY take is this is the beginning of leaving.
A stunning and shocking development, AFAIC.
We’ll see if this drawback IS the lead up to leaving.
I sure WANT it to be.
Course, it COULD be we’ve got the opium supply and routes where we want them, and we don’t HAVE to be out there anymore. The shit’s hitting the population centers for refinement and shipping, and we might control it all.
Pure CIA ops, and there IS word recently the RAMP UP in place and being requested is ENABLER capacity, not fighting troops.

When the Afghan women made it clear they want the US out, it made me wonder what the heck we are doing over there to alienate a minority so mistreated by Taliban that they want US the U.S. away from them. Dear God. What horrors were perpetrated in our names? And the horrors and deaths of our soldiers.
And now MacCrystal is earnest about hearts and minds. Wasn’t he the terrorist general over there, the shock and awe violent one?
