I’ve not much to add, she’s a fine writer and analyst, her article is spot on and the truth is ugly as hayall.

NDAA is old news (and it merely codifies powers that Cheney and Obama already claimed the Prez had). Let’s talk HR 347 instead. “Freedom to peaceably assemble”? Not in this country, not any more.

Naomi does love her some moralizing, non? I do remember her saying that she would shut up if the fascist threat got to great, though. Yet,

Naomi’s got some vacuum to fill, comrade.
This NDAA gets into the press only with the statement that Obama promises he will not use this power while he is President, along with a note that some are worried about the next President and this power, and wonder why Obama wanted it passed.
There are no editorials against by our freedom protecting press, as far as I can see.
As a “minority” here in America, I ain’t going anywhere, other than to the Fort Alcatraz Penal Colony should the “establishment” get wind of what I’m writing in this posting. And most likely, this will via the 16 intelligence agencies at the federal level of government, and I’m excluding the local and state level efforts.
Regardless, for me, the Civil Rights Act of 1963 and the Voting Rights Act of 1964, laid the foundation for “who” and “what” I am today, and thusly, I haven’t changed one iota, but America has changed substantially, and all without my help. Or perhaps, I do have a tad of responsiblity for the “change” given that I am military vet and for having stood “on the wall” for a few years, and consequently, my fellow citizens enjoyed their Freedom and the Freedom permitted for “wrecking” America.
And yet, Naomi Wolf is “wrong”!
It’s easy to complain and whine about the sudden occurence of the NDAA and the “drones” but this political behavior commenced when the newly released Criminal Stupidity from the proverbial attic that has now become the “marriage” between the Kissing Cousins, or the Neo-cons and the Neo-libs, and which led to the elimination of the military draft.
So, spare me the traditional rant of the many while conveniently ignoring the elimination of the military draft. Therefore, when Wolf, Turley, and the civil libertarians, among others, ignore the history for the “empowerment of the Indivual” only then, will I get up off my duff and ‘rail and rant’ relative to the NDAA. Needless to say but I will, I will not call Naomi Wolf a “drone” but she can drone and drone on, but my ears have been worn down next to nothing from having listened to this droning for all these many years.
And from my perspective here in the Sonoran Desert, the majority of white Democrats joined the overwhelming majority of the Republicans, in support of Bush’s War of Choice. Therfore, when the “majority” of white Democrats come forward and complain about the NDAA, only then, will I commence to “re-hear” the wealth of complaint.
And for the Feds and their Hinterlands’ “listening posts,” file this posting under the usual, for being “ornery and cantankerous.”

Obviously, I am having too much fun here, so, I offer this follow-on post.
When Progressives begin advocating for our Academic-Military Draft, our National Surveillance State apparatus will conventiently fall apart, and with the remnants being quickly dismantled, and due to our national embarrassment for having harbored the overly amorous Criminal Stupids.

Not what I was expecting from FireBaggers. I understand Dayen et al have covered this in full depth, but still was taken and bemused with Mz. Wolf’s n Mr. Turley’s musings.
Jaango yer killin me . . . a draft is about as likely as either party renouncing corporate funding or renouncing military efforts abroad. N yep, I STILL want a pony with a horn on it’s head that shats rainbow glitter from its butt! ;-)
Easy solutions to us proggies but The System’s Machine ain’t geared that way, so on we trudge with less n less of what once was.

That National Surveillance State could not have gained traction, unless the mythology propigated by Condi Rice for the “mushroom clouds” wrapped itself around the fear-ridden hearts of the majority of our fellow citizens. Obviously, she was enjoying her private stash of mushrooms or she was flinging them at G.W. Bush in private.

Any attention that’s brought to bear on our National Surveillance State is not only warranted but should be considered imperative in our public discourse. What’s been wrought today, has yet to be hotly debated by the masses.
