His family declared it a "victory for the Iraqi people," his attorneys exclaimed that it indicated the "independence and the integrity of the Iraqi judiciary system." The Federal Appeals Court today cut Muntathar al Zeidi’s prison sentence from three years to one. His attorneys believe that, with time already served, he may be released in five months. Good news.

DIGG WAS OPEN when I got there. I recommended.
Thank you for this good news, Laura.
IMO, the Iraqi government should have wiped out all guilt and declared him a national hero. Maybe established the Order Of The Shoe to be awarded to all who speak truth to oppressive power.
The man most responsible for mass murder, torture, a multitude wounded, millions forced to emigrate (flee), etc., walks free of justice while a man who threw his shoes at that criminal is tried, oonvicted, jailed, and tortured for standing up to the biggest of those guilty of those crimes.
We are supposed to believe in ‘justice’??? /s
what he said.
dugg and recommended.
Good news; and well said.
I posted at the time he was sentenced that I thought he deserved a Medal of Freedom instead of prison time, but I like your Order of the Shoe better. Damn straight!
One year is better than three, but it’s still a crime that he’s served ANY time at all.
Great! And I notice nobody threw shoes at Obama today.
So where are the people who were saying that he was going to be imprisoned for decades? Or the folks talking about how he was going to be tortured by the puppet government?
I can’t think of a damn thing good about what we did in Iraq…….but the idea that this guy is going to get “time served” is interesting.
