The following are the final frightening remarks by Jeremy Scahill (author of BLACKWATER: THE RISE OF THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL MERCENARY ARMY) on a Bill Moyers Journal interview June 5th. He speaks of an eventual scenario, the way the Military Industrial Complex is evolving, whereby only corporations will wield private armies — militarized corporate/financial institutions wantonly and amorally preying on and devastating the lives of indigenous peoples, without even the cover of nationalistic and/or international law justification:
Well, I think that what we have seen happen, as a result of this incredible reliance on private military contractors, is that the United States has created a new system for waging war. Where you no longer have to depend exclusively on your own citizens to sign up for the military and say, "I believe in this war, so I’m willing to sign up and risk my life for it." You turn the entire world into your recruiting ground. You intricately link corporate profits to an escalation of warfare and make it profitable for companies to participate in your wars.
In the process of doing that you undermine U.S. democratic processes. And you also violate the sovereignty of other nations, ’cause you’re making their citizens in combatants in a war to which their country is not a party. I feel that the end game of all of this could well be the disintegration of the nation state apparatus in the world. And it could be replaced by a scenario where you have corporations with their own private armies. To me, that would be a devastating development. But it’s on. It’s happening on a micro level. And I fear it will start to happen on a much bigger scale.
Scahill reveals that there are 250 thousand contractors fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, 50% of the fighting force, and that Barack Obama is continuing the “privatization of war”, though Scahill admits Obama is doing more to implement accountability over contractors than the Bush regime. But there is a 23% increase in armed contractors under Obama in Iraq. And a 29% increase in Afghanistan.
He points out that the U.S. built a “colonial fortress” in Baghdad posing as an embassy, the size of 80 football fields, which will require massive security operation to continue to run. It will be maintained by mercenary contractors henceforth.
He goes on to ask that if Obama seriously means what he said in Cairo about wanting to leave Afghanistan, desiring to end the agony of war and bring our troops home, why is he allocating a billion dollars to build yet another fortress-like embassy similar to Baghdad in Islamabad, Pakistan? Mercenary forces once again will have to sustain this, guaranteeing our ongoing looming U.S. military presence.
Continuing to follow the troubling trail of money, Obama is spending $60 billion for Dubai contractors to expand the prison in Bagram at the same time he is intending to close the Guantanamo one. Hundreds of people to be held without habeas corpus, denied access to the Red Cross, in defiance of international law.
Mr. Scahill explains that increasingly the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are becoming wars of occupation, rather than ones aimed at fighting terrorism. To fight terrorism would be more of a law enforcement operation whereby criminals are tracked down for breaking the law and tried. The entire civilian population is not shocked and awed continuously by military threat and violence of the occupying country in such a case.
He mentions the troubling recent Senate confirmation, a seeming cake walk, of General Stanley McChrystal to become commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
Scahill:
If I might add about General McChrystal, what message does it send to the Afghan people when President Obama chooses a man who is alleged to have been one of the key figures running secret detention facilities in Iraq, and working on these extra judicial killing squads. Hunting down, quote unquote, insurgents, and killing them on behalf of the U.S. military. This is a man who’s also alleged to have been at the center of the cover-up of Pat Tillman’s death, who was killed by U.S. Army Rangers.
Scahill and Moyers also discuss one of the greatest corporate scandals of the past decade, how politically advantaged Halliburton, a corporation formerly headed by Vice President Dick Cheney, was allowed to grossly profiteer from U.S. foreign policy at the same time seriously endangering our troops. Halliburton’s KBR was the “premier” company to service the troops. It provided unclean water and shoddy electrical servicing in 1000s of buildings. The workmanship was so improper it actually caused the electrocution of some of our troops. Scahill points out the corporate media has given this scandal little attention.
Bill Moyers:
You recently wrote about how the Department of Defense paid the former Halliburton subsidiary KBR more than $80 million in bonuses for contracts to install what proved to be very defective electrical wiring in Iraq.
[snip]
Yeah. The Army hired a master electrician, I read, in some congressional testimony, to review electrical work in Iraq. He’s now told congress that KBR’s work in Iraq was, quote, "The most hazardous, worst quality work he’d ever seen." And that his own investigation, this is not a journalist, this is an employee of the Army, had found improper wiring in every building that KBR had wired in Iraq.
Moyers and Scahill go on to discuss the use of “drones” and how they are enraging the citizenries of all three countries, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Using drones, Scahill asserts, is killing civilians in an indiscriminate way. It is inhumane and creates enemies for the U.S. exponentially. Our U.S. corporate media rarely reports statistics of the deaths of civilians. According to Scahill, 687 Pakistani civilians have been killed since 2006 with robotic drones — in the first 99 days of this year over 100 people were killed.
Lara Logan (clip from CBS, 60 Minutes):
Right now, there are dozens of them [drones] over the skies of Iraq and Afghanistan. Hunting down insurgents every minute of every day. The fight for the pilot is on the video screen. Here a truck full of insurgents in Afghanistan is being tracked by the pilot. When the ground commander gives the order-he first, hitting his target. The trigger is pulled in Nevada. Inside these cramped single white trailers of small offices.
Scahill claims the professed accuracy of the drones by the Air Force is being passionately challenged by the outraged Middle Eastern citizenries.
I recently did an article about "Time" magazine’s coverage of this. They said that the Taliban are using civilians as human shields. And that’s why so many civilians have been killed. Their source for that was an Air Force intelligence officer who was allowed to speak on as though it was a Pentagon press release. I think that this is sick. Where you turn war, essentially, into a videogame that can be waged by people half a world away. What this does, these drones, is they it sanitizes war. It means that we increase the number of people that don’t have to see that war is hell on the ground. And it means that wars are going to be easier in the future because it’s not as tough of a sell.
We are indiscriminately killing civilians, according to the UN Human Rights Council. A report that was just released this week by the UN says that the United States is indiscriminately killing civilians in Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world. That should be a collective shame that we feel in this society. And yet we have people calling it the good war.
The "good war"? Well, Obama made clear in his eyes it is the "necessary" one. With the U.S. House passing the War Supplemental/IMF bill this week, our Democratic establishment has clearly defied the mandate of the American people to end the wrong-headed wars in the Middle East. Obama with a status quo Congress continues and enables the war machine to amorally and tragically continue its frightening escalation.
Instead of the collective shame Scahill calls for, our president, our congress, and most of the US citizenry are enablers of further acts of international inhumanity. Ralph Nader seems to have been correct. There is little difference between the traditional Republican and Democratic agendas. They are both corrupt and toxic to the common good of their own citizenry and the family of man and woman, in general.

Recommended. Libby, there is also being built in Afghanistan another 432 acre “embassy” named Camp Leatherneck. It’s located near the Iran border.
I’ll search and give link later.
In view of all you present, I wish our ‘war-meisters’ would look a bit farther down the road and try to foresee how all this hell can also be used against us (the citizens) in the same way. But, maybe that’s the idea…
Here’s the link to Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan. You can get a much wider selection on it by Google: Camp Leatherneck.
it’s a scary truth, libby.
Wigwam, drones are horrible, but look at this. How about a diary on it? (I’m not qualified)
So, for whom do progressives vote in 2012?
That’s the big, fat question quivering on the table.
“the United States has created a new system for waging war.”
Except of, course, it has done no such thing. Prior to the American and French Revolutions, mercenaries–foreign or domestic–were the norm, not the exception. They could be relied upon to hold the line against the citizenry, so they became the norm in the later Middle Ages, when mass feudal levies were no longer reliable defenders of the privileged aristocracy. The English Crown used significant numbers of German mercenaries–Hessians–against us in the Revolution.
Citizen armies, nation states, and the very idea of national (as opposed to personal) sovereignty all emerge as a consequence of our American and French democratic institutions.
So there is a broader issue here than war. The private armies, the supranational corporations themselves, the extraorindary expansion of property “rights” in recent decades, and the decline of unionism are all symptomatic of the rise of a new aristocracy, made up of the hyperwealthy. Money is power and vice versa. Corporations are answerable only to their CEOs, never to their investors. If investors attempt to pull out their capital, a client government recapitalizes them, ultimately by imposing taxes on an unwilling populace.
I strongly believe that the Republic will not survice unless we reform the tax system and focus it on leveling the economic and political field–if we still can. Estate taxes should essentially eliminate inheritance as a source of wealth in this country. Second, the income taxes should be severely progressive at the top end–top rates should be above 90%. Finally, we should institute a short-term national property tax to claw back excessive wealth accumulated in the last few decades.
Money is power, and a democracy that does not act against extra-democratic concentrations of power will not survive in the longterm. At some point, democratic government and free enterprise economics are only words. The economy stops, there is nothing left to buy, and even wealth loses its power. Then you have a revolution.
Thanks, ww, for this passage. Apparently under Bush there was a 30 civilian to 1 terrorist ratio of casualties (iirc), but now under Obama it has been pulled back to the single digit. How chilling. And the “human shield” factor that I am sure the Taliban does manipulate, but the “collateral damage” of these civilians is so wrongheaded. I keep thinking of that quote about insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.
Something about an air or woman in Nevada watching a screen and dropping the bomb from a drone onto a village that is, as Scahill points out, surreal, sanitized and video-gamey. They rely on “intelligence” but look how wrong the intelligence has been from the first rumor of “wmds”.
Thanks, acquarius.
In the discussion Scahill spoke of embassies in Iraq and then I thought Afghanistan. But then got specific about the new one for Islamabad. I was unsure about Afghanistan.
Can you believe the “embassy” in Baghdad is the size of 80 football fields? I walk by 1-building foreign embassies in NYC I thought looked a bit lavish. Our “embassies” are like small cities (gated-communities). So we leave an active footprint in a country, now the size of 80 football fields? Certainly gives the U.S. military base imperialism a whole new perspective. We have about 900 bases all over the world. Then consider the massive money to support these places, that we need back at home. And we certainly I can imagine re-culturize whatever locals are recruited to work there with a military culture which is unique from the beginning, very patriarchal and heirarchichal, and then having morphed into an even more enclosed and maybe paranoid one from all the sustained stress?
Thanks, Elliott. Seems to be yet one more fresh hell. The war machine has become so massive and dangerously profitable, the lobbies continue to work against human interests, peace. Money and power vs. human rights. And they say if all you have is a hammer (and the hammers are getting bigger and there are so many more of them and not just in government hands any more) all you see is a nail.
ART, I still keep hoping Obama is riding the tiger and is not inside of it. But these revelations and the behavior of our own Dems in Congress, really are despairing. Not to mention a press that colludes with corporate interests and also is being economically diminished and a shell-shocked economically citizenry that musters so little outrage or interest in what is actually going down. Our tax dollars are going toward destruction. And the money being spent on the embassies, is a contradiction to his words in Cairo and the supposed will to be withdrawing from the quagmire.
I know the Taliban, which we long ago empowered mightily over their help with Russia, has been ruthless and horrifying. But if we have lost the hearts and minds of the citizenry while trying to help protect them from the Taliban, something is terribly wrong.
This is haunting and brilliantly stated. Thanks, robspierre.
The multinational elites seem to be taking over the planet. Less and less identification with one’s own nation, or one’s own corporate “family”. And that flip over to the executives NOT being beholding to the will of the shareholders, though the mindset has always been as they have said the corporation as a “legal person” fits the psychological profile of “sociopath”. Self-aggrandizing and ruthless for bottom line profit. And with deregulations, the likelihood, the slippery slope into dehumanized self interest and self-aggrandizement has led to grotesque results. And a government that is so compromised and so many reps desensitized and disloyal to the struggling levels of the social family. Knee-jerk cries of “socialism”. Not even deserved, unfortunately. Populism doesn’t seem to have a prayer in this climate.
And yes, I remember in grade school hearing about the economic covert motives for wars. And the carpetbagging that went along with them. Even Arthur Miller’s play, All My Sons, reveals the greed on an individual level that refuses to heed the consequences of the war machine on humanity.
Acquarius, thanks for that additional info. They say there will be 68,000 troops in Afghanistan by the end of the year. And that issue about not enough “water” is certainly worrisome.
And how are the citizens of Afghanistan dealing with this new base-city, I wonder? We seem to be assuming these countries are US territories. Whose interests are we really there for? If not the welfare of our troops and the citizenries over there, this is a true inhumane nightmare of combinations of denial, exceptionalism, misuse of power, jingoism, collective sociopathology and/or greed.
Not a civilian versus Taliban or al Quaeda ratio. The death of 29 civilians can be approved by the commander on the ground. The death of 30 or more civilians must be approved by Gates. It is a war crime to intentionally target civilians.
There aren’t any plans to limit civilian casualties. There are plans to get to better at manipulating the reporting so that the numbers are hidden and the Taliban are blamed for the deaths.
************
“U.S. officials at a NATO conference in Brussels last Friday were telling reporters that “public relations” are now considered “crucial” to “turning the tide” in Afghanistan, according to an AFP story on Jun 12.
CENTCOM commander Gen. David Petraeus also referred to the importance of taking the propaganda offensive in a presentation to the pro-military think tank Centre for a New American Security (CNAS) Jun. 11. “When you’re dealing the press,” he said, “when you’re dealing the tribal leaders, when you’re dealing with host nations… you got to beat the bad guys to the headlines.”
The U.S. command in Afghanistan has already tried, in fact, to apply “information war” techniques in effort to control the narrative on the issue. The command has argued both that the Taliban were responsible for the massive civilians casualties in a U.S. airstrike on May 4 that killed 147 civilians, including 90 women and children, and that the number of civilian deaths claimed has been vastly exaggerated, despite detailed evidence from village residents supporting the casualty figures.
Col. Greg Julian, the command’s spokesman, said in late May that a “weapon-sight” video would show that the Taliban were to blame. However, Nancy A. Youssef reported Jun. 15 in McClatchy newspapers that the video in question shows that no one had checked to see if women and children were in the building before it was bombed, according to two U.S. military officials. “

Thanks, BB. $2,000 for a death, $1,000 for an injury. Isn’t that the appeasement for civilian casualties? Playing for headlines, not for the welfare of the civilians, hard enough, it seems. PR to be the top priority is pretty depressing.
The massive real estate the US bases are taking are a silent shock and awe.
Did you see where Hamas members radicalized to join Al-Q were said to attack the border of Gaza, was it yesterday or today? BB, do you have any info on that? Oy vey!!!! Dear God, that will stir it up, won’t it!
Folks, a new milestone in the Orwellian Adventure has been met, and the state of inescapable survailance from space, thanks again to Raytheon. Maybe it will have another space ‘accident’. But, the War Meisters would just build another, costing the taxpayers $$$billions more and endlessly feeding the Gluttons.
Does Obama never ask himself whether the America he is ensuring is the one he wants his two girls to inherit? The smart bombs and drones guided by ‘joy sticks’ were bad enough, but this thing is demonic.
A quick look didn’t show any Hamas and al-CIA-duh collaboration. Disbelieve 99% of what you ever hear attributed to al Qaeda. It is false information. The only thing I can remember hearing about was the fake spokesman (Adam Pearlman) who is part of the Pentagon psyops aka al Qaeda. Adam was babbling about al Qaeda aiding Hamas in his last video. He says a lot, but needs some acting lessons ’cause he does not read his scripts with any authority. He is so pathetic that the Jewish news is finally reporting that he is a Zionist and the grandson of a prominent JDL member. In his video he talks against Zionism and his grandfather…smoke and mirrors in an attempt to hang onto his lucrative acting job.

BB, Wow, what an enlightening article on DowningSt! So are we talking cronyism once again among the brass? CYA … and casualties crisis not taken care of?

You know, I think old fashioned communication, low tech as it is, might be a bottom line advantage for intelligence and save some serious money, let alone letting some legitimate privacy survive.
I saw about the Gaza border on World News on pbs earlier today but I didn’t catch all of it.
Total information awareness has been the goal for a long time and weaponized space is the final frontier to be conquered…Reagan’s Star Wars. The missle shield is not for defence and the world knows it. You will find easily that the pyramid and the eye on your one dollar bill is repeated frequently amongst government badges, official seals, business logos such as CBS, etc. NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means “a new order has begun.” The leaders of the US have long been demonic and has developed the most demonic weapons. Nobody else ever dropped atomic bombs to kill civilians. No other country has spent the the better part of the past two hundred years starting one war after another. The US is responsible for the death of hundreds of millions of humans starting with the slaughter of the American Indians and ending with…? Nope, no end in sight. The US is not a Christian nation; it is an Old Testament nation. Funny how God is always on the side of mass murderers as long as they are government mass murderers.
OK..will have to look some more.
You know, I don’t remember ever agreeing with Sen Hatch until today. I have to say that he stood up for his people. He told the story of the Feds coming in force to a small community in Utah, about 100 of them full stormtrooper gear and attitude. They were pursuing some smugglers of Indian artifacts. It terrified the entire area and has “turned the county against the government”. The doctor in the community had delivered nearly everybody in the area and all loved him. Shortly after the stormtroopers had been there the Doctor committed suicide.
I quickly dismissed the possibility that the doctor had been smuggling artifacts. So; why end his life? Well, here’s my take:
(I’m pretty far over the hill as some of you know). The America the good doctor had known, believed in, worked for, devoted his life to – gone. The Nazi jackboots had come. Obama had won, but change had not come. The promised Hope was a lie. He did not want to see or be a part of any more of it.
That’s my take. No, I’m not thinking of taking that route (yet). I hope I have the stubborn endurance to fight this criminal take-over and ruination of America to my last breath!
@BB, those names of the drones are Predator and Reaper… chilling… black humor … Hellfire is the name of something that was mentioned, too. (Re Gaza story … will google about.. maybe good it is not a big deal… maybe was discounted)
@Acquarius very poignant and sad. The power to intimidate is apparently seductive and addictive and puts order over law (justice) by a long shot.
Yeah, Blue, and ain’t it strange that “God” only speaks to the Head Honcho who orders the little people to go forth and slaughter or enslave all in a land and take it for their own.
Well, read the book, “Churchill’s Promised Land” by Michael Makovsky and you’ll know who gave them their Promised Land and why.
For over 70 years I was a strong supporter of the rights of the Jews to have a homeland, and full rights of a sovereign nation in which they could govern themselves – until Gaza. Then, the more I studied and learned, the more the illusions were stripped away. No, I don’t hate Jews, but I surely hate the assault, oppression and elitist attitude of those in Israel’s government who have turned their country into a hateful nation.
Like those names were something to boast about. That would be the Hellfire Missile. That’s about all I know about it except that it is a deliverer of mass death.
Here’s the wiki on the Hellfire Missile – sickening. There was a big row in Britain about one version of it in their arsenal. The UN had declared it brutal; so, they renamed it and described it as ‘enhanced’ (Lo, don’t they love that word!)
Many Jews in Israel don’t like the Zionists. And the Zionists don’t like them, either. You supported what you thought was the truth of Israel. And then along came the internet. Illusions shattered. The drive to take over Palestine began long before WW2. Hah! You will never take that route. You will rage against the machine until your last breath. Of that, I am 100% sure.
I can’t find any information..so..maybe just someone’s musings as opposed to a real event. Humour in death names..Orwell rolls over.
First, we all have to unite; Naderites, Green, etc.
I suggest Howard Dean, and would happily accept Russ Feingold.
We can do this. Yes, we can! :-)
Libby & Blue, here’s link to the probable story (Fox News, doncha know). Something about a roadside bomb planted in the path of Carter’s route, but cleared away when a 15 year old boy saw it and reported to police. Tried to blame it on Hamas. IMO, Israel’s falso flag attempt to kill Carter and blame it on Hamas. Israel loves those false flag ops.
The last person that Hamas would try to kill is Carter. Carter wants Hamas off of the terror list. Mossad has reasons to kill him, Hamas does not. One of the reasons is to keep Hamas on the terror list. Carter is Hamas’s most influential ally and I’m sure Mossad didn’t want words like this to go viral. Case closed..’g’. Thanks for finding that.

” “My primary feeling today is one of grief and despair and an element of anger when I see the destruction perpetrated against innocent people,” Carter said as he toured the impoverished territory.
“Tragically, the international community too often ignores the cries for help and the citizens of Palestine are treated more like animals than like human beings,” he said.
“The starving of 1.5 million human beings of the necessities of life — never before in history has a large community like this been savaged by bombs and missiles and then denied the means to repair itself,” Carter said at a UN school graduation ceremony in Gaza City.
“I have to hold back tears when I see the deliberate destruction that has been wracked against your people,” he said at a destroyed American school, saying it was “deliberately destroyed by bombs from F16s made in my country.” “

“The decades-old ability of Zionist groups to manage the public narrative of Israeli victimhood is breaking down. Damning critics has therefore become a key method of control.
But, writes Salon.com’s Glenn Greenwald, a leading Jewish-American blogger, “whereas these smear tactics once inspired fear in many people, now they just inspire pity. They no longer work.”
Many Jews in the Diaspora have never imagined anything else; it’s been an imagined Israel in their minds for decades. Lawless behavior in the occupied territories is ignored through willful ignorance. Tellingly, the most reliable information about these truths in the West is found online, through blogs and activist Web sites, and not generally in the mainstream media. The gate-keepers are clinging on to the Exodus myths for dear life.
Defining a humane Judaism in the 21st century means condemning the brutal military occupation in the West Bank and resisting the ongoing siege of Gaza.
Jewish-American blogger Phil Weiss, who recently returned from the Strip, quoted a young Gazan saying in dismay: “We are being experimented on.” “

Obama’s been desensitized by some minimalist spin doctor. And the rest of congress is run by interest ( corporate ) groups and think tank nazi’s.
We are a false flag war fighting nation run by dysfunctional cold war control freaks.
Yup.
“Knowing that there was precision guidance on the American-built bombs and missiles launched from F-16s and Apache helicopters, it was hard to understand why the large American School had been completely destroyed and several hospitals heavily damaged. The U.N. estimates that, in addition, 50,000 homes were completely wiped out or severely damaged. We saw the precise destruction of the assembly hall for the Palestinian parliament and other official buildings.
We were not surprised to get a warning from American officials in Jerusalem that I should leave Gaza immediately because my life was in imminent danger. I then spoke to the parents and 250 graduating students from UNRWA’s school and planted a beautiful tree given to us by Speaker Berri in Lebanon. We drove to another building where we had extensive meetings with Prime Minister Haniya and other government officials who are pleading for building materials and other supplies to be permitted to enter, either from Egypt or Israel. They propose that no money be sent and that any rebuilding be completely controlled by U.N. or other agencies not under their control. So far, after five months, not a sack of cement, a pane of glass, or a board of lumber has been approved by Israel. This amounts to continuing criminal abuse of 1½ million helpless people, condoned or ignored by the United States, Egypt, and the international community. “

The Druze and the Christians rioted in the Arab town of Shfaram in Israel on Tuesday. My religion is better than your religion sure does lead to a lot of human misery. I think that is what John Lennon was referring to in his song “Imagine” when he said, “and no religion, too”. No world peace until all religions stop fighting each other. That would sure be a first in human history…’g’. Some Druze became the Ba’athist Party in Syria and Iraq in 1963. Some are Israeli citizens, some aren’t. They are Arabs and they have five lawmakers in the current Knesset. It was selective which Arab parties were banned briefly from participating in the last election. Only the ones who spoke against the military attack against Gaza were banned. That is one heck of a divide between Arabs. Power corrupts. They will still be Arabs if Israel succeeds in denying full rights to non Jewish citizens. I suspect that isn’t going to work out so good. Israel and Palestine will have a one state solution within a generation if the Zionist government keeps on doing what it is doing. Imagine a secular society with equal rights for all religions. Peace is possible.

More on the ancient artifacts case in Utah can be found here in this San Juan County, Utah newspaper. That is the county in which most of those arrested resided. There are several links in the article which relate to different aspects of the case.
Dr. James D. Redd was the physician who committed suicide after being charged with one count. He was 60 years old, and several of the others arrested were over age 55. Back then kids were free to roam; what kid has not been drawn to “pretty rocks” and such items? Back then the attitude of “dirty Indians” also prevailed (remember the Saturday westerns at the movies?) I’m just saying there are many aspects of this situation that need to be considered before forming judgments.
Most, if not all were descendants of early settlers in the Four Corners Area (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, – forgot the 4th). IMO, there is a high probability that many of these artifacts were picked up by those early settlers and passed down through the generations. Whether these artifacts were found on public or private property seems to be the line between illegal or legal to possess and/or sell them.
No, I don’t approve of plundering these ancient artifacts or robbing the graves of these ancient peoples.
Nor do I approve of government’s license to Big Oil and Mining Corps to bring in giant earthmovers to deface the earth, no doubt destroying with utter abandon all in their path to capture that Money Source. Suppose any ancient artifacts were/are in their path?
Nor do I approve of scraping the tops off the oldest mountains in the world in West Virginia (or anywhere else). Suppose there were/are any ancient artifacts in/on those mountain tops in that area known to have been the habitat of large groups of Indians?
I guess if the government does it, it’s legal, huh? Sorta like that Nixon and his successors and their dictatorships.
Acquarius, relate to your history re sympathy to the Jewish plight. I keep wanting to go back there, so much empathy is deserved and you would think such a history of trauma would cultivate a forever empathy of the survivors to others remotely in their plight. I have read Eckhart Tolle’s last book where he talks about the “collective Ego” of a nation being in denial and running the show with its narrow denial and exceptionalism. He said that the hippies managed to break-thru that ego over Viet Nam though some citizens never forgave them, and are still rallying against that assault of their denial, kept that identification with the national ego.
It is alarming when the collective ego of a nation becomes so righteously religious, so nationalism and religiosity is enmeshed. When God is suddenly on the side of one nation, watch out! The righteous extremism when it collects enough followers. That struggle everywhere. What is happening in Israel. This country. They say Liberman speaks on behalf of the recent Russian Israeli settlers who maybe to feel they belong more strongly find scapegoating the Palestinians as outsiders to their emotional advantage. And the defensive bonding within the “tribes” of the Israelis and the Palestinians the more blood of individual families is shed. Forgiveness is harder to achieve. The horrifying unbalance of the military strength and power of Israel, and their use of such weaponry on defenseless people and the refusal of the US leadership to seriously acknowledge that and step in as a rational international leader, instead of a crony that stays commmitted to blind loyalty to Israel.
As for this country, the creeping power of theological identity. I remember years ago, a coworker who was always saying to coworkers, “Oh, I forget, you are not a Christian.” When people were confused and protested that they were, she would blithely say, “Oh no, you are not a REAL Christian. Have you accepted Jesus as your personal savior?” She refused to attribute the term “Christian” on anyone who was not HER kind of Christian. It was foreshadowing. And that grandiosity was so in one’s face. It was rare that people brought up religion at work but she kept it front and center as an ego grounding for herself apparently.
How people like Feingold illuminate the knee-jerk crony voting of so many others. His integrity continues to be an inspiration. What a small minority it seems the conscience-speakers in Congress are. And they are considered probably iconoclast renegades, bucking the status quo. That whole issue of cronyism keeps coming up for me as such a danger. We need tough love among the cronies, not codependent enabling.
Thanks, Acquarius for the story link. It was so in your face as a story on World News Tonight, is it called. Maybe being hopped up as anti-west propaganda. It said Hamas radicals thought Hamas was getting too mainstream and al-Q was inviting people to join. Scary situation.
It seems there is that slippery slope of desensitization, too. The longer participating in the “war games” human empathy becomes less and less a priority. Power breeds ego and disconnectedness to the reality of those at the bottom of the patriarchal food chain.
This so well said, BB. Appreciate your sensibility!
Thanks, Libby, for all the above comments and for all your input here at FDL. Wish there were a kajillion of you!
Acquarius, the feeling is mutual. Thank you! :) You and BB make me feel like such a lightweight with your commitments to exploring the full truth. I feel I need to make up for lost zombie-ostrich time in terms of reality — to catch up on the injustices prevailing so long and ever-deepening in my country and my world.
It is so empowering to share thoughts and responses here. To do reality checks with each other and pool our respective knowledge and insights.
Oh, we may be ragged and funny…..but we’ll travel the road, sharing our load – side by side. (keyboards should have music notes)
:)
BB and Acq: World Focus had the story about Hamas radicals becoming al-Q. Here was the show. Sorry, I got the name wrong.

Thanks, Libby. worldfocus is a new site for me. So far, so good; doesn’t seem biased.
Have a question: (left field type). For some time now I’ve noticed in pics of GWB that his nose is very red across the bridge – even the make-up for TV doesn’t cover it. I searched the consequences of cocaine use and that is one of them, destroys the blood veins in the nose. Have you or bb noticed that?
World Focus is a new show for me, too, on NY pbs ch. 21. Martin Savidge is the golden voiced narrator. Often uses Al Jazeera footage, and more international news.
GWB always filled the psychological profile of an addict. I assumed an alcoholic, dry drunk or not. Woodward said he was continuing to drink in his book about W. Did not look that closely at his nose but maybe will do some googling of pix. Always found it painful to listen to and watch Bush for any length of time.
Interesting what you picked up from his coloration. Good detective work. I wonder.
There is not a collective empathy because the majority of those in Israel who practise the Jewish religion in any of its forms are not survivors of, or descendants of survivors of, prison work camps in WW2. Lawyers have been charged with stealing funds that are donated to survivors and so has Ehud Olmert. Billions are scammed from countries around the world and it goes to line the pockets of the Zionists. Survivors are not treated well in Israel. To understand Israel you must understand that it is a Zionist creation that has almost zero to do with survivors. The takeover of Palestine was envisioned in the 1880’s. Rishon Lezion was founded in 1882 by Russian immigrants. Ben-Gurion, the first prime minister was a Russian. In the 1990s there was a massive wave of Russians who emigrated to Israel. I am going to leave you a link to a book that will explain much to you. A long read, but it is worth it. In the article below, it is said there are a quarter million survivors living in Israel. In 2008, the total population of Israel was seven and a half million. Numbers show that the majority of the Jews are neither survivors, nor descendants. They are immigrants. Many are converts to the Jewish religion.
The Jews had a homeland before stealing Palestinian land in the 20th century. It was in Birobidjan, Russia.

(2007)
“Pensioners’ rights group Ken Lazaken called Thursday for a boycott of official Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremonies to protest the government’s failure to sufficiently help the more than 70,000 Holocaust survivors who live in poverty in Israel. They were used as the ticket to officially get control of Palestinian land.
“People should not participate in ceremonies to remember the dead, when really we should be remembering and helping those who are still living,” Nathan Lavon, director of Ken Lazaken, said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post..
He said 35 percent of Israel’s estimated 250,000 Holocaust survivors live below the poverty line, according to a study conducted by the JDC-Brookdale Institute. Many of them have to choose on a daily basis between buying food and paying for other basic needs, he said. ”

New to me, too. The videos, like so many from American sites, will not play for me. Can’t give an opinion as to bias. EEEkkk..I can’t give an opinion..how disorienting..’g’. Bush has shown the alcoholism and cocaine snorting vein damage for many years. The video of him bragging about his library has closeup shots. He has so much makeup plastered on that you could cut it with a knife.

Look at the pictures of Bush when he was drunk at the Olympics. His red veins show in the picture with the Chinese president.

BB, thanks so for the background. It horrifies. I will check your sites when I get the chance. Thank you.
Looks like biscuit dough that has too much liquid in it.
Had not seen all those pics. The people around him are interesting to study. Ms. Stepford Wife with that pasted-on smile no matter what her obnoxious husband does. The daughter looks like she wishes she were someone else.
Saw a clip/interview with Miz Laura some time back. Talking about George’s going to bed early. She said by 9:30 he’s in bed and she watches “Desperate Housewives” alone. What a desert of mediocrity. They should name his library “Dullard’s Disgrace”.
I think George’s compulsive, overpowering need to be the center of attention will result in some disastrous performance on his part before too much longer. Point the finger at Cheney and load all his sins on him. Poppy has the same affliction – gonna bail out of a plane on his 85th/86th?? (”Watch me, Mama, I’m still the Big Hero of WWII).
He’s still in denial that thinking people world-wide just wish he’d disappear down that rabbit hole and never emerge again.
There’s a pic of GWB, Cheney and Rummy in a hall way, apparently just leaving some get-together. A study of the faces is very revealing. Makes me think they had just watched some of the torture tapes. Bush’s usually beady eyes are wide open and aroused; Cheney has smile of satisfaction; Rummy looks like he is in some personal Hell. It’s at one of Amy Goodman’s shows. I’ll find link.
Can’t find the pic. Sorry.
Good description. The saying about a picture being worth a 1,000 words is often proved true by examples like the Olympic pictures. Georgie might have disappeared by 9:30, but I doubt that it was to sleep. Remember the pretzel incident when he supposedly choked and fell down smashing his face? Pretzels and beer go together. He was pictured drinking low alcohol beer with Merkle in Germany and then he had the ‘flu’ the next morning. Missed his meetings he did. We really didn’t see much of him, although it seemed otherwise. On most days when he appeared for a rose garden speech in the morning, he was not seen for the rest of the day.
Not to worry..you’re probably correct judging by your description of the picture.
Yeah, and the day Miz Laura gave the speech for him. Can’t remember what the excuse was (or if one was given). Wonder if Cheney locked him out of the room with the red phone?
A drunk or a dopehead is very unpredictable. A drunk, doped out psychopath is a loose cannon. What will he do for his high now that he can’t feel all-powerful by ordering more bombs and slaughter, then watching the horror and torture episodes? Probably something beyond the imagination of normal people.
Maybe re-watching his collection of torture tapes will keep him amused? Seriously, he must have hundreds, if not thousands of them. I can’t remember who, but someone stated that he got his marching orders from Bush. He had to travel from Guantanamo once a week to personally give Bush a report. I don’t doubt that personal report included tapes of torture. I do doubt that the CIA tapes were all destroyed. Nope..one does not destroy tapes that provide either protection or blackmail opportunities. Rice travelled constantly to black sites around the world. I’m sure she has an extensive collection to share with him. Abu Ghraib, Bagram, etc. would have supplied hundreds for him, too. Now that black ops are official US policy, the CIA and the DOD can keep him supplied with new tapes.
Cheney is many things, but stupid is not one of them. Bush never had access to the suitcase with the codes that would enable a nuclear attack to happen. Not a chance. Seeing the ghost of Lincoln and others, in 1992, was a sign that he was already hallucinating from the brain damage that he has from his years of alcoholism and drug use. His conversations with god while president were also indicators. Anyone else would have done time in a psychiatric facility. God told me to do it is not accepted as a valid defense in a courtroom. Crying was another sign that he had lost control of his emotional centre ie brain damage. His ego was stroked and he was manipulated to think that he was the Decider. No, he did and said what his handlers wanted him to do and say. Bush still is controlled because he only answers pre-screened questions. He’s on a leash and you can be sure that he will stay on one.

“President George W. Bush is prone to bouts of crying caused by the stress of his job and claims to have seen ghosts emerge from the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House, according to a new book on his presidency.
Perhaps the oddest revelation is an episode from 1992, when his father was still president and he was visiting the White House.
Bush found the White House a “creepy place,” Draper writes. After exercising in a White House gym one evening, Bush has told a friend he froze in his steps while approaching the Lincoln Bedroom.
Bush insists “he saw ghosts — coming out of the wall,” according to a friend. “

This was the official story, but unlikely to be the real one. It is thought by many that he bailed out and let his crew die.

” Two militants’ leaders who defected from notorious Taliban chief in Pakistan have revealed that their comrade was pursuing a US-Israeli agenda across the country.
A prominent militant leader, Turkistan Bittani, who broke away from Baitullah Mehsud, called him “an American agent”.
Another defector, Qari Zainuddin, said that Mehsud had established strong links with Israeli intelligence services which were destabilizing the nuclear armed country. “These people (Mehsud and his men) are working against Islam.” “

W. Bush’s father had bouts of uncontrollable crying, too, didn’t he, as he aged? I had heard that troubling story about the father bailing from the plane when someone was still in it. Wonder if that has something to do with the yearly birthday jump?
Maybe his jumps are meant to defy death? Who knows what lurks in the mind of aging evil people. I don’t think the jumps are yearly, though. Too lazy to check..’g’. Yes, he does lose control and cry. The first time I know of is when he had to acknowledge that Jeb couldn’t run for president in 2008. That was a bullet dodged. One that will need to be dodged again in 2012. Look at the nightmare the addict released on the world; someone needs to save us from the smart one getting the presidency. My link will further explain the situation in Israel. When religion is used to promote this kind of filth, Lennon had it right.

How sly of the US government. Some of the Guantanamo prisoners are saying “we won’t go” and this is why.

“Palau has no Muslim community, and the majority of residents are Roman Catholic. Mr. Clarke said his clients are particularly concerned about the legal status they would hold on Palau, and whether they could obtain documentation such as a passport.
“You cannot be a Palauan citizen unless you have Palauan blood. That’s just the way their constitution is written,” he said. Palau hasn’t ratified the international refugee conventions that allow countries to issue travel documents to refugees. “

Bluebutterfly and Libby, thanks for all these last comments. Things I didn’t know (the seeing ghosts stuff). There’s a lot of ugly on the Bush side of the blanket, but have you’ll read of Allister Crowley on Miz Barbara’s side? Just look at the pic of him and compare with her. Of course, she claims the name Pierce, which may be true. just sayin’
May not have much time today for this, got a water leak and my son will be here to repair it.
Bush family history is a lie, also. Have to figure out where the heck the site I want is on that one. All tied in with Tesla, etc. Barbara, Crowley, the occult and evil..oh yah..it all fits. Hope the leak is fixed easily and inexpensively. See you later…
CIA created the Taliban back when they were fighting the Russians. In thinking about all that is presented to us to believe, I first think, “What is the opposite of that?” Along that line, I wonder if the Obama vs Cheney Show is more of the same…Sen. Graham has a strong influence on Obama, does he get his orders from Cheney and Cheney’s handlers in CIA? The goal is perpetual war and perpetual need for $$$$$ produced by weapons sales, which we chumps pay for. Saw a pic of a massive pile of shells and ammunition, rockets and such, in Afhanistan which was to be blown up. Seems it became outdated before they had a chance to rain it down on the old women and children. Way back I saw a list of costs of weapons; one rocket shell was $33.00.
Did you’ll see Bill Moyers last night? Those women in Ghana won in stopping those wars. Maybe it’s time for a world-wide Mothers and Children’s March and Sit-Down, blocking the entry/exits to whitehouse and the Hill buildings. How would Obama’s stormtroopers treat a mob of sitting women and children?
Blue, I Googled Bush,Tesla and found this link. There’s lots to read and think about. I’ve read a lot on Operation Paperclip, so have some idea of that move of the Nazi scientists and spies to America. More gifts from Allan Dulles and his interpreter, Henry Kissinger (America’s most notorious mass murderer).
This has good history on Bush 1 and the CIA. Just click on the Bush family. I did it this way so that you could see the other video choices. The second link is Kissinger threatening regime change in Iran.

Blue, found this link on the Bush/Tesla subject. Mindblowing, and excellent documentation. Not tin-hat at all. I’ve studied the founding of the Federal Reserve and the Jeckyll Island, GA history and the intermarriage of those banksters.
You’re way ahead of me on this, but it sounds much like what my daughter (tx49holdem) has been trying to tell me for a long time. As usual, my slow-learning ways take time to absorb info that is so contrary to what we were fed.
Thanks again for all your pathfinding and marking our way.
Funded, but I don’t think created. Al Qaeda they created. Osama was a CIA asset known as Tim Osman when he was in the US. No, I didn’t see Moyers. The way things are going I’d say the women would be tear gassed and/or arrested. They would have to fight to get their children back from wherever the government lawyers placed them. It would not be pretty. During the RNC, men, women, and children were subjected to tear gas. So much concern over Iran from the phoney MSM. They never had that concern over stolen elections in the US. Never a concern over peaceful protesters being tear gassed and hit with batons in the US. Never a concern that the right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed by the Constitution, but the people are denied it. Outrage over the loss of civil rights in America they are silent about. Right now Rockefeller has that Cyber Security Act that would give Obama the power to shut down the internet. One day the Iranians might be setting up proxy sites for Americans. Brace yourself..this crapo is nothing more than a softening up of Americans to make an attack on Iran a popular cause. MSM is demonizing Iran just like they did to Iraq.
That is the site I was thinking of looking for before I got distracted here. Keep that one to yourself..ie..no diaries..no mention elsewhere of information contained there. There is a red line; do not cross it.
A 15 minute audio. An amazing career this lady has had. She is not planning on retiring; going to die with her boots on she says. Too bad all of the White House press corp doesn’t have her ethics.
