On Monday night we are going DIY, new-tech and meta in a huge way. Our movie, Camp Casserole directed by Anthony Pedone, is a documentary about the making of Casserole Club, a feature length narrative which
focuses on a group of mod 1960′s era suburban housewives. Close-knit and neighborly, they are all bent on one-upping each other, trying to prove that each is “the hostess with the mostess.”…Set in America during the NASA moonwalk, the moon is a metaphor for the film’s tragic heroines, who are filled with mystery, secrets and the untapped potential of people who exist without really living.
Camp Casserole takes us on a busman’s holiday, a working vacation to Palm Springs where Casserole Club director Steve Balderson rents two houses and put the cast and crew together in a live/work environment which spawns even more creativity, as Jane Wiedlin and Pleasant Gehman write and direct commercials about Pyrex for fun. Like Cassavetes and other auteurs, Balderson has built up a creative group who mesh seamlessly. We learn how an indie cast and crew work in a DIY environment; and as the shoot draws to an end, they reflect on the state of filmmaking and creativity in the 21st century.
And now for the really high tech part: On Monday night, Anthony will be screening Camp Casserole at the 2012 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival during Movie Night, and is inviting the audience to jump in the FDL on-line discussion while the film is running and after during the Q&A. He’ll be participating from the theater while interacting with audience members and our readers.
