When Bruce Cockburn’s song "If I Had A Rocket Launcher" was released in 1984, he explained the feelings behind the song. Cockburn had been in Nicaragua in 1984 during the time of the fighting between the Sandanistas and the Contras; he and others were there as part of a relief effort, and the death, devastation, and destruction he saw enraged him—producing the song "If I Had A Rocket Launcher". Being a peaceful man and one who abhors violence and war, it was an unusual song, but it reflected the feelings of anyone of conscience who sees the results of evil.
I don’t pretend to be a peaceful soul, but I prefer life without war, violence, and evil. I’m much happier without conflict and rage. Like Cockburn, the more I see of the evil and hatred being spewed from the right-wing dickheads in government and the media, the more I wish I had a rocket launcher. Despite the fact that I am enraged by these liars and their eagerness to foment hate, it seems insane of me to want to blow them all up. It’s wishing the same evil on them that I despise in others. Yet, when I hear the unrelentinggarbage that is vomited out of the mouths of O’Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, and their minions—it makes me wish someone would take up arms and shoot them. Which, if I am going to be honest, is insane thinking.
Lefties don’t pick up arms and go off on shooting sprees. We don’t barge into churches and kill Republicans. You don’t see lefties marching in front of doctors’ offices screaming "Murderer!" at the patients coming to be treated there. The guy who murdered his two young sons and wife in downstate Illinois—that guy was a right-wing "Christian" working for some female evangelist. The eighty-eight year old sonuvabitch that murdered a guard at the Holocaust Museum in DC? A right-winger. The cocksucker that walked into a Unitarian church in Tennessee and murdered two people, wounding six others—another right-wing bastard who closely followed TA DA! Hannity, Savage, and O’Reilly. David Adkinson’s reason for shooting in a church? Why…he hates liberals. He was only doing what his media mentors were preaching.
Yeah…I know it’s wrong. I know I should be better than them. I know I should spend more time trying to figure out how to help folks instead of being enraged at these neo-con slimeballs. And, I’m going to try to spend more time doing things to help folks.
But, if I had a rocket launcher…

You are going to need more than “a rocket launcher”, you are going to need many.
Right back at ya, MadCabbieJan, on what you’re saying. The obstructionists act like petulant children.
They are a mission. Their mission is not to help the President help this country. They don’t care about this country and never have. If they did, this country wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in. Their mission is to further the Republican cause which is 2012 and to diminish Obama and the Democrats every chance they get. They are consumed by this , selfishly, obstructing every chance they get. Think of all the valuable energy that is expended having to deal with their delays, obstructions and runnings-of-the-mouth.
That’s valuable energy that could have been used to deal with the crucial tasks at hand.
The U.S.’s problems go back many, many years. The Republicans never made the world a better place for everybody. And they’ve had their chances and time in power.I’m sure they didn’t mind the tax code just the way it was, as they probably didn’t mind the lobbyists, either.
When Al Gore so-called lost the Presidency, he objected a bit because of the polling problems then graciously conceded. This Franken/Coleman thing has been wild-Coleman fighting this thing tooth and nail.
My mission-to spread the good word about Obama whenever and wherever I can. Check out my comments on: http://twitter.com/TaylorB57. Also, check out: http://andrewsullivan.theatlan…..ed-1.html. Power to the People and Amen.
Hi, those are valid links that I left in my last post but for some reason when you click them from within the post, it doesn’t work. It should take you there if you input it in the address field. I’m not too proficient about creating links or knowing everything about them. Sorry.
