I about choked when Camille Paglia published an op-ed declaring Sarah Palin a feminist. Now I’m ready to start choking a few people—Amy Siskind and the other women behind the faux-feminist organization, "The New Agenda". ( www.thenewagenda.com )
According to Siskind, David Letterman is a cad, a mysogynist, and a woman-hater (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amy-siskind/sexism-against-conservati_b_214248.html) If you go to www.thenewagenda.com (Siskind’s ‘feminist’ organization), the comments you see posted there reflect the worst of the neo-con right’s assertions about Letterman. It’s vintage Hannity disguised as courageous feminist rhetoric. Bullshit.
Amy Siskind, Sarah Palin, and the rest of these fakeass feminists don’t have a clue what it is to grow up female in a male-dominated world. They don’t know what mysogyny looks like. Let me explain it to them:
Mysogyny is having some drunken puke in a bar yell at you and call you an ugly dyke because you had the temerity to rebuff his advances. Mysogyny is a carload of loaded college boys referring to women as "stupid pussies". Mysogyny is rap videos with scantily clad women who are addressed as "bitches" and "hos". Mysogyny is listening to men telling jokes about screwing young girls, while you—a young girl—tries to put their food plates down in front of them, resisting the urge to shove the plates in their faces. Mysogyny is Newt Gingrich saying that women shouldn’t fight in wars because they might get vaginal infections in the ditches. Mysogyny is John McCain joking that Chelsea Clinton is ugly because Janet Reno is her father.
So, who do these fake feminists choose to attack? David Letterman, a talk-show host and comic. Why? Because he made a dumb joke. It’s was no dumber a joke than the one Jay Leno made about Sarah Palin’s offspring (Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it. — "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08). It’s not even as bad as the one Conan O’Brien made about Bristol Palin, a hockey reference to her not being able to "protect the crease". David Letterman—the guy who didn’t want to prosecute Margaret Ray, the poor, mentally sick woman who kept breaking into his home. Not only didn’t he want to prosecute her, but he wanted to help her get psychiatric care and expressed sympathy when she took her own life in 1998. This is the guy the neo-con "feminists" think should be fired?
Palin, who referred to Barack Obama as "Sambo" during her political campaign, and who also called Hillary Clinton a "bitch", should crawl back into her hole with her putrid family and stay there. She isn’t some feminist icon nor paragon of motherhood. She’s a hypocritical, lying, cheating, whiny, publicity-hungry, egotistical borderline personality who needs to shut the hell up.
David Letterman—I love you. You’re a good guy. Don’t let the bastards get you down.

Oh, well. I tried.
In case anyone actually reads this, I have an addendum:
When it was demanded of me to name my sources for the Palin quote (”So, Sambo beat the bitch.”) on The New Agenda’s website, they barred me from posting. I offer this as further evidence that these people are not what they appear to be preaching.
Randi Rhodes had a caller from Alaska today saying this made progressives up there crazy because Palin has hired and defended a man in her government who had said worse about all women, that marriage is a license to rape. NO, they are not what they are preaching. Never. Palin’s the one talking about statutory rape. Palin’s a fake, a very dangerous fake.
Dave’s an incredibly decent and thoughtful and often sweet guy. He said he checked on the 18-year-old’s age before going to air with the joke. The fella knows how to deliver a real and authentic apology. They didn’t count on that. They don’t *get* that. His fans love him all the more for it. And talk about enlightened: ”my intent doesn’t matter.” He couldn’t abuse a flea. I wish I could find a man like that around these parts.
This is payback for embarrassing McCain during the campaign. McCain deserved it. Dave probably didn’t realize how much trouble he caused them in October until this week.
Go Dave.
Thanks for this cathartic read!
I am not as Dave-loving as you, but feel he has mellowed over the years, and maybe I am more defensive with the stand-up women bashing, but I agree about the “faux-outrage” in the name of women, and the clear opportunism of Palin. Bang the drum loudly and the lemmings will line up.
Rush Limbaugh was actually blaming the health care crisis on people who exercise a lot and go to the gym. They pulled muscles and went to hospitals and were causing healthcare costs to skyrocket. Oy vey. Talk about extreme truthiness.
I am glad Dave apologized though media titillation prevails. And Palin so clearly born for the stage/spotlight, like an addiction.
