At what point do you think Obama will realize he doesn’t have a second term?

Not until either he gets defeated in the 2012 Dem primary or in the general election.
Obama is secure in two things:
a) His own personal arrogance.
b) His belief that all the voters except the hard-right types have nowhere else to go and will, however reluctantly, come out to vote for him (the Great One) rather than see a Palin, Pawlenty, Romney, etc., in the WH.
Personally, I’d love to see Jane Hamsher run in the primaries and win, but I don’t think that card is in the deck.
Begin the Draft Jane movement. But seriously, I really do think that by 2011, his popularity will be low enough to warrant someone challenging him. What’s left of the Dems after 2010 won’t want to take the chance of a weak Dem president losing to Mitt Romney.
I want Obama in power to choose the next supreme ct. justices. He can lose the house or senate so he doesn’t have cart blanche imperial power. Thinking there is going to be a democratic primary against a sitting Dem president is magical thinking.
I guess in the end that’s the way I’d have to go, too. But I don’t even trust the the Big O to nominate good people for SCOTUS. So it will be a choice between possibly decent judicial nominees and certainly gruesome nominees. That will probably work for me but I don’t see it as a rallying cry for the base and independents.
Do you think, after the 2010 elections, that Obama will be able to get even a true moderate justice confirmed? Even if the Democrats keep the Senate, his own party, what’s left of it, will go ape-shit.
And if the GOP takes over the Senate, well, your nightmare is probably as good as mine.
I agree. Unfortunately, after the upcoming November elections, it’ll be too late for him to correct course. Oh well…
I’d really love to see someone viable primary him.
One scenario is he’ll step down and collect his $1.5M / year federal pension and his state pension.
The money he can make now as King Of The Universe – the Kingmaker of stocks (especially Military-related), the bestower of billions in funding. Like Dumbass Dubya, but smarter, Obama can buy long or sell short through Shadow representatives we shall never discover. He’s a multi-millionaire, already.
If the economy stays the way it is he’s toast no matter what he does,
If you believe the official government monthly jobs report, no jobs have been created since he took office. Every month has been losses (tens of thousands).
At this rate he’ll surpass Hoover and Bush.
