Greetings and welcome to the very last Pull Up Your Cat…of 2012 that is. I guess I’m going to continue this for a while, primarily as a place for people to gather but also in the fond memory of Richard, aka SouthernDragon. People seem to enjoy it and find value in it and that’s really all I care about
Last week, if you remember, I’d been ill and I remained feeling pretty bad all week, though I didn’t take any more days off. I even got back on the bicycle on Wednesday and Thursday but by Friday, I felt like I was relapsing into flu. Hot, achey, scratchy throat, the whole enchilada so I took another break from my exercise routine. All of this has a way of upsetting poor Kuroneko. Between the change in routine due to holidays, the change in my behavior due to illness, she wasn’t faring too well herself in the middle of the week. On Saturday morning, I found the final cause of her mopey behavior in the form of an enormous hairball, hacked up on the kitchen floor. By yesterday evening, she was charging around the place with her back arched and her tail straight up in the air again. If I could get her to do that on command, I could rent her out as a Halloween cat. I try to photograph her doing that but it’s impossible to capture her. Oh well, someday I’m bound to get lucky but in the meanwhile, I’ll have to settle for being entertained with her antics. And with that cheesy segue into this week’s pictures, let’s have a look!
This Kuroneko picture of the week wasn’t taken this week.
It’s an older picture I settled on when none of the ones I
tried to take of her running around like a furry, black Banshee
turned out. Here she is, resting under my desk and showing
off her white patches.
Obligatory cute kitten picture of the week: Who can resist these three cuties in a kitteh
hammock? via I Can Has Cheeburger?
Frustrated momma cat tries to corral her offspring who have found the way out!
LMAO! Bonus video. This cat REALLY doesn’t like getting shots! Even wearing welding gloves doesn’t allow that assistant to handle this handful safely.
That’s it for this week. Feel free to visit, converse or pull up your cat, (dog, ferret, mouse, etc). I hope everybody has a great week ahead but please remember to set aside some time to spend with the animals who share your life.

Have at it caturfolk!
Thanks, Margaret, here there are two new cats, discovering that afternoon sunbathing is available from the two huge front windows. They are fans.
Dweeeb.

Goood morning, Peg! And lurking Caturfolk!
speaking of our feline overlords, mine are ready to play, and want their staff of one to manipulate the string-type toys, not type on the keyboard.
How’s everyone? Peg, I’m so sorry to hear you were sick again. Poor Neko, her own staff migh have neglected her….she must have been worried.
Hi Margaret, sorry to hear about the relapse, but I hope that you are feeling better now.
Dweeb is his name? Is that the same visiting cat you posted at OverEasy the other day? (I was able to skim most days while at my mother’s, but not comment much. Keeping the connection was tough in the apartment.)
He does look pleased, doesn’t he?
The same, and I’m trying to get the other cat, Drusilla, as she basks in the sun. So far, not at the right place, right time yet.
I’m only seeing the big, black one. Beautiful cat though! Thanks.
Feeling better now, yep. Thanks. Probably going to try to get back on the bike today.
Looks like your master. Working on no. 2.
Yeah, I’m sure that was part of it. She’s very empathic though it seems to me.
That’s good to hear! :-)
oh my laird that kitten down the slide is adorable!
i want a scientific study done. it’s time we establish once and for all that the true path to world peace is mandatory exchange of kitten pics between all nations. military forces all over the globe could be halted, instantly, by constant projection of them over the battlefield.
I think that would definitely make killing much harder. Everybody loves cute kittens. Hi cd!
GM, Margaret and all. I am trying to think of which one of my cats was a screamer like that one at the vet. Prolly not just one, but I had one that sounded exactly like that. I think Maybelline could scream like that when she didn’t want to do something I did want her to do. It makes me sad to think of her. I also love the slide vid, very cute, good catches all today, M.
I meanwhile now see Adorable Boy 4x a week, as I have picked up one more day of feeding the colony. He lets me pet him, but he’s wary, and he does not want to be picked up. There are 4 cats there that will allow me to touch them, one was definitely feral and has become domesticated. The others prolly were dumped there, including AB and his sister.
It’s a kind of dreary day here today. I have the cat plate in the dishwater, and the cats are waiting patiently for their breakfast. I am driving later to take a friend to visit someone we know in the hospital in SF, tragic situation. Then I will be at LM’s overnight to do some paperwork and payroll. Back tomorrow, I think.
I’m back from my weekly grocery run and just finished changing fresh water in two locations and making some noise dropping a tiny bit of kibble in two different locations so that Mcat was satisfied and relaxed now that everything looked as it should and without eating or drinking, she almost immediately went feet up and snoring in her chair. I could take a duplicate of this picture just about any day of the week during winter.
The markings of the fur above the eyes (which are similar for many cats of this type) remind me of a pair of eyes that are always open if you squint at the photo just so. Same kind of markings on the reverse of a tiger’s ears, iirc. Genetic self preservation mechanism?
cd, I totally vote for your idea, better than Bushmaster any day! Go cute kittens.
Here’s a new one. ‘Neko seems to think there is something worthy of her attention in the closet.
Promethean.
Caturday! morning firecats
Now that is a comfortable kitteh.
Hi Barb! Don’t work too hard.
Hard to believe vet cat could be mild mannered house cat at home, handsome fella tho
I notice at the end the
ownerservant of the cat opted out of the chip implantation. The Vet was willing to try but he didn’t sound very confident.Sunday morning classical music in the background, that is her usual pose. She actually snores less that way than when sleeping with her feet tucked beneath her.
This had me lmao
Oh, I missed that part. I have not been a huge fan of chipping, but I have to say some of the rescue stories make it quite compelling.
I dreamed I took the cats to a construction site, they went down the stairs into the basement and got left behind, then I missed my connection to take my friend to SF b/c I had to go back to try to get them, what a disaster. I guess I should feed the little darlings.
how do you resist the need to administer belly rubs
When she’s sleeping she isn’t demanding something.
Ah, I see the conversation has gotten going. Been trying to play with charged-up kittehs and upload a couple of pix to flickr of my guys.
I made a real effort to get these mature kittehs (8 years old now!) up and moving earlier this month, and it seems to have worked. Found toys all over the place when I arrived home Friday, and they have been energetic after breakfast yesterday and today. This is good; they were getting too lazy.
Haven’t been able to watch the vids yet because uploading …except the little one Elliott linked to. The dialogue is perfect; I’ve had a couple of those instances. Once it was a kitteh who loved to run down the hall and leap into the empty bathtub…except this time it was full of water! Surprise! If he could have spoken English, that’s what he would have said.
Happy New Year Margaret!
Morning Margaret & KittehPups:
The video of that polite little kitteh visiting the vet reminds me of the last time I took Diva for such a visit. The vet got all pissy about the fact that Diva was not entirely enchanted with the process. I didn’t say anything at the time, but it did occur to me that a veterinarian dealing with such reactions is sorta like, ya know, in the job description. Nor have I ever visited that fine business establishment again. In fact, I found a vet who specializes in kittehs, although she is around 20 minutes away. Diva does not like riding in the car, lemme tell ya. It makes me feel just awful when I have to subject her to such indignities. Maestro, on the other hand, just sort of rolls with it.
On a related note, when non-cat people say, “Cats are all the same,” I invariably say, “Um…No…”
It’s The Year of the Cat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM7LR46zrQU
Very good idea. Ya got my vote.
Aside from the obvious benefits, it would be worth it just to watch the defense contractors’ heads explode as their cash registers stopped ringing. Comedy you can believe in.
Her first visit to the Vet was injurious to same, when I got feral Jocabel in domestic/cared for habits. After a few visits, she was a piece of mush. Everyone’s vet should be so talented.
that is the story of my babies. they were fine in the car… until after the ride that took them to get fixed. now, Daweed whines and cries any time he’s in a car. he was so traumatized by getting his junk cut off. it took me an hour, the day i picked them up after the surgery, to calm him down enough to get him in the carrier and into the car. my vets were really good about it tho, they were all like, “take your time, we’ve seen this before. just pet and love him until he settles down.”
“in the job description.” Yes, I would think so.
I’ve had a couple of kittehs who were very clear about their unhappiness to be poked and prodded and plunked on this stainless steel table. The vets pretty much laugh, maybe shake their heads, and try again.
Right? WTF? I was going to say, if a veterinarian doesn’t like cats being unhappy to see him/her, they should get out of the business!
Ya think?
I’ve got to get ready for a work–related meeting, but before I go, may I present 2 pix of my adorable kittehs: Pushy in the hidey-box/scratcher I got them before leaving for Christmas, and Pushy and Squeaky enjoying the warm bed in the first real cold weather, shortly before Christmas.
Poor Neko was in so much pain after getting fixed, she stayed in the closet for days. I was getting worried about her because she wouldn’t take food or water. Eventually I drained some canned chicken and gave her the broth. When she lapped it up, I went to the grocery store and got several cans of chicken and tuna, just so she could have the water it came in.
Thanks for the pics! How come everybody I know has great piles of books, stacked untidily everywhere? Looks like my house.
I remember hearing a radio interview with a vet who gives the animals some kitteh-xanax so they aren’t so traumatized. Sorta like having a cocktail to take the edge off. I’ll root around and see if I can dig it up, although I can’t remember the name of the book or the vet. So that’s a start, right?
That’s one reason I never had any desire to be one; people used to suggest it because I loved animals so much. Nuh-uh—I want them to be glad to see me. Couldn’t stand knowing every sweet kitteh and puppeh was afraid of me.
Before I go, must mention a Big Boy milestone….when I got up this morning and headed into the living room on my way to the kitchen, Big Boy was there! Well into the living room, not just a few steps, which was his farthest entry before Christmas. He and Smokey were about next to each other, both turning to head for the kitchen ahead of me.
In another week, he’ll be coming with Squeaky to wake me up! (smile)
He’s coming along. Poor guy won’t come in the house if I’m not here, though, so he slept outside on the cold nights while I was away. Sitter reports seeing him a couple of times, but he wouldn’t come in, of course. But at least he came to get fed. And seems to have forgiven me for going away.
Gotsta bail. Catch you on the flip side…
I hear there is a video of a cat being calmed with clothespins down its back, and the other day on teevee I saw a cat in some kind of a travel jacket sort of thing that is supposed to keep them very calm. The cat in it was calm, if that demonstrates anything. Something neurological about feeling hugged, but my cats don’t go for hugging.
Yesterday I went to an IdleNoMore event, and there was a guy with a cat there, just in his arms, as comfortable as could be. It was a lovely cat, and it apparently was used to crowds.
You know the reason: great minds…etc.
Thanks for saying that…I always feel guilty about the clutter, even though it is almost all books and other reading material.
Yay! Big Boy’s progress seems to be steady at least.
Ha! You should see the top of that closet in the pic. And I have books instead of food occupying my pantry. And my entertainment center is almost all books. And then there are boxes and boxes of them in the utility.
One more personal kitteh pic…since we all, I think, experience this scene.
Yes, I’m so pleased…was afraid five days away would lead to a setback in progress. He was a little wary on Friday evening, but he spent the night, after going out for awhile after dinner.
He has also grown comfortable enough with the other cats to have begun stealing from Smokey’s plate when I’m out of the kitchen. As soon as I walk in, he head back to his own dish. Southern Dragon/Richard would have been pleased, too…he was so encouraging and interested in attempts to help feral kittehs.
As to books…yeah, man, I have boxes of them in the garage, too.
Kuroneko sometimes helps me out like that.
Afternoon kids, thanks for the post Margaret. I’m late and also had to share the videos with the Mom. She loved the kitten on the slide and I thank you.
Round here we use a rubber knee high boot and welder’s gloves. This way kitty only hates boots.
/el snarko. puss sans boots, heh.
I had to move the television up to the top to make room for books.
we’re the liberals. we read.
so glad to hear you’re feeling better, woman.
Ouch!
Yeah, the question was rhetorical in nature. And thanks! I’m glad I’m feeling better too! :)
Yeah, I knew we could all identify. ; )
Check this out! I want one (or two) of these. Smokey loves to be up high, he’d love it. (I’d have to resist the temptation to stack books on them, though)
it is interesting to me, a book lover and sort of scholar, to think of the reading future reality my nieces and nephews will have. which is to say, fewer books, if any, and much more digital consumption of the “written” word. myself, i stick with books mostly because of the bathtub; you can’t take a kindle into one. but the practice of the younger generation will be vastly different, i think. ikea may go out of business, so many people will consider the bookshelf obsolete.
heh, the cats hate it when i read anything, on a glowing screen or on a page. they will plop themselves down right on a keyboard, or snuggle up between me and the page that’s opened, they get so jealous.
Old, crappy pic of what Neko the kitten thought of my reading habits.
Yep. When I get moved to a more permanent location, I plan to build something like that.
dood. 120$ for a frakking shelf? i don’t think so.
A lot of the “psycho cat” behavior comes when they’re not handled properly from the beginning, I think. Romeo had to see a vet in the practice on an out-of-hours basis a couple of weeks ago to get a shot to stop his vomiting (recurring pancreatitis is a bitch). That vet did not listen to me when I said Romeo needed to be tipped out of this box (oozing out with gravity) instead of being forcibly removed by the scruff of his neck. It was all downhill from there–Romeo actually knocked out a small tooth careening around the office when the vet and assistant tried to give him fluids and a shot. A day later he saw still another strange vet, but this one very quiet and empathetic. We still got in an assistant with gloves, but Romeo behaved quite well. A lot of bad behavior can be external factors IMHO.
Margaret, whatever is going around this year is a bear. I’m still recovering at 2+ weeks. I don’t really think mine was flu since I had a vaccination and never really had a fever that would indicate flu, but a LOT of people in this area were sick with this cold-like virus and terrible congestion and coughing. I’m almost never sick, but I gave in after 10 days and went to the doctor, who felt that I’d reached the point where antibiotics were in order. Take care of yourself!
So glad Big Boy is responding this well to the indoors.
You are so right. One justification I used when I got my Kindle was that I have no room for more paper books. And somewhere I’ve already seen something about uses for those “obsolete” bookshelves. But I find I still pick up the old-fashioned book far more often than the Kindle for sustained reading. Kindle is great when travelling, as I used to pack four or five heavy, space-occupying books on any trip,no matter how short.
Speaking of obsolete, my first kittehs adopted me back in the era of daily newspaper-reading. You remember, you’d hold up the large newspaper in front of you, blocking your face, and pow!! the cat had burst through the paper to get your attention. The good ol’ days, huh?
I’m sticking with books too and not just for the bathtub. The bigger problem with Kindle is that you are only renting that material and they reserve the right to obliterate your entire library downloaded through them. I’ve heard stories of that on BoingBoing far too often for my comfort. There are some that even require you to make an agreement that you will stay signed in 24/7, ostensibly to watchdog you to ensure you’re not making that material available to others. If I go to an electronic reader, it’s going to be a device that I can hook up to my computer to install downloaded material and not something equipped with it’s own ethernet device.
No kidding about the nasty stuff making the rounds, I am lucky so far, but I am afraid for my friend in SF, she is young and has a daughter, 8, not responding to medications.
Which is why I plan to make one, rather than purchase it.
I mean the mother is not responding.
Yeah, it’s bad. Your friend ought to be okay though. It’s not really responsive to meds, only time and care will knock it out.
LMAO! I remember those days! Sauron loved bursting through the newspaper, evil kitteh.
I agree fully. Although I don’t want to spend the money on an electronic reader anyway, the non-ownership issues really put me off. What happens if/when the device fails–do you have to download everything again on to a new device?
Having been around several nurses lately in my eldercare for the Mom, also have been told it’s hanging on much longer than usual. I’m of the lucky variety, no aches, sore throat, earache, hurt, deep cough, but my voice has been gone for weeks.
Yes, I believe that’s true. When I buy a book, I want to be able to have that available for me to pick up anytime. To read in bed, to read in the bathtub, even to read at work while I’m waiting for the next project to be dumped on me. I’m not comfortable renting reading materials. For myself, I’ll lament the day when Kindle is the rule, rather than the exception.
I had apparently moved from viral to bacterial infection–just 12 hours after I started antibiotics I was greatly improved after days of seemingly no progress at all, actually had a voice again after days of whispering. It’s still been hard to shake all the effects though.
Yeah, it’s some hangy on stuff! Like I said, I relapsed and now I believe it was because I went back to my workout routine too quickly!
Oh, that’s a terrible shame! How long has she been sick? Hope it isn’t one of those mutated viruses that are nearly invulnerable to antibiotics. OTOH, when I had pneumonia in ’96, I didn’t respond to the first meds, either; wound up in ICU, husband called at 2 am and told “you’d better get down here now,” but eventually the right med worked and here I am, all these years later.
Let’s hope that’s your friend’s scenario. I’ll send some healing thoughts her way.
chicagodyke–true, I hadn’t really paid attention to the price, just how cool the shelves were. I am not really the handy type. Which is to say, I can barely drive a nail into the wall straight, so I’m all about not having to make it myself…at least, for the wish list.
And now, although my kittehs have worn out and one is sleeping peacefully on my lap, I must wake him up and get in the shower to get on with the off-line day. No doubt I will check back later. CD, nice to see you here at Pull Up Your Cat. Come back again!
Yeah, I’m still a bit congested and there’s the nagging, little scratch in my throat that hasn’t gone away. Yuck!
Having an electronic reader while traveling though would be wonderful. Still would much rather download stuff to my computer and then put it on a reader so if the publisher erases it, it’s just gone from my computer and I still have it on the reader.
I hear ya. It is so cool for travelling…I do read on the Kindle while on the plane, or overnight business trips, and have downloaded a couple of relevant U.S. Code and State Codes (statutes) relevant to my practice to the Kindle. Considering print versions cost in the 100′s of dollars, and weigh a ton, it’s a real godsend to me, a person who can’t carry too much weight without real neck and shoulder pain.
I’m shopping software programs to use for practice management (scheduling, deadlines, document assembly, task lists, etc.) that can also be used on tablets, so I expect to get my money’s worth (actually, given what already is on it, it has probably paid for itself).
(I’m now under two sleepy kittehs…sigh. They just interfere with my best intentions to get up and move! heh)
They do that. Kuroneko has a way of getting all comfortable on me just when I need to go pee!
if yall want to hear a really sad, drama ridden story, i’ll explain why i haven’t been able to be here so much for so many months. i have missed it and i thank our very own excellent ruth for the time to be here today. she is the Best and you should all venerate her.
yes, the “ownership” issue is another reason why i don’t own a kindle. and last time i checked, they didn’t offer “a concise grammar of akkadian,” which i’m using for a project just now.
Akkadian??? Isn’t that, umm, written in cuneiform? Can you read cuneiform?
That is extremely cool!If I could read languages written in cuneiform, I would so be bragging all the time!
Can you tell us about your project? (why is it sad?)
(and yes, I’m still here. Too soft-hearted to evict the kittehs, but soon..)
I do venerate Ruth. And I want to hear the story, sad though it may be. I’m also interested in what could possibly have caused you to leave your beloved Chi9cago but I felt it was none of my business to ask.
I am just lurking, but I also would like to hear the story.
Scritches to all of the kittehs. I am so envious, but allergic grandchildren who visit preclude kittehs in the house, so I must adore from afar.
My voice was the first symptom also; weird. But I am coming out of the dread disease after 2 weeks plus, a Dr., and 10 days antibiotics….a mean thing to have during the holidays. I had not realized so many of us had been hit….Get well to all….Very odd.
A fellow choir member had some sort of bug…not sure it was the same as yours, because she complained of nausea, dizziness, sweating, etc., IOW it seemed more centered in the digestive system. Just as she thought she was recovering, it would hit again. Her doctor said it could take up to six weeks to leave, and didn’t suggest that antibiotics would help.
My doctor had all appointments filled for 2 solid days, recommended I go to EMO near me. First time that’s ever happened with this doctor in 20 years I’ve been seeing him. Nurse at the EMO said they’d seen many with same symptoms. It’s been really bad, like something blew in with Hurricane Sandy!
Just had lunch after being outside for a while and I hope nobody comes down with anything too distressing anymore this seasson. A hot bowl of tomato soup (using some of last season’s roasted/frozen tomatoes), with some crisp crusted french bread smothered with fresh hot baked garlic (mashed together with a bit of butter) spread.
I’ve never had a flu shot, I fear the civilian drug testing the MISC is pushing out into the civilian population of elderly every year. I know, paranoia will destroy ya.
Kitteh activity is light, she rolled over and is now sleeping with her face tucked into the arm of the chair. A looonnnggg winter’s nap.
I saw my ENT, and I think the antibiotics were a 1-2 punch bc the symptoms were so strange; plus, I felt truly awful. I like that dr alot. Im just glad I went ahead and went as ordinarily I would have waited, I think. Hope everyone is coming around.
Yeah, it kinda hit like a wildfire.
oh my no, not the same at all
I’d love to get one of those whole house makeovers, like this, or this colorful one.
yes, all hail Ruth! She’s a one and only
I came down with a scratchy throat and fever earlier in the month, but it wasn’t severe enough to rate staying home. But since the middle of the month I’ve had this nagging cough that has only started to recede this week.
Nagi in front of the tree that is now taken down and put away. *pats self on back for efficiency*
http://www.flickr.com/photos/73310045@N07/8326369069/
This stuff seems to hit everybody with the same symptoms but with varying degrees of severity. Weird.
Nagi always looks so alert.
That’s terrifying. My younger one lost his voice this year, but the older one with asthma has had a very good year so far, which is unusual. May our luck continue…
I like the mood of the twisty staircase, but the modern style house is really beautiful. I love the lack of clutter. Oh, to have no clutter…
One thing I’m still doing a lot of is sneezing. That might be mountain cedar though.
You surely have a beautiful cat….what a lovely gift.
Ooh! I like both of those, though I like the second one much more. Maybe it’s because the first looks so….sterile. Looks more like a museum than somebody’s home.
He is very hyper aware, but also calm. He is not high strung or skittish, but he *is* high energy. I thought I would find Nagi more of a deliberate troublemaker, but really he is just a sweet, sweet goofball.
He’s really a fabulous cat and the best Christmas present ever.
Looks like it…..and also looks well-loved, I think. SD would be so grateful.
Heh. Most days I would agree with you, ultra modern has a cold, sterile feeling to it. But with 2 growing boys and a gnome-sized house, I want clean lines and open feeling spaces right now.
I think he’s mostly happy, although Abner has not been overly welcoming. Nagi was snoozing on my chest this morning when Abner came up and whacked him out of a sound sleep. The ol’ curmudgeon.
Just like kids….what can we expect? O Dear….
How are Abner and Gracie feeling about him these days?
I can’t function with clutter – but NO clutter! I’d be a nervous wreck
let me clarify that, I’m all clutter
Not gonna lie, it’s been a lot more difficult for the two than I expected. Abner has some jealousy issues and Gracie resents the intrusion of a newcomer. They’ll adjust, though. The boys adore Nagi and play with him and feed him. Nagi needs to be adored.
I hope you remind them to make sure to spend time with Abner and Gracie too. They seem to be feeling like their world has been usurped from them by Nagi. Nagi needs to be adored but the other two need it and deserve it too and now more than ever.
Yep. I think you are right. Abner has been making his displeasure known by rejecting cuddles and he has even growled at me! It was nice to snooze with both Abner and Nagi on top of methis morning, but Abner needs private mommy time, I think.
I think it couldn’t hurt to dote on Abner and Gracie extra specially for a few weeks. They have to be made comfortable that they aren’t being replaced, just augmented. :)
Starting to cough again–think I will go lie down. At least I managed housework for the first time in four weeks–and a month’s worth of Romeo’s hair on the floor is not pretty. Margaret, thanks again for hosting today. Hope you feel better.
And you too…rest.
I read informed opinion at one time that I’ve never really had the heart to implement that goes that a newcomer should be pretty much ignored by the people in the family until newcomer is accepted into the cat hierarchy. Perhaps like many supposedly informed ideas, it’s something to be implemented with more than a grain of salt.
Go take care of that cough, gesneri.
!!!!
Never heard that before. I’m afraid we’ve gone in the opposite direction. Oh dear.
I hope you do as well. Take care of yourself and thanks for coming by.
Yeah, I’m no expert on cat society but that seems like a good way for the new cat to feel an overwhelming desire to get out of that situation. I would think the better way to go would be for the two leggeds to show all of the cats that they are loved, wanted and valued. The thing is, love doesn’t cost us anything so why be stingy with it?
If I could afford the cat walkways all over the tall walls, I supposed I’d be in the income range to afford to hire cleaning help to come in, daily. Mostly I’m happy to have the cat hair and dander closer to the floor, not where I eat or prepare food, where I can get at it with a duster and vacuum. I recently drew plans for a 4K plus square foot house where there is a two story room about 16 x 16 feet, open floor to ceiling, that will be the cat sanctuary (6 cat family). The owner has a vision for the eventual interior layout for that room.
4K sq ft. House? *maniacal laugh*. That’s like 4.5 times the space we have. I’m not complaining, though. We’ve got good schools, good weather, the right culture, nature, a nice view, etc. Those are some pampered cats!
Hi, ysd; I lurve that second “Catshouse”; have the book the owners/designers/builders wrote ten years ago or more, though can’t find it right now. It’s somewhere in California, and the owners are collectors of folk art, in particular Mexican folk art, so that’s where the colors come from. My ex loved it, too, and used to say he would build some catwalks and holes some day.
Wish I could do something like it, too. My guys would so love it.
One of these days I am going to get a really good cat tree with room for everyone.
Sorry to hear Abner’s jealous; but hardly a surprise, no? If he was willing to climb up and nap with you AND Nagi, he must be adjusting. I’m sure he would like some “private mommy time.” Nice pictures, by the way. Such a cutie. So much like my Pushy, and Dweezil before him.
They are serial entertainers, having a band and friends and food, frequently. Great room/kitchen/buffet counters, dance floor, cats can retreat to their “room,” is the plan but mostly they were all over the blueprints to thoroughly “inspect,” the layout as the design was taking shape. All of their cats are rescues that originally had some special difficulties, but these people are magic with them. Designed to be heated for about what my 90 yr-old farm house 900+ square feet costs, which is a pretty snug little house anyway, it was a fun project to be part of.
Well, I guess we aren’t going to hear chicago dyke’s sad story. Maybe she’s not ready to share that yet but whatever the case, I hope things are improving for you, woman. And I hope we’ll get to see you around more often.
Oh, yeah…perhaps she’s off working on the project. Or maybe she and Ruth have gone sight-seeing. ; )
I’ve been over at the Catshouse people’s website…what great photos. Some are in the book, a bunch are new. All cat people should check out the slideshow of “a typical night.” They set up lights and camera above their bed: shows all the current cats sleeping over and around the humans and their shifts during the night. Hilarious for anyone who sleeps with kittehs or has ever done.

That sounds so cool, nonq! When it’s done, do you suppose they’d let you post some pix?
What we hoomans will do for our four-legged companions, if we have the means.
I am merely serving as a bed again for Pushy. But I do have a load of cat beds and mats in the dryer right now. Big boy alone didn’t have his bed washed; I was afraid a fresh smell would put him off. He seems a bit nervous today, even of me. Makes me wonder if he had a bad encounter while I was away. Hope he will move in permanently soon.
Doing the same laundry here. I found that combing the blankets with a 3/8 inch plastic bristle slicker brush, flat on a table, gets a lot of the hair up prior to tossing into the washer. I’ll see later about any cat room picture, but that is the last priority I am sure as far as getting the place finished at the moment.
Ah, the life of cat staff is the same everywhere. Speaking of which, I should go check the dryer. Then I need to make some supper for myself; the feline lords and masters have had theirs and are all snoozing.
Newdealfarmgrrl may drop by when she gets off work to brag about her Adorables-in-Triplicate, the three kittens she got a few months ago from her brother.
would be a dream come true
so vibrant!
They may be planning on expanding their four-legged family. If I could swing building something, it would be some way to house some people. If they had cats, I could live with that.
g’evening, Pups! Tejanarusa, thanks for inviting me to drop by. Usually when i get home from work on sunday night i’m worn out from three 13-hr days in a row, and then, of course, i have to start on the cat staff duties i’ve assumed. But i couldn’t resist stopping by to brag about the little
rascalsdarlings. Here’s a pic of the Adorables-in-Triplicate that i took on Nov 5, the day i brought them home from my brother’s house. I thought they would like the basket, especially if it was positioned under the heat vent.
my daughter said “all three don’t add up to half a cat!” Eight weeks later, each one is more than half a cat in size. they’d been using the basket as a scratch toy, so i brought it into the kitchen with a fresh fuzzy towel and put it next to my usual chair. Within seconds there was a kitten in it, filling it completely. A little while later my other daughter came in the room and said, “Mom! TWO kittens have wedged themselves into the basket!” Sure ’nuff, two catlets crammed in. And as we ooohed and ahhhed and oh-fer-CYUUUTEd a third kitten head popped up from between the two wedged on top. Yes, i got a photo, but haven’t transferred it over from my camera yet.
“Adorables” doesn’t touch those cuties. Thanks for sharing!
i know i’m a proud “mom”, but i’ve lost my heart to the utter purring sweetness & high cute quotient of them all.
I’m glad i got three siblings, they keep each other happy and occupied on my three long work days each week.
I’ve thought about getting Kuroneko a companion but it seems to me that she’s perfectly content to spend weekdays by herself, snoozing and AWM, (AWaiting Mousies). :)
Oh, there is no way not to be in love with kittens, no matter how many at a time! I would take Adorable Boy home in a minute, but I won’t do it to Mr. Sadness. I would have to take AB’s sister too, I think, but not tempted as long as I have Mr. S in my house.
My cats are funny. Little is a jealous thing, she can’t take it if I give attention to someone else on the bed with her, so she leaves. She has been very sweet lately, and she’s a good snuggler.
Lucy is really her main competition, since she is easily available, as in not feral. The others will get on the bed but keep their distance. So Little has kind of a short fuse. . .not much tolerance for anyone else getting love.
Definitely keepers. Thanks for sharing. Glad I checked back, do they respond as a group or to individual names and is there a top cat among them yet?
we’re working on names, ie they have names but i don’t think they recognize they are being specifically addressed yet. Like all cats, they caught on immediately to the sound of a cat food can being opened and at this point any kitchen activity on my part has them climbing my jeans and demanding breakfast/lunch/supper. And various noises will bring them running en masse to investigate—crumpled up paper hitting the floor, an empty box being tossed on the rug, etc. Endlessly amusing!
Hey, glad you came by! Whew, three 13-hour days in a row…that is exhausting! No wonder we don’t see you.
Those three adorables perk you up, though, don’t they? So much cuteness all at once. Looking forward to the pic of them all crammed into the basket.
Lessee, and you went to pick out ONE kitten from your brother’s litter, right? Heh heh. Well, as you say, they keep each other company while you work those long days. Much better than a singlet.
Well, to employ a SouthernDragon metaphor, it’s time for me to leap into my tree. Thanks for attending and sharing. You’re the ones that make this fun. Goodnight.
Good night, Peggy. And thank you for doing the kitteh post. Don’t forget, there are volunteers willing to take their turn if you get tired of it. Sleep well, and be well.
