Good morning cat people and animal lovers of all flavors. Welcome to your weekly Pull Up Your Cat. Pull up your cat and feel free to join in and share stories or pictures with us.
It was a quiet and very routine week at Kuroneko’s home and for that, I’m grateful at least, although I’m not sure it can be called “routine” when the routine around here lately has been some minor crisis or another. Maybe uneventful would be a better word. I seem to have healed up and after a lot of intense itching, I feel more or less normal again. Kuroneko hates changes so she seems to be glad out of the ordinary things skipped us this week. The only thing really to report is that my method of letting her snuggle in the laundry while mopping worked like a charm again yesterday and she didn’t once follow me around from the counter. In fact, she seemed to be much braver around the vacuum and didn’t attack it once! Maybe fresh laundry has a soothing affect on her.
On to our pictures:
Kuroneko picture of the week: ‘Neko the covers hog! How much do you really need, silly cat?
Obligatory cute kitten picture of the week: Kuroneko has one of these wind up mousies but her reaction to it is even more ho-hum than the cat in the background of this picture. She ignores it entirely. Oh well, at least someone enjoys them. via Cute Overload.
Our video of the week is a long one and it’s got a laugh track, which I’m not sure about yet but it’s got some classics along with a lot of new material.
That’s it for this week. I hope everybody has a wonderful week ahead but whatever you have going this week, please remember to set aside some time to spend with whatever animals selflessly share their lives with you.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Good morning. Cool morning here and a great day to snuggle with a book and a kitteh on your lap.
Hey, Peg. Kitty snuggling with a book sounds good. But, for some reason, what could it be, he has to get between my face and the book. What? The lap’s not good enough. He’s like Rocko, he always wants More.
You took off from Talking Heads, but I found you, ha.
You can run, but you can’t hide. :)
LMAO! Yeah, the morning was wearing on me and I did exactly nothing toward writing this post yesterday, procrastinating me.
Yep, I figured it was something like that.
BTW, did you ever get Taz’s legs sewn back on. I worry about the little guy.
It was his ears and no, I haven’t done anything toward that either. Maybe I should do that today too.
Good Morning.
It snowed in SC yesterday. Still have a lovely cover on the ground this morning.
At least there was a hint of winter this year. I’m hoping we get some significant rain and a good wildflower season. Not holding my breath though. We haven’t had a really good one since 2005.
Oh, right. You wouldn’t have him hanging upside down, would you. He’s not a bat.
Yeah, I often think of all you friends there. We are also under drought conditions. I hope we have a very wet spring. The family farmers here are depending on it.
Good Morning PP. I’ve been missing you.
(((DEMI)))
You too! I dropped in on SOTU nite. Got a shock from one of the oldies here.
What was the shock, if I may ask?
Peg, here’s an animal story for ya:
Thousands of Dolphins Spotted Near San Diego.
A person alluded to me, the TWOOPH carrier, that my words were perponderous untruths. Quite shocking really. I kept on keeping on regardless.
There is a small history there. Margaret knows.
Thanks demi! Wow! That’s a lot of dolphins! I wonder what their porpoise was?
I don’t think that was directed at you. In fact, I’m reasonably sure it was not. Unless I missed something.
I wonder what might have drawn them all to one place. Maybe the grocer opened up a hatch for them. (grins)
Glad you think so. I was the only one at the time commenting on the proceedings.
Animal Planet has a 101 show on now. Beautiful cats!
No, I think you misunderstood. I haven’t talked to him since then and I could call and confirm but I’m pretty certain I know to whom he was referring and that wasn’t you. He doesn’t say anything until he gets through the comments, he’s very thorough that way and just because he chimed in while you were up to bat doesn’t mean it was in any way directed toward you.
EDIT: It can be argued that he should have been a bit more clear but he’s been a target even more than I have been by some of our….more purity oriented….commentators than I have been and I speak from certainty when I say that he left it vague so as not to disrupt Eli’s thread.
They just showed a Chinese Li Whau/sp. They say this breed has a tail that is not the same length as it’s body, but much shorter.
That really is amazing.
Okay. I’ll take your word for it. I was watching the tube at the time to translate for the readers.
Oh my! You’ve been hanging out with Ruth too much. Ha. You know I’m kidding. There is no too much hanging out with her.
I sometimes think that FDL should give a few of us free FDL t-shirts with a target on the back.
To be clear: I can’t and try not to speak for anybody. Heck, I have a tough enough time speaking for myself but I just don’t feel like you should take any of that personally. That’s sometimes hard to do, I know but I’ve never known the guy for shrinking away if he has a particular bone to pick. I’ve known him for a long, long time, (an eternity in blog years in fact), and I’ve never known him to be unfair in his criticism but he can be harsh when he feels it necessary. I think that’s all I should say on the subject.
TWOOPH!
No, our punny personalities developed independently of one another. I used to make my dad groan with that one. Threats of violence have kept me in check though.
Hmmm…. I have the one I got for joining and a silk screen machine at work…..
Hi Caturdennies, not much to report here. I am on another warpath with politics here, which has got me on a tear. When I have better info, I’ll do a diary as Suz suggests. Headed to SF this AM for a 350.org support rally.
Here is the info on the cat. This page does not mention the odd lengthed tail though:
http://cattime.com/cat-breeds/chinese-li-cats
Hell on wheels you are, Barb! Give ‘em heck!
You Go, Friend!
I’ve been tweeting with Bill. Uh, I should say I have been retweeting his tweets to others.
Oh, wow. I’ve seen those. I just thought they were tabbies with a weird tail. I didn’t know they were a breed.
Ah! Now they are showing the Chantilly. The chirping cat!
The black Chantilly on the tube now looks much like your baby.
You could do it, I’m sure. But, now I thinking, maybe we don’t need the physical target. Our names are enough to get ‘em going.
I’m going to step away and finish a portion of painting.
BBL.
(((Peggy Anne)))
The mister just said Maybe there’s something fishy going on.
Creative minds just can’t take a break. :)
See, I’m putting off the painting. No, I’m going to go do it.
Good Day, Demi!
I’m off too. Need to get laundry started.
Kuroneko is related to a group of cats that a friend of mine lived near at one point. She had a female with a bend in her tail and later she adopted a kitten from that group that had a bob tail. They then moved out into the country and the bob tailed cat bred with a feral female that used to hang around on the property. I say “feral’ in that she didn’t actually own any humans and she looked after herself and her kits but she was very friendly around people but fiercely independent. ‘Neko was a member of the first litter from that combo, (I think), and she got the face and personality of the weird tailed brood and the body plan and normal tail of her mom. And I got the best cat in the world so all in all, I was the luckiest.
Good morning. Been lurking but see you’re about to be all alone. Didn’t want you to be lonely.
Great piece and pics….I had odd coincidents today….I had checked back and found the long collection of things SD had posted.
Just hearing his voice so reminded me of how much he had meant to me….just special. Then of all things…I ran across Angela’s food dish; I guess I had just buried it when she quit eating. Wow, I was amazed; had completely slipped my mind. Somoone else can have it now….glad I was home and not headed for work.
Many of us really do have such a long history. My best.
Thanks, Margaret, oddly, at a birthday party yesterday there was a discussion among former cat companions, of cats long met at the Rainbow Bridge, of their continued existence yet found in pockets of our homes.
At chez CBL we have never gone out and aquired an animal. We have had 4 cats and 1 dog in our 24 years together and have been adopted by all of them. The strangest might be Peanut, a big orange and white male that lived next door. He spent most of his time at our house. His family moved 7 miles to the next town. 2 days later he showed up. We called. They picked him up. 2 days later he showed up. We called. They picked him up. You guessed it, 2 days later. They said he is yours. Although he died 15 years ago, the CBL still keeps his picture on the desk.
Remarkable, isn’t it? And my last 3 pets,a Yorkie and 2 cats (go back a long way). All inherited in one way or another. Maybe they choose us; all really great pets. RIP
We are currently the support team of Mike, a large, lazy, fluffy white and gray cat and Dora, a small tuxedo cat. Mike showed up as a very small starving kitten. Dora lived across the street but, much like the aforementioned Peanut, spent all of her time at our house. Her family left her with us when they moved. It’s funny that we have constantly had 4 legged companions without intending to.
My loving wife has been making doughnuts. Brought me fresh coffee with glaze all over the cup. Love her anyway.
That we got picked out is best, hopefully we were great pets, too. My last in N.TX. was born under the house, lived her entire life there.
Hey there! Thanks for coming by! Hope you and the lovely cbl are having a wonderful weekend.
Lovin’ overflows.
Wow, yeah. Hard work, but…etc. Good for you both.
For me, esp after the first cat had died a “tragic” death,
I had really sworn I would not have another….then the lovely
one I just had…came to me b/c her owner was sick. This shall not
happen again, you see…..Life happens, doesn’t it?
Let’s see…. I think we have that in common. I was given Kuroneko and general Hood. Sauron just showed up one day and I rescued Bashful from a lot where I worked, and where he was going to be run over or run off. I used to love going to pet stores to look at the animals but I’ve never actually bought a pet.
Wow. Not even 9 am yet, and there is a whole thread to read.
Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. Somebody with a heart like yours can’t resist sharing it with someone less fortunate and in need.
Well then, pull up a Nagi and get to readin’…
A little surprised Kris has not stopped in yet. Yesterday at lunch he shared that their beloved Rosie, a beautiful and sweet yellow lab/greyhound mix went in to some sort of anaphylactic shock on Friday and had to be rushed to the vet. A couple of shots and some benedryl and she is fine. No explaination.
Do you think all this rescue just means we are all push-overs?
O, Maybe, I guess.
Whew! Glad she’s okay!
Nagi has a very sweet habit of asking to be spooned under the covers at night. The funny thing is that he’ll get up a few times at night for a snack and to use the box, and then he comes right back to claim his spot under the covers. If my arm isn’t around him, he won’t stay. Lol.
That is the way one is seduced, is it not? Im going to hope you’re wrong, but Ive not regretted any of the 3…that’s for
sure. Thanks.
And we wonder why they’re spoiled. Such fun.
Terrifying. The vet didn’t guess what may have caused the reaction?
I know I’m a soft touch. How can you not have mercy on a half pound starving kitten that shows up at your back door.
Ruth @50,
Just had to go wash the cup and the hands so I could touch the ‘puter again.
Sure. We’re compassionate. That kinda goes with being liberal I think. Conservatives don’t seem to care much about anybody or anything that they don’t perceive as directly affecting them. A liberal will more often than not see a starving kitten as helpless and in need of rescue while a conservative will see it as another mouth to feed. I wasn’t looking for Kuroneko either. Let’s face it, an animal can greatly restrict your freedom but I’ve never regretted having her or any of the others.
I’m pwned. Nagi is on my lap purring right now, the lil sweetie.
When I got the yorkie, he had only been a “stud” dog. He would not even bark….I guess could only do one thing. He finally started barking when we had left him on a very high bed; could not get down. It was like seeing a child develop.
So worth the minor loss of freedom.
See mine @ 64. You and I can’t refuse to show mercy but there are many, many people who can and do. Regularly. It’s entirely alien to me though.
And then some…
He said for 6 or 8 hundred dollars they might be able to figure it out. But since they have been a year and a half in the same house and there has been no trouble they should not worry about it. Something she ate? A bug bite? No clue. The thing that really got Kris was the bill. $68.00. As a relatively recent transplant from CA he was truly shocked.
Awwwww! Neko is refusing to visit me this morning, instead spending her time in her closet of solitude.
The Bay Area no less. A pleasant shock to have though, no doubt.
…at the outrageously low price of 68 bucks for a vet visit? Living mid-country has some serious benefits.
OT: Looks like it is now going to be a beauuutiful day in
our neighborhood; so grateful. A chance I may get something
done. Maybe….
We have an 8 year old sleepover guest for my son, so lots to do today… I’ll leave you all with the video and song that has ruled my weekend. Eight year old boy humor.
Margaret and ysd,
Kris shared that a similar expeience several years ago in CA had cost him over $400.00 so he was prepared for the worst.
RevBev,
We are still in bathrobes here but may have to get out. It is our only day off together.
Thanks for the postnhost Margaret. Have a wonderful day all.
Take care….still a bit cooler than I thought.
Have a great day and hugs to the cbl. :)
Jeez, busy morning! I’ve just skimmed through the comments…love the picture of Kuroneko in her bed cover nest. The colors contrast nicely with her fur.
Mine have been “nesting” on the bed as well this week; I’ve resisted taking pix because I already have a bunch of similar ones. ; )
Tried to take a pic yesterday of Smokey on the settee some neighbor set out under the main tree in the backyard. Big Boy was nestled at the base of the tree…would’ve been such a cute picture…but of course, at my mere approach, they both got up and came straight toward me, ruining the pic.
I am on the bed now, post-breakfast, with two of three here…Big Boy went out after eating. Breakfast was pretty late, so I let him.
Hah…Smokey, the only absent one, showed up a few minutes ago, prompting Pushy to jump down and run off.
A minute later he came back crying the characteristic cry that means, “I have a rubber ball in my mouth for you.” Sure enough.
He’s been doing that lately, but unlike Charlie, my first retriever cat, he does not seem to want me to toss it for him. Charlie would wait patiently, gazing toward the spot where I should throw the ball he had dropped at my feet, then race off for it, pick it up and bring it back to me.
Pushy just seems to want to bring it to me. If I toss it, he doesn’t go for it. So funny.
Hi Bev. Not only a long history of commenting now and then, but friends you can reach out to. I’m so glad we do that, you and me.
A gift.
Hi Tejana. Scritches to all! Kuroneko has been lazy all morning and just decided it’s too quiet around here. Now she’s charging around, knocking everything she can get her paws on over.
Ha. Quiet only last so long!
Glad I wasn’t entirely talking to myself. I see a bunch of the earlyh commenters have gone off to get sometehing done. Me, too, I think. Have spent enough time bonding with the kitties, who are settling down to nap. I hope.
I’m sure more folks will drop by, and I’ll be back later to see what new stories there are.
Thanks for posting and hosting, Peg.
Good afternoon kitten friends,
I found the point of entry for two mice that made it into the regular living space of the house that so far has not been accessible. I was busy removing and making and replacing a threshold to the door to the back laundry room. That room sits on a slab that moves just enough when there is frost heaving of the ground (when we get extreme cold with no snow cover outside), which catty-wompussed the door frame just enough to open a small crack under the door itself. The new threshold covers the opening regardless of any seasonal movement.
Mcat, oblivious, snoring in her chair, feet up, basking in sun through the window, but she did a sprint across the living room and over to the refrigerator the other evening which alerted me to be on the lookout for an intruder.
Not quite as activist as Barbara today, but have been phoning friends and composing some positions and organizing educational materials to bring to three groups this coming week encouraging their members to make public statements against the Republican lunacy happening here statewide. We are agenda items on two of the groups monthly meetngs and will utilize the public comment period at the third.
catty-wompussed
You win the cat thread award for best use of cat related vocabulary. Bravo.
I am honored ysd, I would sincerely like to thank my parents, my grand-parents, the bar-slang I picked up 4 decades ago, my sophomore HS English teacher, (tap, tap) is this mic on….hello, testing…
LOL. Not only a great word but used exactly right. They should all be proud.
Thinking faster than I can type, should read, “sincerely like to thank the Acatemy, my…”
Hope everyone is having an enjoyable afternoon. Took a short walk in cold, 15 F, weather but the sunshine is being solidly felt despite the air temps.
I’m late and can’t stay, but I just wanted to say “hi” to the beasties and the people who love them.
Hello, People of the Cat. Thanks for the post and host, Margaret.
We are spending the weekend immersed in the office closet. It is full, floor to ceiling, no exaggeration, with trays of slides and boxes of photos and family history that were brought from my parents’ house after my dad died. I am the only child remaining, so I brought as much as I could here and now we are trying to make some semblance of order of generations worth of photos and ephemera.
The cats are being helpful, in the manner of cats. They want to play. At least the boxes, as we empty them and organize the contents into lidded totes, are entertainment for them. Time to call it a day, have a shower and a glass of wine, then have a proper play session.
I’m so glad these two found us. I can’t think of any two that I would rather have. Good thing, because these are the only ones the tree had on offer that afternoon. Though in truth, the only way I was able to convince them to choose me was to call up to them, “I live to serve you!”
Nonqui, I remember that expression from my grandmother, except I think her version was ‘kitty- wompussed’. Lovely memory, thanks.
Have a lovely evening, everyone, and scritches to all your critters from
Ohmmmm
Love the last picture. Maine coons. Pigs. Got one.
Yes, that is exactly right, as you wrote it.
And I saw the damnedest thing today.
This squirrel leaped from one tree to the next on my block, which is not unusual.
But it PEED IN MID-AIR at the same time, and that squirrel pee hit this dog that a lady was walking!
The dog, of course, immediately had this olfactory freakout and was rolling, rolling, rolling, but the lady didn’t see the squirrel pee part.
I was standing on my porch in my bathrobe drinking a cup of coffee at the time, and I was all “Hey lady, lady!” But she was on the cell phone, so, naturally, completely ignored a bed-head-yelling-homo on his porch.
She has NO IDEA that there is this squirrel pee on her dog.
LMAO! I’ll bet she was even more puzzled when she ran her hands over his coat. Yet another reason that cell phone distractions can be problematic.
Good to know my interpretation of that event was accurate. I don’t want to speak for you but it seemed that a bit of clarification was called for. Thanks for stopping by, stranger. As always, tell belch hi!
Mission Accomplished – he sez “Hi back.”
Also, did I tell you (thought I did) my folks moved to Austin last year? So it’s been a whole year and I’m tryin to figure out exactly WHEN I get hired full time instead of stoopit contract status, so I can make some time to get there and see ‘em.
Which would involve some more visits, including, you know, you. :)
No way! You didn’t tell me that Kelly, or if you did I promptly forgot it. Here’s to hoping you get hired on full time so you can have a vacation.
Kuroneko is helpful in the same way. She loves to interpose herself when I’m manipulating things. Thanks for taking time from your project to stop in.
My thanks to you for your time and efforts every Sunday. I know SD would be so pleased. You stepped up, big time, as did the Over Easy hosts.
I can’t replace him but I hope to capture some of that spirit.
He is irreplaceable.
He said about you once, ‘she and I think alike’. Pretty damn high praise, lady.
Have a good night. (((Margaret)))).
I didn’t know that. High praise indeed. Have a good night yourself, ((((OM)))).
With that, I think it’s time for me to wrap up another Pull Up Your Cat. I don’t know if anybody else has noticed but the PTB here have been promoting this diary almost every week, which is more high praise so I’ll give a shout out for that. Be good to yourselves and others around you in the coming week and remember to spend some time with the animals who love you.
Wow, Peg, nice end for the day of Cats! Very impressive.
Somehow I got hung up while out doing errands and got him really late. Missed the rest of PUYC.
So glad it’s here, though, even if sometimes I miss part of it.
Got Smokey on my lap right now; all three worn out after late supper followed by vigorous play, chasing balls and catnip toys. Poor things were clearly fearing starvation when I was late, given the way they gobbled down their food.
A lovely day of visitng among cat persons. Have a good week, all!
Meow and good night!
