Voters handed democrats yet another overwhelming victory, so naturally the Democrats are going to screw their voters and enact stupid Republican policies. Despite the hundreds of millions spent to elect the plutocrat Romney and his clown posse of tax-hating, women-bashing, austerity loving, war everywhere candidates, voters rejected the Republican party. Democrats even won the culture wars, with gay marriage and cannabis. They won the rising demographics, and lost only in the losing demographics, old white guys and people with incomes above the median. Of course, under the whip of the plutocrats, that median is dropping rapidly, so rapidly that even those voters might figure it out by the next election.
So what, say the Democratic Elites. The Republicans were right: we have to cut Social Security and Medicare, and we can’t really raise taxes on the rich. We got another piece of evidence today. The New York Times resurrected the execrable Robert Rubin, author of deregulation, to tell the elites to support the plutocrat position: deficits must be cut, so they must cut benefits to tens of millions of Obama supporters. Next he’ll tell the Democrats to repeal Obamacare and Dodd-Frank, and to destroy Planned Parenthood. Those policies were directly and powerfully rejected by their voters, but that doesn’t matter to the Elites. Elections don’t matter, they say loud and clear by their actions.
Of course there should be noises about bipartisanship in the aftermath of a crushing win. But no one actually believes that crap or worse, acts as if they believe that crap. Certainly the Republicans don’t. They talk about neutering/spaying the opposition. They treat their opponents as traitors to the True Conservative America, like garbage that should be dumped in the nearest stream. They act like winning is a license to pour lye on the imagined bodies of their opponents, and salt the ground they sprang from.
When Republicans win, they follow the instructions given to the King Saul about the Amaleks in 1 Sam. 2-3:
2. This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
The donkey killers hate majority rule, because they are the minority party. For the last four years, they jammed minority rule in the Senate down our throats. They hate government, and they made sure it couldn’t function. They used political force to make room for their stupid loser policies in the face of overwhelming defeat.
The Democrats don’t get it. They have completely forgotten what it means to be a winner, and have no idea how to act like one. They fail to understand that the greatest pleasure of winning is trash talking the losers. They don’t remember what fun it is to point out over and over what losers the other side is. They don’t grasp the intense delight that their supporters get when they grind their enemies into the dust. They refuse to give their own side the intense pleasure of making the other side whimper like the babies they are. They refuse to kick the other side while it’s down, cringing in fear and begging for mercy.
They fail to understand the anger we all feel when we are deprived of the fruits of victory by our own side. Ask yourselves how you would feel if after winning your state high school championship, your team said it was going to share the win with the other side, and that they would be co-champions. That is our national Democrats.
Now remember how they did that very thing in 2008? How they let the losers run the Senate under minority rule? How they refused to force them to eat the dirt they so richly deserved? And remember what happened in 2010? How they lost the house? How they lost their majority? That is going to happen again, if they don’t take this opportunity to stomp the Republicans into the mud created by their own tears of defeat. Even in this year’s victory, against an aroused foe and with an excellent GOTV effort, Obama won 7 million fewer votes than in 2008, and you can bet a good number of those were disaffected and angry about the radical failure of the Democrats to act like Democrats and winners.
This isn’t rugby. You don’t go drinking with the other side after a win like this. They aren’t your equals, they aren’t your friends, they aren’t fair competitors. They hate you and they hate themselves for losing.
Beat them with the scorpion tails of loss. You’d be surprised how good it feels.

Scorpion tails of loss? Holy shit! Where can I get me one of them?
All of these people are either already very wealthy, and want to remain that way,
or looking toward their future careers on K Street.
(This is the real meaning of Look forward, not backwards.)
They are simply maximizing their utility function$.
Try to realize it’s all within yourself, no one else can make you see.
Practice your victory dance on the head of a conservative. It beats the hell out of mousy Chuck Schumer Kumbaya.
Come on Masaccio, after all these years you don’t realize what role the dems play in this Kabuki Play. If the Dems acted like winners they would have to actually govern like winners and make good on some of their Lies.
Their role is to play the Good Cop while helping the Bad Cop in selling us all Down The River.
It is not like us Jill Stein supporters didn’t predict this, but you all supported them anyway! Why act surprised!
^^^ That. They can’t walk their talk, they are being paid to guarantee that their phony liberal talking points never come into being. Hard to square the objective of betraying the base with ostentatious displays of triumphalism. They need an excuse to cave– any excuse. Bipartisanship is actually closest to the truth and easiest therefore to defend. When it comes to serving the .01% there is only one party.
We are now sorting out who the “elite Democrats” are. The next two months will produce an extreme amount of clarity for the American people about how Washington operates. Let’s hope that neither the “losers” nor the GOP can hide in 2014.
So Sad. So true. I have no illusions.
this is a joke right? the Dims know eggzactly how to play this!Their role is cave-ins for the good of the !% ers, which a lot of them belong to…it is so VERY obvious
NY…Manhattan, after Sandy electricity back on Broadway, stock exchange purring
FAR ROCKAWAY,CONEY ISLAND =Asia after the tsunami
$$$$$ talks
I feel better already, just reading this. Thank you for giving voice to my anger.
The Democrats are the elites, they serve the super elites, and the 99.9% are the losers. Here’s a report from the Independent Policy Center regarding what the elites of the Fix the Debt Campaign stand to gain from a Grand Bargain.
PDF of the report
For those not familiar with the Fix the Debt Campaign, heres a list of the elite CEO’s and politicians, headed up by Bowles and Simpson.
I don’t know anything about the IPC, but from their website it looks like they’ve been around a long time.
I might be able to see the desirability of more trash-talking if it meant anything like not selling out our futures, but…it doesn’t seem likely.
If Dems are patting themselves for killing us and planet more slowly, I’d ask: how much more slowly, and is that in any way meaningful? Especially knowing that only a Democratic administration could rob us while increasing the corporatization of schools and who knows what next.
Are we looking forward to organized labor trumpeting their likely miniscule victories as worthy? Are we expecting…well, never mind. Dems won’t have to do anything but pretend now.
That sounded kind of careless. “…been around a long time working on important issues as far as I can tell.”
Oh, the Democrats get it, all right. The people who don’t get it are the ones who think there is actually a difference between the Democratic and Republican Parties on the issue of whom should hold the wealth and power in this country.
On that issue, there has been true bipartisanship for decades, yet the Democratic Party apologists still refuse to see it. Talk about solipsism!
Okay, I admit it. I hit “Robert Rubin” and just started giggling.
Ruh-roh, Rubinistas!
Way to create a giant credibility trap for yourselves ;-)
My question is, why is it that these people (Obama supporters) can’t see this?
it’s as plain as day.
First foreign policy move, the day after the election… drone bomb Yemen, increase Iran sanctions.
first domestic move… announce there will be no carbon tax. In other words, climate change yeah.
What trick do these people play on themselves. It’s really quite remarkable.
It isn’t the trash talking, that’s for later. It acting like winners and enacting programs that will benefit their supporters and crush their opponents into the bitter dust.
Three good summaries of everything about the election:

Wow! Thanks so much for the report from IPS. From the intro it looks like what CEOs and Greek politicians have done for Greece such as hiding all of their income from taxation is the plan here too. Off to read the report. Thanks again, marym.
A-fucking-men!!!
I would agree with you analysis here.
Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) is a great and venerated bulwark of left-wing think-tankery in Washington, DC. For a long time it was headed by Robert Borosage, who moved on to the Campaign for America’s Future. The timing on this “Fix the Debt” propaganda has been exceptionally bad: the UK Parliament reamed out several of the biggest tax evaders over there (Google, Starbucks, Amazon) in a public hearing yesterday.
I almost wish that any part of me believed that they do indeed have any desire to enact policies that would help us or the planet, masaccio. An infrastructure rebuilding jobs program? Retrofitting houses with insulation, solar or geothermal heat and double-glazed windows, painting the roofs white?
A serious green energy program, not the REDD ‘green economics’ bullshit that they pretend helps? Stomping on fracking, tar sands pipelines and halting all drilling in the Arctic? Unwinding 2 big 2 fail banks and prosecuting fraud before the next crash comes and produces vast suffering for us, but not Wall Street?
Enacting a total moratorium on home foreclosures and cramming down mortgages? Writing off all debt that was usurious? Seriously admitting that there IS no fiscal crisis, thus no need for austerity programs? Closing half the US bases globally, and swearing to never let the TPP be enacted?
Seriously, if you could pick a few of those items they *might* want to address, I’d like to hear your thoughts.
Not to quibble overmuch, but it really wasn’t *Democrats* who won the legalization of pot or the MMJ in those states, but voters, imo.
Thanks for the information about IPC, it will be a good future reference. I see David Dayen has a new post about Fix the Debt and this report too.
Which men?
Can someone please tell me why we shld be surprised or upset about this? You knew this was going to happen and yet most of you voted for the lesser evil anyway so deal with it. If Obama cuts your benefits at least be happy that it was him and not Romney doing it.
Well, Nancy’s leaving so now we can impeach Bush! Oh wait…
Would you mind not giving up ahead of time?
“This isn’t rugby. You don’t go drinking with the other side after a win like this.”
Mac, I could hug you. :o)
That’s a great way to put it. :o)
Obama went all bipartisan when he had those 79-18 majorities, and look what it got us. Four years of gridlock. And he’s already started the same shit, this time.
Is there no one in D.C. who knows what’s going on with poor and working-class people and whom will work to defend them in the face of this burgeoning corporate 4th Reich?
Just this time last week, members of Obot, LLC were telling us how evil the other evil was.
Nice to know that things are back to normal.
And the likes of Amy Klobuchar wonder why I didn’t vote for them this time round.
Trumka came out of the meeting with Obama very optimistic today! Translation: the liberal veal pen is tuning up to cave on social safety net cuts. What a bunch of worthless vermin.
Lest we forget, Saul held off on slaughtering all the livestock until he could put together a proper sacrifce. To which GOD said – You ain’t king no more.
The U.S. public are by and large the dumbest fuckers on the planet.
whew! you’re kidding, right?
I’m 52 … last week was my 9th POTUS and my first where I didn’t vote Dem-0-crap (me and about 8 million ohters walked on 0bummer).
I wrote in … “my wife” I think it was?.
this will sound crazy – I like systems which work well – If I had got my math degree in my early years, instead of being a drunken cook, I would have gone into optimization – I have rarely voted for lefties cuz, as someone who grew up on welfare, they struck me as head up their asses trustafarians who wanted to have meetings and other people would cook, clean, grow the food, make shit work …
I voted FOR these moderate sell out f’ks in the HOPE that they’d make stuff work & we shove re-puke lies back down the nasty holes those lies come from – instead, I got a bunch of lying yuppie f’cks selling me out.
rmm
That piece o shat is stepping down from her “leadership” role? Her knees must be chaffed from servicing the Prez.
I’m just telling you that if Obama supports any cuts in Social Security that the American People will rise up in revolt, finally, and impeach him and the criminal congress and I hope the revolt extends to the states as well. Nothing will galvanize political retribution more than if they attack the primary safety net of common Americans.
I actually look forward to this happening and it will cause massive upheaval in the country and may force real political change if not lots of bloodshed before it’s settled.
I hope to see you all at the barricades.
Talk of Democratic politicians having no spines are greatly exaggerated, just like Obama’s timidity is myth: He’s plenty tough when it comes to standing up to the Democratic base.
Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama and Democrats want what they want. The DLC/No Labels/Third Way-controlled Democratic Party gives lip service to all populist issues (like jobs, civil rights protections, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, public healthcare, Wall Street reform, environmental and energy issues, etc.).
If the Bush years taught us anything, it’s that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you’re stolid and relentless in your sales pitch and tactics. It’s not that Bush and Rove were geniuses and knew something that nobody else knew; Bush and Rove were just more ruthless in doing what politicians and the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans — If you keep at it, escalate your attacks, don’t take ‘no’ for an answer, never back away, you’ll wear the opposition down.
Obama didn’t get to be the first black president, vanquish Clinton’s machine (to get the nomination) and the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history and win a second term (including the Rove Machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching BushCheney off the table, have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches and pitchforks?
Obama and Democrats know how to do it — They don’t want to do it.
The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they’re merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to achieve our alleged shared objectives.
Getting Democratic voters (and Obama’s ‘most ardent supporters’) to understand that Democratic politicians have been taking us all for suckers and patsies is the most immediate problem and the challenge.
Just my opinion, but you don’t get to claim that your reelection gave you a mandate to slash social programs and kill American citizens without due process and launch drones around the world and at home when what you ran on was that the American people would have less to fear about you being in charge than Romney.
I thought you posted a picture of a scorpion as a reference to the fable of the frog and the scorpion.
AFA o is concerned, he won. That gives him the mandate of being the “people’s choice.” That means that the “people” love him and his policies. Therefore, he will continue to do what he was doing and destroy the dims, the safety net, and the remaining corpse of the Constitution. I’m unable to see how so many people voted for him as the “lesser of two evils.” In my estimation the Black Agenda Report was correct to call him “the more effective evil.” That is how he will do all of those things that you don’t think that he can do. He started the first time around and will double down this time.
Oh to be a fly on the wall during negotiations.
Dem: My starting position is higher taxes on the rich and lower taxes for everyone else. No, make that higher taxes on the rich and the same taxes for everyone else.
Rep: No, your starting position will be lower taxes for everyone.
Dem: Well, how about lower taxes on everyone, and taking a look at Social Security.
Rep: No, you will support lower taxes on the wealthy, higher taxes on the middle class, and looking at Social Security.
Dem: How about lower taxes on the wealthy and dismantling Social Security.
Rep: You drive a hard bargain. I’ll have to take it back to my leadership and get back to you.
Dem: Phew!
Can’t wait until 2013 and I’m told I need to vote for Democrats because the Republicans will be so much worse.
Lincoln and the Gov’t should have adopted masaccio’s punitive approach to treating losers after the Civil War.
Props to Martin O’Malley, who is talking about how the Republicans need to lose their “Tea Party Stench.”
I’m totally in accord with this piece as it stands. My question is, however, whether it corresponds with reality, or whether the reality is an emergence of a politics that in fact reflects smaller government mentality, and in which Dems behavior accurately reflects their cooption by right wing financial and other thinking. True, the Dems look like awkward hypocrites to those who recognize this charade, but there seems like no effective mechanism to get them to shape up. Not between elections. And they don’t get punished by elections because it’s either them or the alternative without the sheeps clothing.
OK, the true alternative? A viable third, progressive party or faction. We’ve known this for years but the system seems too locked down to nurture it.
. . . further, it seems we are trying to define dems in terms that make sense to us. Fact is, by their behavior, they are defining themselves. Pointing out that their behavior is anathema might make us feel better, but it doesn’t seem related to political reality. Maybe we are the dinosaurs, not them. (devil’s advocate alert)
Just for fun, let’s see if we can figure out the difference between beating the crap out of the legislative leaders of the loser party so you can push your own program on one hand, and dealing with the aftermath of the Civil War on the other.
Let me know how that turns out for you.
Da-Ding!
Drive a Gold-Spike right there.
!
Clairvoyant much?
Why does masaccio think John Boehner is an elite Democrat?
Minority Leader Pelosi is under the impression the Republicans won the House, and I trust her vote counting.
And until the House Republicans votes to hike taxes, there is no victory, just gridlock.
