Great piece and as a loyal long FDL reader, I know all this. It’s a great point: the guy who created the Simpson Commission WANTS this to happen and he always has.

My question is why the lie?

I don’t think he is lying. He couches everything he says in terms of “saving social security,” but Pete Peterson does the same thing and nobody is fooled about his agenda.

I think it’s just projection. People believing about Obama what they want to believe, even when he’s telling them straight to their faces that it’s not true.
