TomThumb commented on the blog post The Justice Department’s Seizing of AP Phone Records: A Continuation of Attacks on Freedom of the Press
This is an outrageous violation of Freedom of the Press, and of individual journalist’s privacy. There is no excuse for this which would be acceptable. This is no different from turning every telephone in America into a ‘party line’.

Here is a link to the Alliance For Retired Americans Friday pdf:
They list significant events in a news summary and also a who’s who of politicians who show up to show support.

The London Occupyers were prohibited from camping by St. Paul’s and blocked from worship too. Giles Fraser (from St. Paul’s) was fired for taking the Occupyers part in the dispute. Many Churches have sold out the People in favor of big moneyed interests. More HERE.

Time to prune out the dead wood in your fruit trees, bearman. If those Ds want to go back to Congress or the Senate, they had better firm up their position on cuts to the safety net programs.

This picture was dedicated to Occupy London at St. Paul’s. Just a coincidence when I saw that beautiful song by Karine…..and her mention of Sir Wren and her dedication of the song to Occupy.

Hi wendydavis! Warren and Franken spoke at the SS Summit, both committed to opposing the chained cpi. The Alliance for Retired Americans seems to have supplanted the “corrupt” AARP in putting people on the phones and in congressional offices to complain about the proposed safety net cuts. People need a toll free number to call up [...]

TomThumb wrote a new diary post: Senator Sanders Demands That The Rich Pay Their Fair Share Of Social Security.
I. Sanders Says Tax The Rich At Yesterday’s Social Security Summit. The Social Security fight has taken a new turn. Senator Sanders is demanding that the rich and corporations pay their fair share in taxes, both to close the small gap for Social Security and to address the government’s need for revenue. Yesterday, at the Social Security [...]

I enjoyed the author’s honesty: finally admitting that uninsured people actually are billed more and pay higher costs that insureds and Medicare beneficiaries.

These algorithms generate many false positives. There are no short-cuts. NYPD should know better since this will generate law suits from wrongly suspected people.
Unfortunately, when the NYPD decide to target a group they are really efficient. e.g. stop and frisk of persons of color. But look what they did to journalists using digital recording phones and cameras during OWS. They systematically trashed and physically hurt journalists covering OWS.
Think this is the link about trashing the press.

TomThumb commented on the blog post “Homeland Security” Spending Overtakes New Deal
The trade off with inadequate healthcare is my standard for comparison. We won’t be able to afford to use our ‘bronze plans’ because the copays and the deductibles will be too high.
Plus asking for us regular folk to pay for it with our social Security through a chained cpi and then refusing to tax Wall Street for financial transactions, well the abuse of tax payers goes on and on.

The Sequester will surely condemn its makers as one per centers. Making others suffer needlessly is sociopathic.

The empty meeting room of the Joint Economic Committee meeting referenced in this post, is emblematic of the problem. There is a disconnect between the local writers who DO respond and the politicians who ignore them. That is why I posted the Editorial written by Chris Gibson here in comment #7.
We have a local Op Ed warrior who writes in opposition to Gibson’s deficit hawk policies.
The local Daily Star has also evolved to deal with the pressure of the democratic voices of the people. They meet with the candidates in seclusion, then write their statements of support before elections. The last Democrat office holder in this District was a deficit-hawk too, and would not commit to not cut Social Security. He lost his re-election bid. Rs and Ds policies are no different from each other in this District.
Based upon local experiences and the lack of any political action in D.C. to address the issue of unemployment, my opinion is that the Internet is the last, best hope for change. That is why I wrote about Chris Gibson’s lack of any constructive action on the jobs front, today.
IMHO, People who have been hurt by austerity and lack of any political response, will have to rise up and demand change.

My local Rep Chris Gibson wrote an editorial in the Daily Star in Oneonta, NY, stating that he supports the cuts, is against government spending and supports the proposals of the Bowles-Simpson chair persons recommendations. He did not meet any resistance for his shrink government, cut the safety nets, because people do not really understand that his policies and actions will affect them personally. People think it is all just posturing and talk, until it is cuts and something real. Despite his history of working in a socialist enterprise, the armed services, he is all in for the free market, free enterprise propaganda, and has never proposed that government could directly create jobs. Even the union of the unemployed has no other strategy than electing more Democrats. Until there is something like another uprising of the dispossessed, I don’t see any hope for change.

TomThumb commented on the diary post ‘No Matter How Much the Results Change, the Hypothesis Must Remain the Same’ by Elliott.
If politicians swallowed Obamacare and know they will be kicked out of office after it kicks in, why wouldn’t they swallow austerity and catfood cuts while they can still harvest some Pete Peterson kickbacks. Once they are out of office, are there really enough lobbyist jobs for all of these crooks? Probably. So why should [...]
