  • What win?

  • I see this news as a failure for environmentalists. A win would have been scrapping the project. Now, it’s a sure thing.

And yes, most of the people I talk to who claim to be on the left will do what they have always done and vote for the lesser of two evils. It’s pretty sad.

With the “progressive democrat” in the White House pushing right wing policies that go beyond Bushco, I am amazed that we have all this Nader hating going on here. I am tired of hearing how Nader cost Gore the election by the same crowd of “lesser of 2 evils” people who complain about how things are, but continue to vote based on branding. Gore lost because he was a shitty candidate and could not beat Bushco by enough votes to allow it to be stolen. The Green party shot itself in the head not by putting Nader on the ballot in 2000, but by adopting the same “lesser of 2 evils if the state is not a sure thing” attitude that I am hearing from some of the people here. As far as his comments about Palin, perhaps he’s referring to her including her handlers and saying that they are trying to find an entity for her to be that separates her from the other screwballs running for the republican nomination. Just a thought.

  • The Solyndra solar concept has been something that a lot of people thought was hokey to start. Thin film is much less efficient than silicon based systems, but I think is the future. In particular with commercial applications where you have walls of windows that could all be converted or built with glass coated with thin film solar and generate power. The Solyndra concept deposited the thin film inside of small diameter quartz tubes. The idea was that they were lighter and did not require extensive roof modifications and that because of the round profile, as long as the roof is reflective, they are not effected by the path of the sun. The problem is that getting a very uniform coating inside these cylinders is extremely difficult. These units took a very long time to manufacture and a very high reject rate. I hate the idea that all government funding of solar projects takes a big hit because of the one concept, which is very different from any of the more widespread techniques.
