My wife and I moved to California in December — we registered Green party, and will vote for Jill Stein in the June 5th presidential primary. I’ve dealt with a small bank for the past 12 years (great personal service), and recently moved. I found another small bank at my new location also with superlative service (First Northern Bank in the Sacramento – Davis area).
My wife and I try not to deal with the corporate feudal overlords either – we were fortunate enough to move to a location which offered a choice of internet providers (we chose Wave Broadband and are 100% happy with them). We also found a small mortgage company that financed our new home (they sold the loan to a national bank, but at least it wasn’t B of A). And, we shop at a small supermarket chain (Raley’s) that pays its employees decent wages.
We stay away from big box stores, chain food and coffee places (including Starbuck’s – check Naomi Klein’s No Logo book), and any business that has a national corporate presence.
