If he had a broken nose the black eyes came from that. I’ve broken my nose twice and I always got two black eyes. I broke horses for a living and sometimes you get bucked off. I didn’t get hit in the eye either time. My nose bled profusely for quite a while, too. But [...]

watching the news. right now the colorado house is in recess as republicans stall until midnight to keep civil union vote from coming up before the legislative session ends. lots of other bills are going to die because of this. if it comes up it will pass due to a couple of female republican reps who will vote to pass it. democrats tried to seize control of the house. don’t know how but it didn’t work. repubs are shocked that dems woult try to force a vote.

From COLORADO: Joining five other House Democrats, Republican Rep. B.J. Nikkel of Loveland voted in favor of Colorado’s civil unions bill, effectively passing the bill on a 6-5 vote late Thursday night.
The bill now faces votes in the House Finance and Appropriations committees before it makes it to the House floor.

apishapa commented on the blog post Colorado tax dollars at work: two Senators deliver fundie eruptions against civil union bill
I’m proud of how the Senate handled the Civil Unions bill. They let the blowhards blow, then passed it. I’m more concerned with “Colorado Memorial 3″. “This deceptively named memorial asks the United States Congress to enact the “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act of 2011” and asks the President of the U.S. to extend a comprehensive religious conscience exemption from the HHS requirement to cover birth control. If passed, it would put the Colorado Legislature on record as opposing health insurance coverage of contraception.” It won’t pass the Senate, but it concerns me.

I haven’t really been following SB-2 but I’m pretty sure I received an email from One COlorado yesterday saying it passed. I’m pretty pround of our state, even though it probably won’t get through the house. We’ve come a long way

SB-2 passed the Colorado Senate so all of our legislators aren’t so bad. For a relatively conservative state, I think Colrado is doing pretty good this year. Yes, we have some nuts (cough doug bruce cough), but we’re getting there.

I used to break and train horses. I’ve had my nose broken twice. You can’t even tell now, but when it happened it bled profusely. My nose was swollen up huge and I had two black eyes by the next day. They took a while to heal. That guy did not have a broken nose. His shirt would have been a mess. And his face would have been pretty bad too. And his eyes would still be a little black and blue even now. Or that icky yellow that comes after a couple of weeks.

I think Israelis might be doing the attacks themselves. No one has been killed as far as I’ve heard. I think surely the Iranians could manage to kill a few people if they went to the trouble to start planting bombs all over the place. The Isrealis are by many accounts are not above posing as CIA agents to arrange a murder or five, so who says they can’t pose as Iranians to justify an invasion? I think they know they’ve been caught killing Iranian scientists and they want to change the focus and stir up outrage against someone else. I also think they are perfectly happy to sacrifice a few civilians to promote the right wing agenda.

apishapa commented on the blog post Santorum questions women in frontline military roles because ‘other types of emotions are involved’ (updated)
Well we knew Santorum wasn’t really worried about the womens’s emotions or concerns didn’t we? I mean who really thought he was worried about the girls being scared? Seems to me like the “emotion” as far as men go in this issue is the insatiable desire to rape their female comrades in arms. I would never allow my daughter to join any of the military services because of the danger she would be in from her own fellow soldiers and she is able to hold her own against 3 brothers.
I think Santorum just doesn’t think these men should be faced with such temptation. Men like him spend a lot of time worrying about the straight men in the military being raped by gays, but never acknowledge that those same straight men have a less than stellar history. And yes I do know that straight men are more likely to harm gays than the other way around. and not all straight soldiers are like that (my son is joining the army and he has very strong convictions concerning these issues), but enough are or women wouldn’t be in such danger in the armed services.

apishapa commented on the blog post Ron Klain Tries to Boost Geithner on Payroll Tax Deal
Making work pay may not have been as much to each household it affected, but it affected more workers. 50 million of us are public workers who ge no benefit at all from the payroll tax cut.
In fact many of us (like me) worked private sector lng enough to qualify for Social Security retirement benefits, but now we do nt get the tax cut, we just get to worry about tha pension being taken away because of the cuts. We all know that this is the reason the payroll tax cut is acceptable. It is a way to later claim it is draining the treasury.

apishapa commented on the blog post Notion of Greek Democracy Deeply Shocking to Elite Failures
I really believe the American people should have a say in any decision to dismantle our paid for entitlement programs. Medicare, Social Seciurity and Medicaid belong to us. We paid for them and we are entitled to them. Any decision to take them away must be ours.
I applaude the Greek Prime Minister. I wish our President woud make the same call. We all know that if Americans got to choose between Social Security and bankers, bankers would not come out so well.
I don’t see any reason why Americans can’t have a national referendum. Probably because I have a big list of things that those dipshits want to keep away from “voters”, I would like to get a vote on. I’d start with impeaching a bunch of Supremers.

apishapa commented on the diary post Matt Stoller figures out how to save the Democratic Party and push Obama off the ticket by metamars.
Why do you think the 2010 turnout was “pathetic”? Because everyone was happy with Obama and his filibuster proof congress? Yes he had enough Democrats in the Senate in 2009 to pass whatever he wanted, but then he whined about needing even more. 60 Senators wasn’t enough, because he would not demand the blue dogs [...]

What I meant when I said I don’t believe most will carry through with that threat is that it seems to have been the pattern. The reason Tea Party is successful is because they will punish those who don’t represent what they believe to be their interests. Even if they are confused about what is [...]

“1) credibly politically threaten to vote for his Republican challenger. I didn’t “credibly threaten”. I voted for [...]

We had an earthquake in Colorado last night (5.6), too. I didn’t feel it in Pueblo (I was asleep), but my daughter in La Junta did. It shook her house a little. It was by Trinidad. They say it is the biggest earthquake in Colorado in at least 40 years.

apishapa commented on the blog post Republicans Vow Filibuster of Reid Debt Limit Plan
I’m so tired of this whole game. One more manufactured crisis. They have been hell bent on destroying any programs that benefit the pooir or midle class for years. They will not decrease military spending, corporate giveaways etc. They will cut any program that is a benefit to the middle class or poor, and give that money to the wealthy.
Since no one in America who is being hurt by this can afford a day off to fight it, because we are supporting our kids and grandkids now, it is stupid for these chickenshits to keep harping about it. We are tired of hearing about how it is necessary. We know it isn’t. I mean destroy the economy and get it over with already.
Hopefully, it is not going to work out as well as they think. Since a bunch of these oldpeople who are being punished now supprt their kids and grandkids on that meager Social Security, taking away Social Secuity will cause more hunger. We are already getting by on less.
Trying to convince average Americans this is necessary is just idiotic. We know it isn’t and we are going to hate every one of those bastards. And we aren’t listening any more. They are all to blame. Every one of them. Can’t seem to get rid of any of them though. If they get voted out, they still won’t leave. They go right back to Washigton, get paid more and keep right on doing their job of destroying this country. These Washington policticians are a disease. They are like MRSA or herpes.
