applepie commented on the diary post Drone Pilots Expose Politicians’ Lies by David Swanson.
I recently talked to a high school senior who was telling me he wanted to drone operator when he joins up (standing right next to him was his military recruiter), and I told him that there were significant moral and ethical issues that he would have to deal with, probably including the consequences of PTSD, [...]

applepie commented on the diary post Reinhart and Rogoff Are Not Being Straight by Dean Baker.
Crooks do well in our economic nightmare, and having ‘economists’ quantify and legitimize that theft as not really being a theft makes all those at the Harvard Club howl a great “Huzzah!” And even with the gnashing of their teeth and the blood rising apoplectic, the ‘economists’ and their bloated backers can still declare in [...]

We all know about a murder of crows, but what does one call a gathering of ex-presidents, and sitting ones? A cabal? A synod? A containment?

applepie commented on the blog post Late Night: So What Data Got Dumped Today?
The Supreme Court gives American corporations license to kill, maim, and pollute:
In a unanimous ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court today dismissed a lawsuit against Shell in Nigeria. The lawsuit was brought by Esther Kiobel against the company for aiding and abetting the Nigerian government who executed her husband and 10 other activists in the Ogoni region of the Niger Delta.
The ruling effectively blocks other lawsuits against foreign multinationals for human rights abuse that have occurred overseas from being brought in U.S. courts
Bhopal? Union Carbide could care less.

applepie commented on the blog post Bill Keller: New York Times Published Bad, Unsourced, Unskeptical Stories In Run Up To Iraq War
So, Bill Keller, has anything changed? Miller might be gone, but the corporate media continues to tow the line of oligarchs and refuses any real journalistic investigation into many crucial issues of the day, and good reporting is still buried int eh back pages. The OpEds could as well be from Mars as far as I ‘m concerned in terms of their relevance or even logical reason. If one wants valid news on issues like US foreign policy, militarism, and environmental/energy concerns they now go to the intl press or net sources like FDL.
The only reason I go to corporate media sites on the net is to point out their continued failure to report on crucial issues from a non-corporate pov, their inherent bias, and their collusion with the worst of the capitalist vampire class.

applepie commented on the diary post Keystone XL Coverup: Department of State Hides Oil Industry Connections by Jcoleman.
As far as I can decode it, the plan seems to be for America to become a raw materials export zone and a raw materials transport zone. That’s what the Pacific Trade Pact is all about, same as Keystone. When you look at other raw material export zones like the Congo, or Indonesia, or the [...]

applepie commented on the blog post KY Sen: Clintons Try to Keep Ashley Judd From Taking on McConnell
The Clintons need McConnell, if for no other reason than to maintain their own legitimacy in the big shell game: Where is the neo-conservative/neo-liberal?
Judd, and others, would just upset all that….she’s just a big party pooper.

applepie commented on the diary post Maryland: Of, By, and For Lockheed Martin by David Swanson.
Thanks for reporting on this important theft by the war profiteers from the American people. Lockheed Martin, Northrup, Raytheon and the other war profiteers are destroying our future in more ways than we can possibly imagine. The lock they have on US politicians makes a mockery of representative democracy, and the peace activists fighting these [...]
