Too bad FDL has devolved so far away from what it once was.
You win econ, enjoy your splendour.

‘Militarization’ (sic) has always been the prime enemy. NCLB etc., high stakes testing, and decimation of union protections and academic freedoms are corollaries of militarism. We educate kids to accept poverty, their class, and to fight unending wars.

    Sinclair Lewis rocks!

Elmer Gantry is one of the finest dissections of American hypocrisy ever written. Main Street is another classic read as well, about mendacity and meaning for women in patriarchies.

It just gets crazier and crazier. BNSF and the oil companies are willing to endanger thousands so they can make a few more bucks.

And a further conundrum: Should we be shipping our weapons home, to give more of them to often incompetent, bloated and racist local police forces?

It may be win-win for the war profiteers, but for the rest of us it’s the same as always when it comes to militarism…lose-lose.

  • But it mirrors precisely what the corporate media and neocons are pushing. The constantly hammering thud and rush to slaughter and war is a key tool of the oil plutocracy.

    We must have war
    We must protect the victimized.
    We must get the oil.
We must sell arms to everyone
We must control the oil to sell it to someone else.
    (repeat)
    Blutoe2 just used different words.

The Yazidhis are an interesting , if obsolete, culture. If they agree to stop stoning to death young naked women to death in public I might see a reason for using US aid to help them.

Boeing, Raytheon and PetroChina, not just ExxonMobil and Chevron, support Obama’s humanitarian bombing too.

  • The attitude of the cops is “Who cares?”, and then they detain the victim.

It is more and more obvious that the US police make up their own laws and don’t follow any written local of Federal laws.

They are the enemy, walking our streets with guns. Clockwork Orange has now become reality.

Perry is just opening up the Guard to corruption and cash payments from the cartels, which makes perfect sense.
The pattern is well in place and thus ignored by nearly everyone. This is the GOP way of conducting business and war.

So interesting that the current trend in SciFi I see now is away from glactic operas and into more of the soul-searching, and gender/envmntl awareness of Ursula LeGuin. As I sit here watching Under The Skin, which so far seema a strange but photgraphically intriguing film, I can’t help but scribble a few lines mentioning: [...]

    Yes, I am.

I’m done here, though. I will keep suggesting an arms embargo and that the real and only enemy is war.

    Have a great weekend.

I’m pretty sure I know my history better than you (but it is all just opinion on event in the end), and while one can make the case that it was a proxy war it is now a civil war, with weapons being pushed in by both sides. Go ahead pick a side (or maybe you already have?) You won’t receive the fallout, or the grief.

In fact, if you live the US you will probably profit from it is n some strange way through markets and investments. That is our history, and the history of the last century. Some people want to maintain it. I want to destroy it.

My point was that the weapons trade is the real crime, not which side is more unpalatable to armchair revolutionaries and conspiratorial theorists in the US.

I state my opinions frankly and stand by them. I also walk my talk. How about you? Have you got your ticket yet to join whatever righteous side you have glued yourself to?

Why is no one talking Arms Embargo for both sides? Hell, it could even be a joint Russian NATO operation,

Why? Because all sides and all their backers want to continue the global weapons trade to the point of constant war with no surprise given to civilian casualties. Russia, the US, and France, Sweden,EU, China and do it. And the corps. They’re all good capitalists, after all.

But, an Arms Embargo is so 20th Century… kind of like the Cold war. Felling sentimental…no worries.

Find and ID the enemy at all costs! Better to have endless mounds of rotting bodies than a clear and effective anti-militarist strategy.

Not odd at all. Speculation is fine, when it is grounded in reality rather than woven into prior speculations, but many here seem to have quite a distorted view of the sociopolitical mechanism. The idea of control, or even containment, is proof in the pudding of colossal extremely efficient forces that do not exist. In reading ‘carefully, i did see far above that one commentator mentioned how it may have been a mistake. That is reasonable, macho men with death weapons and deep rage often make catastrophic errors.

But to suggest that this is some ‘false flag’ or that one side is less bloodthirsty than the other in what amounts to a civil war, or even worse to quote state-run media sources like RT or Tass or other more obscure conspiratorialists is doing pretty much the same thing as the Christian nutjobs and Fox disinfo does.

Is that the ‘truth’ you want?

The truth is there are a lot of dead people, who were on their home to families, or to work to rid the world of a deadly plague that is being corralled.

Conspiratorialists promote a damaged view of the world that reflects an inner chaos, maybe something even worse, and many of them have survived in the past off of the gullible, by selling them DVDs. Maybe they use bitcoins now, I don’t really know. Maybe they just try and take over other websites with more ‘hits’ than their own clumsy html mark-up site.

I suppose you are right in ones sense, it is inevitable when one attempts to find the ‘truth’ that trolls appear spreading disinfo. Confusion seems quite the self-replicating memem these days.

Yes, perhaps I am too harsh. Just don’t ignore the resultant construct that ‘war’, or good vs. evil, and militarism pretends to be the truth, in a conspiracy, for it’s own end…more war, death and suffering … to find the ‘truth.’

Checking in to FDL these days makes me feel a bit depressed. There is little thoughtful interchange, yet the promotion of conspiracies that support the writers own traumatized view of the world abounds.

298 people are dead, and many of them were working tirelessly to prevent and control the transmission of HIV/AIDS.

The problem here is not which side did what. It’s the same problem as everywhere else. There are too many death weapons in too many idiots hands.

Fuck your conspiracies. They are just a bunch of BS designed to sell poorly produced DVDs and get people to buy into even more weapons and militarization of thought patterns.
