Apparently, Zimmerman’s father is a retired judge. We also know that it was the DA who called off the police when they laid out the possibility of a murder rap. Elder Zimmerman – DA: Buddies in the judicial system, perhaps?

Thank you. You point out the circumstances that without question, make Zimmerman undeniably culpable for the murder of an innocent, blameless victim.

My point is that even if Zimmerman had injuries, it is not proof that Trayvon is guilty of anything. Those injuries, if indeed sustained, are evidence of self-defense (since we know that Zimmerman was the perpetrator/initiator). By citing the absence of injuries in the footage as the ‘ah ha!’ we are giving too much credence [...]

I agree with and appreciate this post but I think there’s a larger point to make. Even if George Zimmerman had all the serious injuries his advocates make claim to, it proves nothing except perhaps that Trayvon Martin was fighting back for his life with the strength begotten by the will to survive. The nature [...]

I suppose Obama can rightfully claim that he’s changed the way things work in Washington. With his ‘super Congress’ he’s narrowed down representation and governing to a handful of the despised, selected by the two who are most responsible for the gridlock and crisis we’re in. Go team!
This latest fiasco is reminiscent of the health insurance reform process that exposed all the cowardice and capitulations of the Democrats – with Obama at the helm – and gave the Tea Party the opening to prevail.
We probably should have protested more forcefully when Obama protected his role model and moral mentor, Joe Lieberman, with leadership posts in the party he betrayed.

atonemusic commented on the diary post WashPost: Obama to Propose Social Security, Medicare Cuts to Buy Boehner’s Vote on Taxes by Scarecrow.
Heard NPR use the word ‘surrender’ this morning when reporting on O’s promise to Boehner to take tax rate hikes off the table. Social Security and Medicare, dig in. I am willing to sign a pledge (ala Norquist) to not vote for Obama if he surrenders on cuts to Social Security and Medicare. (No contributions [...]

I tend to agree. The other thing that hit me was how much the outlines of the flames resembled an Arabian character rendering, like the al jazeera logo just above on the home page. Not that there’s anything wrong with that in my opinion, but it could bring undue criticism and thus, dismiss content.
I’m going with the magnifying glass.

If you’re going to do a thorough analysis to fit all the pieces together, I would start with Obama’s decision to appoint Janet Napolitano as Sec. of Homeland Security — a position that hundreds would have qualified for, and one that left Arizona’s governorship in the hands of her successor, Jan Brewer. And the final piece must be gun violence and the absence of civilized laws regarding gun control that allowed a mentally disturbed man to possess a semi-automatic weapon.

“….The Republicans got what they wanted…”
Correction: The R’s got MORE than they wanted. From what I’ve read, they are celebrating their gifts early this holiday season. The estate tax rate was never expected to be as generous as what was given them.

….and maybe we could throw our support their way. At least then we’d have some bargaining power in the political game, much like the Tea Partiers.

Let’s see if I have this right:
Out of the gate, the R’s let it be known that they won’t approve an extension of the unemployment benefits unless they get their share of the tax cuts (for the wealthiest).
Obama spends weeks negotiating and finally claims a deal is reached – a viable compromise: The R’s get all their tax cuts and unemployment benefits will be extended.
I’m begging someone to tell me I’m wrong.
