Thumbnail My Great Aunt Eileen used to chase ambulances.  And no, not in the skeezy lawyer sense.  Literally, if she happened to see an ambulance or fire truck – lights flashing, siren wailing – she’d maneuver in traffic to try and follow them, just to see what was happening. She also got a little too tipsy [...]

I’m only a step or two away from homelessness my self – thank goodness for an amazing family.

I know many OWS folks are going out of their way to help the homeless that they’re meeting – and I imagine it wasn’t something most were prepared to do. In fact, I’ve been thrilled to hear that OWS is including the homeless in so many instances, already. It’s a statement to the quality of [...]

Excellent post and insights. I regret that I only found Noam a few years ago. If I’d found his work while I was in college…

    Recommended heartily, Mr. Seaton.

Thank you for the kind words, and even moreso for the work you’re doing with OWS.

    All excellent points.

I apologize if it came off as generalizing all homeless as substance abusers or the mentally ill. And I did completely miss the youth issue.

It’s a tragedy that FDR’s ‘Second Bill of Rights,’ that included that right to housing, never made it to fruition.

Glad I could help. I thought I was fairly well versed in the MJ Legalization/Drug War department, but like I said, I didn’t find this until fairly recently.

    Educate. Legalize. Regulate.

It would be nice to hear a statement by the administration on Marijuana Legalization that didn’t come from the ONDCP. I may have been a little late to the party, but I didn’t find out until not too long ago, that the Drug Czar/ONDCP is required by its Congressional charter to oppose all attempts to [...]

Everybody’s hurting these days. I was volunteering at a local food bank run by a local church, but funds ran dry, so that had to be shut down.

But even donating some money/canned goods/clothing to a local Food Bank or shelter makes a difference.

Thumbnail With the burgeoning of the Occupy movement, many cities are being forced to at least acknowledge if not deal with what continues to be a repugnant mark of failure of this country – homelessness. As Occupiers camp out in various city centers, many homeless are gravitating towards the sites, some hoping for food, some for heat [...]

Thank you, Mr. Partridge. I honestly hadn’t considered the derogatory nature of the phrase – to say nothing of the practical implications of using one phrase over another.

    Marriage Equality, henceforth.

I get the feeling that there’s a lot of support for #OWS, but that a lot of people aren’t exactly the sit-in type of folks. How about a Facebook Page/Twitter thing for people to sign up to bring prepared cold/hot meals (macaroni/casseroles,etc.,) to the various OWS sites? They may not want to ‘sit-in’ but maybe [...]

I hope you don’t have “Fuckery” copyrighted. That’s a new one on me – and I have always prided myself on the use/variety of expletives, and hope to use it regularly.

    Again, thanks for the welcome.

Thumbnail #OWS While both Democrats, and a few Republicans are trying to frame #OWS as understandable “frustration,” Matt Taibbi correctly points out in his newest post , that a separate rule book seems to exist for Wall Street, resulting not in ‘frustration,’ but a just plea for a level field of play and some measure of parity and justice, by [...]

RJ Eskow (blogs for HuffPo a lot) has a great breakdown of MERS -

Short answer is it’s funded and owned by BofA, Wells Fargo, HSBC and a host of others to ‘streamline’ title transfers.
