I love when people talk about restoring tax levels at some future date as though it were just a given and will happen with no fanfare or debate.
You know, like when the Bush tax cuts expired…
oh, wait…
Tax cuts are far easier to sell than tax hikes, and Obama himself is currently out peddling any return to the prior payroll tax rate as just that, a tax hike on the middle class. Keeping in mind that the current payroll tax is inadequate and the tax is regressive, does anyone really think Obama will leap at the chance to do the very thing he is accusing the Republicans of attempting? The Democrats have fully embraced the “tax cuts fix everything” mantra of the GOP and, intentionally or not, it will come back to bite them…or us.
I’m going with us.
