Baltimoron commented on the blog post NATO 3 Came to Chicago to Commit ‘Terrorist Acts of Violence,’ CPD, FBI & Secret Service Claim
Hey Kevin,
Great piece once again. You forgot the link for ‘here’ in the last sentence.
It’s pretty weird that the police chiefs name is McCarthy. I guess things haven’t really changed much.

update:
The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that the three were arrested after undercover police officers had been embedded with the protesters for weeks.
Prosecutors alleged in court this afternoon that the three men had travelled to Chicago to commit acts of domestic terrorism during the NATO Summit.
However the Sun Times says that their defence attorney, Michael Deutsch, told reporters the case was a Chicago Police set-up… entrapment to the highest degree.
Deutsch said three undercover police nicknamed Nadia, Mo and Gloves befriended his clients on May 1.
Deutsch said two of the people arrested in the operation were actually undercover Chicago cops.
The undercover officers egged on the protesters, Deutsch said.
From our information the so-called incendiary devices and the plans to attack police stations … thats all coming from the minds of the police informants and not coming from our clients, who are non-violent protesters, he said.

Apparently this whole thing was an entrapment sting by the cops.
From the updated Guardian story:
In court on Saturday, prosecutors said the trio had planned to attack targets including President Barack Obamas campaign HQ and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuels home in a plot coinciding with the Nato summit being staged in the city.
But defence attorneys countered that the petrol bombs had been brought by undercover officers, and that their clients were victims of a police entrapment.

I found that part interesting as well. It seems though that they just took that paragraph almost word for word from the source article they linked to.

Hey Kevin,
Did you see this latest WL release?
http://wikileaks.org/gifiles/docs/1497330_-alpha-occupy-wall-street-dhs-analysis-.html
I’ve been waiting for some WL stuff about occupy and I’ll bet there will be more soon. I read the whole PDF and it’s not all that revealing but it has some interesting wording at times. It mentions a lot of DHS thinking about Anonymous and acts of violence.

Great article Kevin. So many great points.
On a similar note, I just saw Manning’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for February 23rd. Will you be going back to Ft. Meade to report on this?

Baltimoron commented on the blog post Riot Police Converge at Occupy DC: Inspection Develops into Eviction
Just saw this from the AP:
Associated Press= WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Park Police say an officer has been struck with a brick in the face as officers in riot gear and on horseback cleared protesters from one of the last remaining Occupy sites.
Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser says the officer was taken to a hospital Saturday evening for treatment of injuries to his face.
Protesters have clashed with police as officers pushed them out of the last section of McPherson Square, a park under federal jurisdiction near the White House.
By Saturday afternoon, seven were arrested. Schlosser said more may have been arrested in the most recent scuffle.
Police have been clearing away tents they said were banned under park rules. Officers used barricades to cordon off sections of the park and checked tents for camping gear.
It would be nice to know what really happened.

“Associated Press= RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say a computer network outage left them unable for several hours to perform such routine tasks as running fingerprints, conducting background checks and registering sex offenders.
Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the system outage began about 1:30 p.m. and last until around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The outage temporarily crippled the Virginia Criminal Information Network, which alerts police if a person pulled over is wanted by police or is in a stolen vehicle. It also is used to complete background checks required for buying firearms, so gun purchases were temporarily halted as well. The network averages more than 1 million transactions per day.
It was the latest in a rash of sporadic outages to hit a state computer system.
Authorities declined immediate comment on what caused the outage. ”
