Sounds like perfect Basset contentment to me….
Chiarascuro Basset!

That’s an exceptionally cute picture of Wembley. He’s missing his trademark glower. And Fenway’s got the supermodel thing going again.
I’ve sent you pics of my Maggie to post; have you not gotten them, or is this a boys-only club? If so, I’m planning to sue.

He sure is cute! Basset puppies are so adorable. We’ve never had one, as we’ve always had rescues, and aren’t home enough to properly train a puppy. Plus we like the idea of giving them a home (a vet asked me once if we “run the home for wayward bassets,” I said yes). We got Maggie right before the shelter she was at was going to have to put her down (they had to make room for a bunch of dogs that had been seized in a cruelty case and had to be kept alive as evidence). She seems to be doing fine, so we’re not rushing to get another one right now.

And I’m sorry to hear about Sam. We lost Maui a few months before the Boggs lost Satchmo, and when I heard about Satchmo I promptly burst into tears. Part of that was because I had come to feel I knew Satchmo through the blog, but I think it was also my grieving process over Maui (who was one of the sweetest most loving bassets ever). Molokai was a real clown who did all kinds of silly things, and we miss all of that. I hope reading about him wasn’t too painful with your recent loss. I hope they’re all waiting for us at the Bridge.

Thank you so much for honoring our Molokai.

Molokai. We also had a Kona and Maui. When we got a female, my husband wanted to name her Pele, but I thought that would be tempting fate (Pele is the volcano goddess). My vote was for Lanai, but (perhaps fortunately) we got an owner surrender whose name we knew was Maggie, so we just left that alone. (The previous ones had been strays whose original names were unknown.) Maggie’s the only one we have left now (we’ve never had more than 2 at a time).

Hi Tbogg, I just sent you 2 pix: a clean one and a dirty one. Take your pick. And thank you.

Good to see the Bogg boys. We just lost one of our bassets, and it totally sucks. Like Satchmo, he’d had a good long life and it was time, but it still sucks.

“Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! One of our chief weapons is surprise!”
Sorry, Monty Python flashback.
So Fenway the supermodel is doing the histrionic supermodel thing and refusing to please his public unless the conditions are exactly to his liking. Figures. Wembley is lovely, however (in his absurd Basset way that is).

A basset slept today. And in other news, the sun rose this morning, and it’s raining in the Pacific NW.
Wembley is very cute in this pose. Both of mine are snoozing right now also.

My aren’t we cranky! Do you want to talk about it?
The dogs appear much more mellow…except for Wembley’s perpetual scowl…

We are having very odd weather for the Pacific NW: clear and cold. Usually it’s cool and rainy. My bassets don’t care in the least, they still want to walk…much more than I have time for. As for Wembley, I vividly remember Mrs. Tbogg’s snow adventures in the land of his birth.
Merry Christmas, oops, Happy Holidays (have to piss off Faux News after all) from our bassets to yours.

Molokai likes to drag his bed around too, though I’ve never known him to bark at it. Must be a basset thing…they sure are weird.
Glad to hear about Wembley, hope they can figure out what he’s allergic to so he never gets it again.

Maggie and Molokai fling their healing drool Wembley’s way. As for basset health, my understanding is that they’re generally not more vulnerable than other breeds. We’ve had 4: the first, Kona, died prematurely from spinal damage that I think was due to his having starved as a stray before we got him; the second, Maui, was the sweetest dog ever but was never very healthy, had repeated GI problems and was very expensive and also died young. Our current 2, on the other hand, are aging and still going strong. Molokai has had a heart murmur for years, takes meds and is fine. Maggie was born with a defective front food and is on pain meds for that, but otherwise is totally healthy. You just never know. Hugs to Wembley.

Avoid the anticonvulsants if you can. They’re nasty drugs with a lot of side effects. They’re used fairly frequently in psychiatry (my field), but I’ve never prescribed any of them, and have taken several of my (human) patients that came to me on them off of them because of the side effects. I hope you can manage this with less debilitating drugs.
The boner part is interesting, though probably uncomfortable for poor Wembley. Priapism is not any fun at all.

Sorry, those of us who know bassets know that they care much, much more about food than about politics. espierce has it right. We have been victimized many times by our bassets’ beguiling looks. They know just how to cock their heads and lower their ears for maximum effect. You too will be assimilated…resistance is futile.
