I needed to see a Basset after reading about Tunch.

I just came over from Balloon Juice. I knew Tom would be on this. Some of you may remember him posting a picture of my basset Molokai when he died. I cried over Satchmo, & now am so sad thinking of Tunch. I immediately thought of Kevin Drum and Inkblot too. One of my cats is sitting on my lap, & I’ve been petting him. I hope John is doing the same with Lily & Rosie.

Uncertainty, I recognized the Peanuts cartoon right away. (I’m a psychologist, so it always reminded me of a Rorschach joke.) And I too can see the Marat painting.

I assume Fenway and Wembley are enjoying their Mittenfreude…were they contributors to Dogs Against Romney? (Facebook page, for the uninitiated.)

Glad to see heydave and his haikus back.

That picture is adorable even by basset standards. Makes me want to reach out and rub that neck…those ears…mmmm….

Balloon Juice raises money for animal rescue this way. Tunch needs some competition.

No such thing as TMI where the Bassets are concerned….

Seeing this is bittersweet for me, as we just lost our remaining Basset Maggie, only a few months after losing Molokai. They always leave us too soon….

“Warning! Don’t trip over the watch dog!”

I assume Wembley is exhausted from the big party at the Bogg house following the SC decision on Obamacare. Now, since we know Fenway is the emo one, he’s probably holed up somewhere weeping tears of joy for all the doggies that now can go to their vets with no problems…or maybe that’s tears of anguish.

Go read Kevin Drum’s blog. Plenty of catblogging there. Check out his pix from his recent trip to godless Europe.

See my comment above about our basset on steroids (wrote it before I saw yours).

As others have noted, there is such a thing as pet insurance. We got some for Maui the basset who ate EVERYTHING and was in the hospital for GI problems rather frequently as a result. Of course, as soon as we got it he mended his ways and never had those problems again.

Maggie, our last basset, has an abdominal tumor and is on steroids. They’ve given us a few more months with her, which has been great, but I’m afraid we’re near the end. We’ve made the hard decision not to get any more dogs at this point, because our current lifestyle is very dog-unfriendly (work long hours and gone in the evening and on weekends a lot). So we are about to become a cat-only household. It’s the right decision, but transitions are hard….

Now that is truly a fine idea. Tbogg and Cole, we’re waiting.

Oh, and nice to see heydave and his haikus are back.

That’s an exceptionally cute picture of Wembley. He’s missing his trademark glower. And Fenway’s got the supermodel thing going again.

I’ve sent you pics of my Maggie to post; have you not gotten them, or is this a boys-only club? If so, I’m planning to sue.

He sure is cute! Basset puppies are so adorable. We’ve never had one, as we’ve always had rescues, and aren’t home enough to properly train a puppy. Plus we like the idea of giving them a home (a vet asked me once if we “run the home for wayward bassets,” I said yes). We got Maggie right before the shelter she was at was going to have to put her down (they had to make room for a bunch of dogs that had been seized in a cruelty case and had to be kept alive as evidence). She seems to be doing fine, so we’re not rushing to get another one right now.

And I’m sorry to hear about Sam. We lost Maui a few months before the Boggs lost Satchmo, and when I heard about Satchmo I promptly burst into tears. Part of that was because I had come to feel I knew Satchmo through the blog, but I think it was also my grieving process over Maui (who was one of the sweetest most loving bassets ever). Molokai was a real clown who did all kinds of silly things, and we miss all of that. I hope reading about him wasn’t too painful with your recent loss. I hope they’re all waiting for us at the Bridge.
