If this shut down goes on for more than a week, Dayton should order the prisons closed. There’s no money to pay for them, right?
The republicans will be back to the negotiating table so fast you’ll only feel the wind of their passage.

I suspect that Pima county could get Santa Cruz county to go along. We’d be even bigger then! Baja Arizona. I’m voting for it.

There isn’t a judge or public defender in Southern Arizona who has not worked with Judge John Roll. It is very correct of all of them to recuse themselves.

In AZ, smoking pot is more of a rightwing libertarian kind of activity. The militia loonies finance themselves with pot and meth.

There were security cameras at the shopping center. The sheriff has video of someone who arrived with the shooter. A white man in his 50s. He left at some point, before during or after the shooting. Sheriff knows, we do not. They know what he looks like, but not who he is.
My husband, driving home from work this evening, noted that there were police checkpoints on I-10, although he did not see anyone being stopped.

Giffords was very strong for border security — she’s a border congresswoman. She voted for the DREAM act. She represents her constituency, all of us.

Boehner makes a surprisingly strong statement condemning the assassination attempt. (I continue to hope that it’s an attempt only.)

I’m watching KOLD-TV. A University Medical Center spokesman just phoned in to tell them that Giffords is in surgery, in critical condition, but still alive.

No confirmation of deaths yet. But it doesn’t look good.

beth meacham commented on the blog post TSA’s Legal Justification for Gate Grope
One point no one has been mentioning: not all airports have the scanners. If you go through one of them, and are carrying metal in your body (artificial joints, rods, screws, etc.), you will be subjected to the punitive “enhanced pat down”. There is no choice. You’re going to be groped, even if you’re willing to be pornoscanned.

beth meacham commented on the blog post Gropey Joe: Lieberman “Comes Down on the Side of Pat-Downs” before TSA Hearing (VIDEO)
A serious question for the committee to ask TSA:
What steps is the TSA taking to assure that the people who are viewing naked pictures of children, and handling the genital areas of children, are not sex offenders or pedophiles?

Wait. What? The mortgage holder successfully forecloses on a borrower, has them evicted from the property and takes possession. Game over.
They then give the property back to the previous owner. With no new lien. Why is that anything but a gift? How can they then pretend to have a mortgage interest in the property?

So much for that pesky “rule of law”.
I can easily see some future novelist writing an updated Count of Monte Cristo about one of the indefinitely detained at Gitmo.
