bilejones commented on the blog post Romney Wants Everyone to Simply Trust That He Paid at Least 13% in Taxes Every Year
Last time I looked, Romney has never had any vote on the tax system of the US. Unlike Obama.

bilejones commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Jonathan Caulkins, Mark Kleiman, and Angela Hawken, Marijuana Legalization: What Everyone Needs To Know
Now that the Olympics are over and we’ve seen Phelps and Bolt’s performances I assume we’ll see an add campaign featuring them stressing the dangers of marijuana:
1. There’s a danger you may be the fastest man on earth.
2. There’s a danger you may be the faster man in the water. -
bilejones commented on the blog post Senate Democratic Tax Plan Increases Revenue By $28 Billion in 2013
It would cost the country $300 billion in revenue to extend all the Bush tax cuts.
It may come as a shock, but the Federal Government is not “the country”.
Overall, “the country” remains unaffected.

bilejones commented on the blog post Congress Reacts to Supreme Court Upholding Affordable Care Act
As always, Arthur Silber gets it right:
“First, and this merits strong emphasis, the “health care reform” legislation will fatally undercut all the goals set forth by Democrats and progressives themselves. To restate the point: if the Democrats and progressives are sincere and genuinely committed to what they say their goals are, they should be working day and night to defeat this abomination. That most of them are doing the opposite is deeply revealing. And they are doing the opposite for the most transparent and pathetic of reasons: they are desperate for something they can call a “win” as an alleged demonstration of perceived political power.”"

So we’re up to what? Thirty some members of the Murdoch crime family scooped up in the UK?
Imagine the haul if the US had a functioning justice system.

bilejones commented on the blog post Why Most Wars Are ‘Humanitarian Interventions’
Bollocks.
1. Germany declared war on the US.
2. The Soviets defeated Germany, some 85-90% of German divisions were destroyed by the Red Army and that would have happened regardless of American farting around in the West.Went to a government school, did you?

bilejones commented on the blog post Iran’s Threats to Close Strait of Hormuz Would Have Major Economic Implications
Well, the pipeline would get built, the tar sands guys would make out like bandits. Another few billion would be flushed towards the politically connected in the name of green energy. More corn would be diverted to ethanol. Ag prices would rise: combination of increased production cost plus diversion. Food riots ensue.
Winners? Big oil, Big Agra, police State.
So no surprises there, then. -

“You’d think someone of his religious/ethnic heritage would be especially sensitive about government oppression ”
Made me laugh.
People of “his religious/ethnic heritage” are such a beacon of liberalism and tolerance in the Pariah State, Israel.

The Idea that a failure to raise the debt ceiling would destroy the economy is pure drivel. Might do some much needed harm to the political filth in DC but the productive sector would do just fine,

I’ve been dinging some right wing blogs with the question “what will your position be when the food riots start in the US?”
The usual response is: That could never happen here.
I fear they may be right.
